I admittedly came in a bit naive surrounding the topic of Quake Live server vulnerabilities. I was also quite unaware of the history of malicious attackers in the space who seem hellbent on disrupting server integrity. Overall, a lot of lessons were learned. I'm proud of what we were able to achieve in such a short amount of time, and I consider Project Velocity to be one of the finest chapters of my work in the esports space to date. From the reskinned maps, the marketing content, data tooling, music video, and so much more. It was a dream come true to work with some of the folks I looked up to growing up before I was able to formally enter the esports industry. That being said, we will be closely watching the Quake franchise in the event that Quake 6 is on the horizon and is conducive to community ran events. Thank you all for the support. LONG. LIVE. QUAKE.

Appreciate sharing your point of view Cody ! I honestly wasnt aware of servers problems untill Ins told me that. kinda never was a problem when I was active in QL but as I said it was legit 12 years ago last time I played this game. Av3k

Such a shame one psychotic individual can ruin such an amazing project that a lot of people would have enjoyed a lot.

sad news :/ I think it is possible to get ddos protected servers, but the cost is probably multpile times higher compared to standard servers without protection.

One of the biggest issues with CS being DDOSed was the IPs being leaked by teams, betting sites, and casters. I think in QL the servers can be attacked in some way to leak the IP, but I also have a suspicion this isn’t the whole story. I like playing quite literally every ID DM game except QC. QC runs poorly, looks like shit, there’s no demos, the way ping is averaged is somehow worse, the bots are super annoying in teams, etc. I do enjoy watching QC because of the active players, and I’ve watched nearly every tournament, but the idea that someone like me, or the QW players, or CTF players in Q2 or QL are going to go to QC seems like a pipe dream. They’d basically need to revert the engine and make a different game for me to want to play it regularly over QL or any of the other Quake-derived games. I’ve had it since very early testing and suggested feedback the whole time. Never felt the game change into something I enjoyed more than ~3 games a month.

@@EndpointQuake Truly. I think that this was mostly caused by teams, players, and others who had the IPs, more than it was caused by hacks/attacks that led the servers to leak, especially with private/unlisted servers. I would anticipate that this same thing happened on PV.

My issue with Quake champions are the champions, the small, medium and large sizes, their stacks and speed relative to their class. That stuff triggers me because it feels like it doesnt belong in quake to me and the abilities just feel like gimmicks for people who cant play quake. That being said I also havnt touched quake champions in years.

How about quake 3 with cpma mod? Does it have the same issue? ioquake3?

Do you guys think Quake 6 is really comming or all those informations are rumours ? 😉

There was some info on a Quake game that would be superficially like Quake 1 with a female protagonist but I think that was just something someone said offhand that went way out of proportion and was reported as like, active, relatively late development. It would be cool if there was another slipgate-travelling Quake campaign though, I might be interested in playing that even if the MP isn't too good. It's almost not that important if Quake 6 is being made, the actual featureset of the game is insanely important. If Quake 6 comes out with missing modes, no player-owned servers, no custom maps, no demos, graphics that can't be lowered/raised to insane degrees, inconsistent player physics, bad engine, bad mouse input(really feels bad in QC), it almost doesn't matter if it does release.

ql player here. every time i played qc i griendd hard to about 100k frags 5 or times, but it was TOTALLY FORCED. and the experience all around so was terrible from performance, to netcode(yes even when everything ran perfectly i still hated the gameplay ), to the general game design, to the lies from tim wilits and id bethesda etc....all the political correct bs they support.. the uncompetitive nature of it with uneven stacks, different movement playstyles etc just ruined what i loved about quake. made it so cheesey that I had to force it . I would play that far because i thought i 'loved' quake, but what they turned it into i didnt like. It literally took away the pleasure of killing someone in game for me and I couldn't stand getting frags myself much less getting fragged on, felt so cheap. that's why i don't enjoy any qc hl videos, people will be like 'sick athena tricks', and you literally have someone who is allowed to use different movement speeds and bs acting like hes being 'cool' because hes allowed advantages over someone who doesn't ..the cheesiest shite ever lol. they had wallhack for goodness sake guys....i mean come ON. Anything that involved any advantage the game game me took the pleasure away. it didnt feel like an achomplishment to me popping any ability/sideability in a trappy way, it was just this cheesey shite letting me getan advantage on someone I did NOT deserve. .... So i played 4 out of 5 of the accounts since noone was on ql and i wanted to love it but every time id get the urge to play 5 months or so apart from quitting id try it, force it agian, and realize it was just bs. for Goodness sakes guys rapha cheesed everyone for 2-3 years and people praised him and all he was doing was being opportunistic and picking dead wins because noone else wanted to embrace the abilities and non-equal starting characters. The cheesiest guy in quake got to be even cheesier in this game lol. go figure, like serious says , in a game 'where everyfking body is am aim fking goddddd'cheese rains supreme : D

Maybe a new Quake game can give the best of both worlds?
@Reaching84 ай бұрын
Pretty much agree, I played quite a bit during the testing phases and hoped that they'd accept some levels of feedback, but some of the problems are foundational, or borderline negligent. Basic things like there not being demos, custom maps, or proper private servers which I can host and dial into just aren't available. The fact the game uses very similar damage tables to Quake 3 despite player health and damage resistance being generally lower is a headscratcher, and pretty stupid. I get what they were trying for with Sacrifice, but the fact there's no CTF, Clan Arena took forever to come out, no Freeze Tag, bots populate dead servers etc makes it feel nothing like a full quake experience in the past. That's before things like the fact the engine is AWFUL, and does not poll the mouse properly which was not a prolbem to the same degree in Q3(locked 125), Q4 MAX, QL, or now Quake derrivatives like Reflex and Diabotical. This gets even worse because there aren't demos, so someone who streams is gonna get inconsistent FPS, maybe have to reduce graphics to have the game look like ass, and still get their mouse going all over the place without the option to play in one set of visuals and watch back in another. The champions are almost an afterthought, they're really a terrible addition to the game for sure, BUT compared to the other issues with the game, champions are pretty low on the list. Like if it was just Quake Life + champions in the duel mode, I think that could have been survivable, and I remember when ID was experimenting with this. I actually really like the idea of different starting weapons for being by choice, I think that might be the best naked spawn idea without making it too op or too useless, so it's not like every change is bad, just the majority of them. What happens in the next Quake(or ID duel game, even if that ends up being DOOM or something else) is entirely dependent on if they use a functional engine with mapping and demo support, that polls the mouse at a consistent rate, that runs properly, and where the damage tables make sense. In a worst case scenario, I don't see why it's not Quake 4 or Quake 3 engine, but I don't see why the current IDTech can't handle some hit cylinders and fast movers.

It has to be deeper than that. The idea that this is just a problem with Quake Live, and is unavoidable doesn't sound right. Normally this happens by players leaking IP, but there's things that can be done like putting the server behind a data centre, or not giving all players the IP, to minimize the number who have it. If one player causes a DDOS and the match somehow gets finished, the server IP can be reset, and that player won't be provided the next IP, so there shouldn't be a way to continue attacks without more legwork. This all seems super weird and poorly explained to me.
