As a general rule for any scope and canted base ail, take the total elevation travel of the scope, divide by two, and that number will be the maximum amount of moa base to mount.

My Armalite AR50A1 50BMG has a 15 MOA rail with a 20 MOA DNZ Reaper BEAST mount and the SWFA SS 5-20X50 HD scope. It's an amazing setup. My Ruger Precision Rifle Gen3 308 has the 20 MOA rail with a DNZ Freedom Reaper 20 MOA mount with a SWFA SS fixed 10 power scope (it's the US Navy contract number N00164-93-C-205 model) and it's also an amazing setup. Of course the SWFA SS scopes have more elevation travel than almost any other scope on the market so it's not an issue at close range but gives you insane amounts of adjustment for long ranges and extreme long ranges.

Nice timing on the video. I was having the same problem on one of my rifles and have been scratching my head. Big help, thanks.

I did this with my .223 without thinking about it. My 6.5 CM is set up with a 20 MOA base and 20 MOA mount. I set my .223 up the exact same way. Same scope, same rifle, same base, same mount. I was about 1 Mil high at 100 and could not come any lower.

Flip it around, would have gave you 0 moa. LOL, just so you can stay out and shoot.

Yes, but the work would have been wasted when I put the correct mount on it. 😉

On my MDT LSS I have a 20 MOA MDT Picatinny scope rail with a 20 MOA Spuhr qd mount but my Schmidt Bender PMII has 34 Mils of elevation which is I still within the elevation range.

Great video on stacking. I have had a similar problem that was very perplexing. How does one determine the incline of rifle, mount and scope when they are not marked and manufacturer does not provide that information?

I bought a Steiner T5Xi 3-15 and they say to use a 45moa mount. Boy are they wrong, it caused the same issue because it doesn't have any downward movement in the turret. Ended up with a Geissele 20 moa mount that worked great, up 3 mils from the bottom and still about 21 mils of up travel.

I just blindly discovered i had this same problem today at the range on my savage axis 2. I had just put on a new sig tango 4 (6 to 24 x50) and discovered i had 40 moa incline and ran out of down clicks. Learning the hard way is expensive lol. I suppose i need a smaller 0 moa mount or mounts. Im not sure what works best to fix this, but thankful i found your video to learn of a 0 moa mount that exists. Thanks!

I put a 20 moa badger base with a 20 moa adm Mount; with my Bushnell dmr ii I easily got a 200 yard zero With the razor hd's being on sale I replaced the bushy and couldn't get a 200yd zero. I have a match next weekend so I had to zero at 300 then after the match ill put regular rings on and hopefully get back to my 200yd zero Great video as always

i need a 40 moa rail for my 22lr to reach a 440 yard target i have. currently the farthest i can hit accurately is 330 yards which is already a 45 moa up in elevation.

It happens. I drove to my local range, set up my paper targets, set up my lane, went to get my ammunition.......had the wrong cartridges!!! After packing up, leaving my targets only hoping they stay there, i went home and got the correct cartridges, got back to range and my targets were gone. Improvised with other people's cartridge boxes in the trash can, turned them inside out and drew a target on them. An other range mishap/bungle stories out there?

personally i don't like MOA rails or mounts. i know it helps with adjusting for zero at long range but it bothers me to see the scope nose diving on top of a rifle. i like using hold over to achieve long range shots.

Does the Nightforce NXS 5-25x50 have enough adjustment to run bases equal to 40 MOA of incline?
@carl-ok9gn
@carl-ok9gn 5 жыл бұрын
figure it out on your own and learn something. look at how much adjustment is in the elevation and think about it. please.

@@yeates26 For hunting 40 MOA incline is something you will never use. For long range shooting, you will need to take it pretty far to ever need 40 MOA. But it should work.
@pepelapiu2004
@pepelapiu2004 5 жыл бұрын
@@yeates26 I couldn't find your specific scope. But with 40 MOA of cant, you would likely need a scope with 100 MOA of elevation adjustment range to zero at 100 yards. Having known NF scopes, yours likely has than much. But better make sure. You will need at the very least 80 MOA of range on your elevation adjustment. 100 would be better. It takes a pretty serious shooter to use 40 MOA mount. That's likely overkill for you. It would be for me. I have 20 MOA on my .338 LM and I haven't gone down to use all of that up ever before.
