I relaxed my hair this morning and tried to correct an under processed area in the back of my head. I wish I saw your video before that! All great information, thank you for sharing. I like that you mention how the neutralizer can contribute to reverting back, I experienced that today! I let my relaxer in for a total of 30 minutes (ORS no lye normal strength with my mom helping) that was longer than my usual, and only massaged by hand. I was scared I left it on too long as it felt very straight when I washed it out, but I neutralized longer and more diligently and I feel like I might have saved or even reverted back my hair from over-processing. It came out great. Thank you for all your videos, your hair is goals

I needed this. I haven't had a proper relaxer in about a year. All of them came out underprocessed. It seems to have been due to: stretching for too long (four months was pushing it then this one time I accidentally did five. What a nightmare), basing my scalp the day of like you mentioned, and accidentally protecting the new growth not just the previously relaxed parts. A lot of it really came down to being too careful. My last relaxer fixed the previously underprocessed ones, but the new hair was undeprocessed. It looks like natural hair blown out, which is still better than the under-processing I've had before. It was also the first relaxer I did completely by myself, and despite the underprocesisng, I'm quite satisfied with how it turned out.

Wow. The tip about over neutralizing bringing back texture is never something I would have thought about. I relaxed at home for the first time by myself. Not only did i make the mistake of stretching too long to the point i had a tangled matted mess at my hair’s breaking point, during neutralizing I literally felt my hair reverting and I was so confused 😅! Thanks for everything ❤

This video was very informative. The issue with me is that I went to a professional to get my relaxers because I'm too afraid to do it myself. However, I've been underprocessed twice, and I hated it both times. My stylist did use a timer and washed it out immediately after it went off, so maybe that's the issue. I thought that maybe my hair was telling me that it didn't like relaxers anymore, so I could go back to being natural, but I guess I just needed some more education. I've been transitioning my hair for about 7 to 8 months now, but now that I know better, I'm ready to get another relaxer and stylist. Thanks for the tips!

Thank you!! I really like your channel. I love how your sister helps you on relaxer day. That's a great idea and it has helped me to create a new way of processing my hair. The relaxing process is so time sensitive. Since I don't have anyone to assist me, on relaxer day, I now only do half of my hair at a time. The process takes twice as long, but I get to give the attention that my hair needs with less stress. I set several notification on my phone to insure even processing. I truly see a difference.

My hair is thick and coarse. I used mild relaxer last night because of my fear of over processing. I've been doing this for awhile wondering why my hair is never straight and silky. Turns out, I'm not using a strong enough relaxer. My hair looks like a relaxer never touched it. It's so stressful. I have to correct it, I just purchased a strong relaxer that I will use in 8 weeks. In the meantime, I am going to make sure I deep condition my hair at least once a week along with a protein treatment.

Man, you are good. I needed this video when I didn’t even know I need this. I had surgery twice in the summer and my hair is so dry. I did end up perming it but the perm didn’t take. I waited six weeks and I was under processed. Both the 5,5,10 and the double dipping could both be my issue. This came in time for my next relaxer. Thank you so much. I’m stuck right above bra strap length. I want to push further and I’m considering hair steaming. It’s the only thing I don’t do. I bought a hair steamer but it doesn’t work. So, I gotta wait for another one. Val, God bless you. You are wonderful. ❤😊😊

First off, thank you so much for your videos. I have learned so much. Trying to help my 13 year old daughter navigate her relaxed hair. I ended my relaxed hair journey about 7 years ago and installed sisterlocks mainly because not understanding the relaxer process and the things to do to main healthy hair. Your channel has built up my confidence in caring for her hair. Her stylist leaves texture in her hair but it might be causing some breakage but we have not been consistent with her hair care routine at night or even deep conditioner treatments during her wash day. So there could be several elements at play . So we will start the new process with her next relaxer session and following the pre relaxer process you have outlined in your videos then following a consistent hair regimen for the next 12 weeks. Hopefully see done improvement in her hair and reduced breakage

Thank you so much for the love and feedback. Definitely jump on getting her back on a consistent schedule where her wash day/moisturizing + sealing etc. is concerned. This will help combat the breakage and it will be much more manageable to deal with the extra texture.

Not everyone is the same; and we don’t all have the same hair growth as well. Mine grows quite quickly compared to the average. If I go beyond 10 weeks, which is more a question of opportunity rather than wanting to stretch the timeline. 12 weeks and I’m a hot mess…you can’t barely get to my scalp! Even when I used to go at the salon to get it done, one place charged me for a full relaxer as I had like 14 weeks or so of growth. And I no longer use the no lye cause having to mix the stuff…it’s often not enough.

Thanks for these tips. I took a two year break from relaxer so my new growth was already pass my shoulders and I already had really long relaxed hair prior to my two year break. However when I finally relaxed I had alot of underprocessed areas of varying textures while my roots were super straight. Overall my relax hair was to my butt when I was done but it needed a good trim. Relaxers are painful for me hence why I took the long break so idk when I'll be able to do a corrective relaxer😔. I'll be sure not to wait so long ever again. Also my mom relaxes my hair and she never uses a neutralising shampoo, and she hasn't in almost a decade, I was shocked when I read on the back of the container that you had to use one, she also wanted me to wait 20min before I washed it out while the container said 15max😬. You saved the day dear. I wanted to know how to correct under processed hair. Thank you so much. I will take your advice. I switched to ORS from Just for me. My hair has been very dry. I have used ORS before, I think it worked better for me.

I have been relaxing my hair at home for years and for the first time I have under-processed hair and can't believe how unmanageable it is. Was it this hard to maintain my transitiong hair before?? lol. Thank you for this video, I'll have to do a corrective relaxer ASAP because I am losing so much hair every time until I've been avoiding it, haven't washed it for weeks 😢😢😢.

How can you take care of over processed hair ? I’ve been relaxing my hair for years and it wasn’t until a year ago that I found out you weren’t supposed to relax all your hair…. Each time. So I have some over processed hair. What should I be doing to keep it as healthy as possible! PS I love your videos !!! Sooo helpful

Oh my goodness, that's what happened to me; I neutralized too often! For the first time in my life my hair was under processed. But it doest have it's normal texture, has less shine, looks like I've walked in humid weather 😢 Now a hairdresser asked if I ever relaxed the whole head from root to ends, she says she does that sometimes. Is that wise to do? I'm so lost...😢

Hi Val. New subbie & binge watching your videos. Much love 💕💕 You've been relaxing for more than a decade and must've used old(ish) relaxer jar without a problem. Could the under processing you have experienced lately be related to the bond builders you are now using making new growth resistant to relaxers? Would it be better to use bond builders on the relaxed part of the hair only?

this is exactly what happened to me I just got a relaxer on Wednesday the 29 the front is ok but the back isn't when I comb it hurts, I was thinking about buying another box to only do the part that's not relaxed but I'm not sure if that's a good idea, I have been crying since yesterday 🥺🥺

I just relaxed my daughter hair. She has very thick, dense, corse, long hair and it was virgin hair... However I use a regular strength relaxer and her roots took really good but her ends didn't... am wondering if it my fault because I didn't detangle her kinks out which I was told not too before hand but am upset because I have done relaxers forever on my own hairbut I did leave it in her hair for just 35mins was that long enough

Hey Val can you do a beginner relaxer tips and haul. I plan on relaxing my hair with the lye relaxer from ors and using the no lye relaxer box kit for the shampoo, conditioner, neutralizer, hair lotion, and etc.. I’m buying the relaxer box only for the extra items not for the relaxer itself. It’s really overwhelming to have to purchase so many items to relax my hair and to maintain so can you do like a beginner relaxer video. Also do I have ti put heat in my relaxed hair. I plan on only airdrying.

Hiya, I’ve always loved your videos and bc of you, long and healthy relaxed hair is no longer a pipe dream. The last time I relaxed my hair, it looked like the picture on the “incorrect” side in the picture you showed. My ends are still kinda curly but everywhere else is smooth. What do you suggest I do to fix that? I also want to achieve more of a textured relaxer look (similar to yours) instead of a bone straight look.
