Sam Westphalen
In the absence of a drummer, Sam hits his guitar a lot in an attempt to get as much music out of the instrument as possible. His KZfaq videos have reached over 3 million views with an overwhelmingly positive response. He can be spotted on the streets of Sydney, earning more than minimum wage by playing guitar and receiving money from generous passers-by. He can also write about himself in the 3rd person when necessary.

Woah woah too fast. Tool are the ones that wrote this masterpiece. From playing it and making it even more complicated showing masterful skills of guitar, to be considered the one that made it even better, well, from start he did't came up with the piece. One think is to spend days, months, years to play something written, another is to actually compose something out of this world. This guy will certainly have a great career with this level of valuable skills and, of course, good taste for good music and I hope to hear something composed by him live!

Do you ever play any Days Of The New? I could see you covering "Dancing With The Wind" and really killing it!!!!!! By the way, I'm not sure if you've ever listened to Lateralus rearranged into "The Holy Gift" in it's correct sequence but, I always try and show people that re-ordered version of that album because I believe it's actually the way the songs were supposed to be ordered (it's a Fibonacci Sequence if you're into that type of trivial knowledge.) "The Holy Gift" played start to finish seems essentially like a rock opera of the highest order, as far as I'm concerned it's one of the most prolific albums in the past couple decades in regards to it also being a "commercial success." I listen to "The Holy Gift" every time I do DMT and I have always had the most epic breakthrough journeys on the Molecule while Tool is playing in the background. The entire album seems to me like it was basically created specifically for journeying into the realm of The Godhead. Your cover of my favorite Tool track is gonna be playing quite a bit from here on out. I just showed my wife and she thinks you're amazing!!!! What you're doing, no matter what anyone says to you, no matter how much money comes to you, whether or not the people who are responsible for placing a performer in the spotlight, no matter what, PLEASE DON'T EVER GIVE UP PLAYING!!! YOU ARE QUITE LITERALLY DOING GOD'S WORK. OUR WHOLE REALITY IS PARTICLES OF ENERGY VIBRATING. THOSE VIBRATIONS YOU HAVE SENT OUT INTO THE ETHER, NOT ONLY WHEN YOU RECORDED THIS, EVERY TIME A PERSON PLAYS THIS, YOU ARE MAKING AN IMPACT ON REALITY ITSELF AND THE RESULT WHICH WILL VARY FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL WHO WATCHES AND LISTENS BUT, IN MY EXPERIENCE RIGHT NOW YOU HAVE BROUGHT ME JOY, A BIT OF PIECE, SOMETHING THAT MADE ME THINK, A GIFT I IMMEDIATELY FELT I SHOULD SHARE WITH MY LOVED ONES!!! IF YOU BELIEVE THIS WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL, IF YOU NEVER DOUBT IT, IF YOU SPEAK IT INTO EXISTENCE AT EVERY POSSIBLE OPPORTUNITY, IF YOU ARE LOYAL TO YOUR CRAFT, THEN I SUGGEST YOU ALSO DO ALL OF THAT FOR REWARDS FOR YOUR CRAFT. TELL YOURSELF THAT YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE MONEY, TELL YOURSELF YOUR MUSIC WILL CREATE THE LIFE OF YOUR DREAMS, TELL YOURSELF THAT IT IS THE KEY TO UNLOCKING YOUR BEST LIFE. MUSICIANS ESPECIALLY ARE ABLE TO MANIFEST THEIR DESIRES BECAUSE MUSIC IS A SPELL, THE MUSICIAN WHEN PROPERLY AWARE OF THE FACT THEY ARE ACTUALLY PERFORMING REAL MAGICK, CAN MANIFEST LIVES BEYOND OUR GREATEST FANTASIES. YOU HAVE A GIFT THAT IS ALSO A POWERFUL TOOL. JUST REMEMBER THAT THE PENDULUM SWINGS BOTH WAYS AND ALL THINGS WILL BALANCE OUT THROUGH THE LAWS OF THIS REALITY. WHAT I MEAN IS THAT IF YOU FIND YOURSELF SUCCESSFUL BEYOND HAVING THE THINGS YOU NEED TO LIVE HAPPILY, BE SURE YOU PAY IT FORWARD. GOD BLESS, THANK YOU FOR THIS INCREDIBLE PIECE OF MUSIC!!!! I TRULY HOPE YOU FIND SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS!!!

I'm a drummer of ten years, this summer. And although I outshine many around me, this is a reminder that the path in any craft doesn't end. There are many stops along the way, and lessons to be discovered all the time. Still I can barely glimpse how far down the road Mr. Westphalen is, his talents are so refined and his voice just natural pours through his hands, I mean damn. We're witnessing a beautiful piece of our species embodying his own imagination- and I can feel my own instrument calling me. So stick with what you love, regardless of what people think about your happiness- stick to it, even ad ESPECIALLY when the time is difficult, and push that edge dammit! May just go where no one's been. Cheers to Sam :D

Wow, it makes total sense that you can play just about any Tool song on a DADGAD guitar. Every song is in D minor, the rhythm syncopations can all be done on the body and low strings, and Maynards vocals on the high ones. Well done!
