TOOL Discusses Guitar Hero World Tour

Hugely popular alternative metal band Tool, known for their epic, intense musical arrangements and killer visual arts, will also soon be known for their contribution to the upcoming Guitar Hero World Tour. Guitar Hero fans from all over the world will be able to rock out to Parabola and Grammy-award winning Schism from Tools critically-acclaimed 2001 album Lateralus in addition to Vicarious from their 2006 Grammy-award winning album 10,000 Days. The game will also feature an all-new venue designed in collaboration with the band and highlighting the art style that has become a staple in their music videos, live shows and album artwork.

Well it's a good thing World Tour was the beginning of the end for Guitar Hero then. I have never ever heard anyone say that TOOL sold out because of this game. You are the first.

What I love about Tool is that they are very careful about how they market themselves. The music is whats important, so that takes center stage. You cheapen your image if you allow companies to license your likeness or name. Look at what happened to the late fashion designer Halston. Tool are doing it right.

I've played most GH games except for World Tour. I remember playing Vicarious at a friend's house and dear god I was scared shitless. I was only like 15 so no wonder, I didn't even understand their music. Now, it's absolutely amazing.

Tool somehow manage to enforce everything be done the way they want, according to their vision. From what I heard, it's actually in the contract with their label that the label is not allowed to mess around with Tool's music. They've shown their sense of vision again here. Great band, great artists.

I always loved Tool, but turned into my favorite band some weeks ago. I'm very happy I can play Vicarous, Parabola and Schism with every instrument on my GH World Tour. The most awesome band ever. Oh, and the Tool 'stage' is just the best in the game.

I was so captivated by the TOOL section in World Tour as a kid. I would sit there and make a playlist with Schism, Parabola, Vicarious, Hot For Teacher, Crazy Train, and Mr. Crowley (maxed at 6 songs) and play TOOL songs all day on expert. As silly as it may sound, I love guitar hero and thank them for my music taste and making me want to learn to play a real guitar.

I been a fan of Tool when I was a kid because my parents listen to them alot and when Guitar Hero had Tool songs I was excited that one of my favorite bands is in the game! They could've put more like Stinkfist, Sober, and other Tool songs but I guess 3 Tool songs are good. Especially the background artwork they use in game like Lateralus, Undertow, 10,000 Days, and much more I was surprised and plus it didn't scare me as kid or anything else on the songs it was perfect.

I totally agree. It was great that they were allowed to create their own trippy venue to play in. I will never want to stop playing their now. I haven't played either yet but for me GHWT wins just because of Tool. Nothing can ever beat that. Imagine if they used Lateralus. That would have been epic.

Adam and Alex gray are seriously two of the most awesome artists ever. To have them in a gh game? I was a little hesitant to believe that it could be pulled off. But wow. They really did do it, bravo Activision. Also, there's no way he got a blister from the guitar. But who cares where he got it from. He likes the game he helped create. End of story.

Agreed. I've never understood the notion that for a band to "stay true" to their roots or not be accused of selling out that they must do almost nothing with regards to promoting themselves. I don't know of any band that *doesn't* want continually more people to hear their music. What better way than showcasing a few songs on one of the most popular game franchises while doing it *your* way. Ah well, can't please everyone I guess.

If you're gonna play Tool in Guitar Hero,play bass or sing. The guitar/drums are epic but the bass lines in Tool's songs are legendary.

@ShadeCrenshaw Because they use a lot of visual art and wanted to incorporate that, as they've never been into glamourising their own image. As for song lengths, Schism and Parabola are around 6mins, and Vicarious is around 7. If i'm not mistaken Pull Me Under - Dream Theater (the end song of the game) is around 8 minutes. Some of the best songs on there are pretty long. The song isn't long to be flash, it's just the way they work, the last few albums has a lot of long, arty songs.

the only reason i bought world tour was because of Tool, they are quite literally the best band in the world. Even though I think it would of been better if they created a patch which obtained the tool material, after the game was released.

I do not think they ever will allow their music on Itunes. I think the most we will ever see is them doing it themselves if they ever choose to release material online. Like what Trent Reznor is doing with Nine Inch Nails

also bought this game solely for the TOOL songs, i really hope they add more because buying a 60 dollar game for 3 songs kind of blows, but it is still worth it to me. i'll continue playing Rock Band 2 the rest of the time :D

honestly, i think ppl are taking this whole tool staying true to their roots way too seriously. its a fucking game. games are made to entertain. tool just happens to be apart of this phenomenon. good for them. to be honest i never really heard much of tool until i heard them being in guitar hero. i heard their song vicarious and was amazed by it. guitar, drums, bass, lyrics especially. just accept it for what it is. no ones opinion matters to anyone else on here.

Tool's best album by far is Lateralus...don't get me wrong, they've never made a bad album, they are all great but Lateralus is much greater...can't wait to get GHWT and bang out Schism and Parabola

Now I feel like a total punk... Well, I don't have to, since I never say that I'm a Tool fan, I guess I'm too young to have really gotten into them otherwise, since I didn't used to listed to this kind of music. Now that I think about it, I guess it's good that they're not on iTunes (that's where I get most of my music). That means I have to listed to all of their stuff now! Which is better!

Wish they would have put Lateralus the SONG into it as well. It being my favorite and all, I think it would be freaking badass to play it while floating through some kick ass Alex Grey artwork!! Just my opinion. Side note: thought people messing up notes and having it make that awful noise, would probably kill it for me, especially if it was me ruining it :P hah.

He's not there because it is Adam Jones (with Alex Grey) who create Tool's artwork. Maynard isn't even the "frontman" for Tool, so why wouldn't you be asking "where's Danny, or where's Justin" if you're wondering about other members of the band.

tis worth it, the game is really good. i mean come on. create a rocker! its such a fun twist on the genre. i hate rock band, and even though you know the GH guys only did this to compete with them, its still really fun. swing on the spiral and continue to learn.

they should fucking put 46 and 2!!! Fucking sweet drum solo!!! Also they should add songs like H., The grudge, The patient, Jambi, Intention,(Trying to think what is appropriate for GH fanboys) errmmm, Lateralus (For teaching kids about the Fibonacci science, Spiral out!!) and i cannot really think about appropriate for kids nowadays... Unless Jerk off and Hush are made from other fans through Scorehero... Haha those songs would be sweet!!

For all the new comers to Tool's music, try these on for size: Any song off the Lateralus album like: The Grudge Ticks & Leeches Any song off the Opiate album. As for roots, I've yet to see a Tool song being smeared accross General Motors or McDonalds commericals. I'm just saying...

I know you've probably gotten a buttload of replies already seeing as you posted that 2 years ago, but I couldn't disagree with you more! Guitar Hero is what introduced me to tons of great music. In fact, it's what got me into actually playing music. 3 years ago I bought a bass, and I'm still playing the hell out of it. If it weren't for GH, I would never have gotten into it. I can understand where you're coming from. It's annoying as all hell to watch someone play it.

I seriously doubt that. And again, I'm taking a mere educated guess on personal experience: Drums are the most likely cause of blisters.
