In this video I re-work an image from my last film to try and improve on my previous versions. I still can't decide which I prefer and I now have too many choices. Does anyone else have this trouble?

Best wishes for a quick recovery!! I personally like the third processing example. They all look nice, but that last one is my favorite.

I agree this is an excellent video of how you go about doing your processes. I really enjoy watching your video's, and after watching the video. I try and take that inspiration you presented to me and go out and about looking for subjects. Thank you for all your time and efforts in creating these video's.

Also, I agree that the final edit is the nicest. I agree that the first version was a little too blue and not enough contrast between the green and the orange.

Hello Simon All three versions of this looks good and it is a matter of taste which one is the favorite. Know this problem very well. You process an image and think it is well done and a days late you see ist again and think "oh my god". Then you start processing again :-). Best wishes for recovering. Grt Ernesto

Call me crazy, and you wouldnt be the first, but I liked the raw version. I just looked again before finishing the comment. Yeah, the raw state is beautiful. Nothing wrong with the edits, but to my taste, the raw version is where its at. Well done!

They are all nice, but the last one for me. I actually prefer the original to the KZfaq version too, as the KZfaq version is a bit blue

Thanks for another great video Simon. To me, it is much easier to pick the least excellent version than the most. Version 1 gets last place. I can go either way on the other two. If you get stressed editing, you hide it quite well. I know I get that way often at the computer slogging through LR and PS. Get well soon.

G’day Simon, glad to hear that you are on the mend and be out taking photos again soon. I prefer the last version over the youtube version as I think the top right was too blue. In the colour mixer panel, I prefer to use the point colour as you can be more selective in the colour you choose to edit, use the visualize range so that you can see exactly what will be affected and have the hue,saturation and luminance sliders all together. I will have to study your photoshop sharpening video as that seems a lot more acurate way to sharpen. Excellent video by the way. Cheers, Merv

Good to hear you have your health issues are improving - hope you get fully up-to-speed soon. Great to see how you do the edits to an image; and how, like the rest of us, you are often looking afresh at an edit to see if their is a more preferred version. My preference is 100% for the later version, although I'd still be chuffed with the original RAW version or the older edits.

Very good processing. I liked the way it was processed in this video best. The only thing was I did not like much that blue tone to the fog on the right side (background), but it is a personal choice of course. You are the artist and it was your choice. Otherwise, very nice!

I try to do as little processing as possible. That way madness lies and I think your title sums it up. I wouldn't know where to start with Lightroom/Photoshop so the free software I use is perfect for me and my skill level. Having said all that the quality of your final images clearly justifies a little professional finessing to get the very best out of your magnificent shots. Couldn't choose between today's images. The differences are too subtle.

Great video Simon! IMHO I like the edit you did in this video best. The You Tube version has a bit too much blue in the upper right, and process version 1 needed a bit more contrast. Thanks for the lessons on gradients! Very helpful

They are all great when looked at individually, but when they are side by side I think the last edit is the most. It's the most natural whilst still being dramatic.

Atmosphere and mood sure are open to interpretation. Even back in the old film days, we could take numerous exposures .. with any number of 'color-correction' filters over the lens and call the results 'creative interpretation' .. just as we do these days with PS. Long live 'artistic initiative' !

I'm not sure about the darkening of the bark on the middle tree that's caused by the radial filter. The bark is darker at the top of the tree than at the bottom. In theory, it should be the opposite way around. Overall, I like 'today's edit' most

What looks good on a computer screen may not be the best for print output., and that is what I shoot for in the final results. i only print in rag mat paper which may cost on depth, nevertheless, the results overall are what I desire. It appears to me that these images would have to be brighter to record the detail separations for print output. Can you comment?
@SimonBoothPhotography
@SimonBoothPhotography 5 ай бұрын
Hi Anthony I don’t print at home, as although id love to. I just don’t have the space. However, I would normally adjust the brightness prior to sending to an external printer. I have those print profiles stored on my system.

I wouldn't have touched the original Simon. sometimes we're all guilty of thinking we must do something to a raw file. but especially with that MF sensor often they're good enough straight out of the camera 🙂
