I will be 64 when I complete my FNP. I plan to work well into my 70s. It’s more of a self-actualization thing for me. The upside to waiting this long is that I’m financially comfortable at this age and so I’m able to pay for this with accruing debt. I supported my husband in his career and put my daughter through her PharmD program, now it’s my turn!

I was. CNA for 15 years and a LVN for 4. I'm finally starting the RN program this month at 45y/o. While I'm not thrilled about still being a student at this age, I am encouraged that I've seen plenty of nurses in their 60s and even 70s still going strong.

@greeneyedbaldy
@greeneyedbaldy 21 күн бұрын
@@lindsay3793 Hi Lindsay, I just graduated a few weeks ago and I'll be taking the nclex soon. As for your question, it really depends on your specific situation. I dont regret becoming an LVN, but I do wonder if back in 2017 I should have finished my associate degree, and retaken the TEAS exam instead. I could have increased my point value significantly, which meant that I could have conceivably gotten directly into a program in 2018 or 2019, meaning I would have finished in 2020 or 2021. However, this would have also meant that I would have had to have kept working as a CNA for a couple more years and I was really tired of being a CNA. I guess just try and formulate both scenarios and weigh the pros and cons of each. Good luck to you 🍀

I graduated last June and I took the NCLEX PN passed that. Currently being careful with job assignments because of a bad experience. No regrets I did it always wanted to be a nurse and my mother died during the early phases of COVID 19.Spent several years taking care of my mother in Toronto I promised her that I would someday become a nurse. Very rewarding profession will pursue the RN route very soon.

I definitely think that nursing is one of those fields in which life experience is a huge advantage, and employers recognize that. I started nursing school when I was 27, after having my two oldest kids and then, I started NP school at 45 (after having my fourth child at 43, so I guess you could say I've fully adopted the "never too late" philosophy in all aspects of my life). Both times in school I found that a) I wasn't anywhere near the oldest in my class and b) having a little extra maturity and exposure to the ups and downs of life really helped. Now, as a new NP at 47, I had no problem finding my first job in primary care and I'm looking forward to a 20-25 year career as an NP!

This made me so happy and it really was something I needed to hear! I’m 25 and my parents been on my back about school about how I’m wasting my life and comparing me to people younger then me that’s already graduated. Ive been through so much in my life and been through so many set backs I felt I could never achieve anything. After loosing my grandma in September I felt lost but mostly a failure because I felt that if I was a nurse I could’ve done more to help. I start nursing school April 2nd and I’m excited but I haven’t told my parents. I thank God to finally get this step and hope my grandma will be proud of me

Thanks for posting this video. I am 46 and I want to become a CNM. When I was 31 years old I was accepted into a 2 year nursing program at my CC. At the time I was married and had four children who were 9, 7, 3 and 1. It was extremely hard and unfortunately I didn't have a great support system. I was dismissed from the program in my first semester as I didn't pass by a few points. Life happened and now here I am excited about pursuing nursing. I am in my second marriage, my children are adults and in their late teens and I have a great support system. I am currently applying to an accelerated program for Fall 2019. At one of the schools information sessions I asked them about the age range of their current cohort. They told me that the ages ranged from 19 - 61. 🤩

Hi I’m 38 and I also don’t have a good support system. It’s been a dream of mine to be a surgical nurse but I’m terrified to go back to college and to work. I’m always in my own head. I feel I’m to old and not smart enough to become a surgical nurse. I know if I don’t do this I’m gonna have big regrets. I’m just scared that if do this I’m probably gonna be on my own with my daughter and I know that I cannot fail at this. I don’t know what to do😔

Thank you Liz! I so needed to hear this one. I just recently found you here and IG. I just started my NP program on 3/28/21. I took my 1st class and got an A!! Yes! I agree with you on the life experiences factor and being a little older going into nursing school. I got my LVN at 20, My RN at 26 and my BSN at 45.. I am now 55 and finishing my NP. I will work till at least 65-68 . I am a life long learner. We nurses are always learning. Thank you for confirming that we are never too old to do this on this episode. I have wanted to be an NP for a very long time and I know without a doubt, I would have huge regret not doing this for myself. So THANK YOU !! You are adorable and so full of good energy. I have loved listening to you.. Happy Mothers Day !!

I am in 2nd semester of an ABSN program. Most of my class is 30's and 40's aged people with a couple 20's and one plus 50. It feels entirely doable. I was worried about being "too old" as well. . . .But I think I can still work 20-30 more years for sure. Maybe shift into education in my older years if I'm still with it! Everyone I've met in my cohort are DRIVEN. The 40's and 50 yr olds are super grounded. I can feel their determination and like you said, an unflappable aspect! I'm someone who went to college at age 18 and was lost. Did many things all over. . insurance, florist, soap company. It never felt RIGHT. Wasted over 10 years just being a lost random person. Now I feel anchored. I love nursing school. I love having drive and challenge and purpose. It is so difficult but I can tell VERY WORTH IT. Just starting down this path I already feel I belong! thanks for the great video!

I make pretty good money as a server in a nice restaurant and am a few months away from having my massage license. After I get some professional experience in massage I want to start my prerequisites for becoming a nurse. This gives me hope and inspiration. 23 years ago, I completed CNA 1 & 2, program, then began an LPN school in a small school in NC. I struggled with test taking and due to an undiagnosed “comprehensive learning disorder”, I withdrew from the program in my last semester. I could kick myself for sure because I’ll be 50 in August and I’ve never felt successful. I’ve always worked full time in the medical filed. I was a phlebotomists in a small office for many years, then I was an office manager for a neurologist (the dr diagnosed me with ADD after 17yrs of withdrawing from LPN school). I love the field and now have my own business where I run errands and do home healthcare for seniors. I’ve always dreamed of working in labor and delivery or becoming a midwife. I’m military wife and my husband will retire in 4yrs. I’ve raised two children who are now 19 and 13yo. I have one more year homeschool my son, before he starts high school. I don’t feel like I’ve accomplished all that I was meant to do. I’m extremely active and feel like the older I get, the sillier it is to go back to school....since my memory is awful! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. God Bless!

I'm 38 years old and just received my BSN in nursing. I started off as an LPN at the age of 27, started ADN school at the age of 29 and received that degree at the age of 31. I waited a few years to get my BSN because I said that I wouldn't get it unless I knew for sure that I wanted to work as an NP. I now know that I am ready to start my NP journey and I am so ready. I just filled out the application to hopefully get accepted in August of this year. No kids. I may have a least one. Good luck everyone.

But, as you stated, I am happy to be going on this journey as a more mature, responsible person. I am also making a switch from an allied healthcare field, I am currently an OT, so I already have a lot of hospital based healthcare experience. I am not making the switch to get away from OT, I still really enjoy it. I am making the switch due to job accessibility in my particular situation. Which is a mature, grown up decision, I suppose. Just now seeing your videos and loving your energy and content. I'll be 42 next week and am finishing up my prerequisites for a BSN program that I am planning to jump into next fall. This is a great video! So far these past 2 semesters of prerequisites I've been doing all online and have been so worried about the program that I'll be surrounded by people half my age and my son's age (he is going into college this year). I know this is an irrational fear as I'm sure there will be others, but still I'm also sure the majority will be super young. Anyway, this video calmed my nerves a bit, my life experience has been immense so thank you for this positive twist on things.

You know that teenage girl mentality! Haha! I start in August for my ADN RN, then on to my Bachelors afterwards. (Hopefully!). I will be my first of many 29 this year and I have three kids.
