Sam Westphalen
In the absence of a drummer, Sam hits his guitar a lot in an attempt to get as much music out of the instrument as possible. His KZfaq videos have reached over 500,000 views (that's over 1,000,000 eyeballs) with an overwhelmingly positive response. He can be spotted on the streets of Sydney, earning more than minimum wage by playing guitar and receiving money from generous passersby. He can also write about himself in the 3rd person when necessary.

AIM
Music Industry and Performing Arts Programs
Beginning as the Sydney Guitar School in 1968 founded by Dr Peter Calvo, the Australian Institute of Music (AIM) is now a major player in education & training for the Australian music industry, performing arts & entertainment management fields. Being an independent institute, AIM is not a music university, however AIM Music Courses deliver accredited music tuition & unique industry relevant programs designed to equip students for successful lifelong creative careers, across music diplomas, music degrees and graduate music studies.
Diverse Music Course Choices
You simply won't find a more diverse combination of professional courses, campus facilities, student body, opportunities & music teachers at the top of their game, & all under one roof, than you will at AIM - with a wide range of undergraduate & graduate music courses, each with its own Head of Department & professional teaching staff. We also offer Acting & Theatre through the Australian Academy of Dramatic Art, in addition to AIM High School, Music Lessons & Young AIM music tuition are also available.
Professional Music Teaching Staff
In addition to our exceptional list of music & performing arts teachers, we also have a fulltime student services support team, marketing admissions team, web team & purposed music library, with over 1000 students and dedicated small staff to student ratio. So there's always something happening.
Customised Music & Entertainment Education
AIM students can individually tailor their studies to integrate performance skills, business management, marketing, individual instrument or voice lessons, audio & sound engineering, music production and other specialised units. Students also undertake industry placements as part of their course.
Great Educational & Performance Facilities
With select facilities, performance spaces, industry standard Q Studios - and with industry staff on hand, students can develop the confidence and skills needed to pursue a successful career in the music industry, performing arts & wider entertainment fields.
A big thanks the Jason de Wilde(Audio Genius) for helping out with the Audio. And the legendary Peter Mooney for Camera work.

If you've played for 16 years, it probably wouldn't be difficult for you to pick up on guitar percussion. Once you've got down the coordination, it's not that difficult. It's like learning classical for the first time, how your thumb doesn't quite work so well with the rest of your fingers, but after a while it starts to happen on it's own accord. Hehe. Accord. A-chord

For the record, I think his voice is fucking fine. I will agree that it seems nonsensical and doesn't fit the "metal" aspect, it being a Pantera song, but if anyone watches other things by him he's clearly not a tard. Instead he's not a metal singer, or he accepts it anyway whereas he doesn't growl, and not to mention it is an acoustic cover so that would be out of place regardless. All in all, it comes down to Sam having fun. He knows he's fucking good, and if he wants to sing, then fuck it. It adds a bit of tongue and cheek character to the crazy upbeat energy that's starkly different from the tone of the original due to it being an acoustic cover and all the other little tweaks within it.

You're incredibly gifted, and this style of guitar playing is criminally underrated. Bravo!

It's funny listening to one of your favourites in a different way like this - really reminds you of why you appreciated the song in the first place. I think when you listen to a song too many times you forget its qualities, but when stripped back like this, you realise how good a song it is. Also, nice performance Sam.

almost a Les Claypool quality with the way you deliver the vocals. I love that percussive element. Friggin awesome!

Not sure that I'm too thrilled about his singing voice, but his guitar talent more than makes up for it. I mean, he has got to be one of the best guitar players I've seen.

This is absolutely the best, I can't believe anyone thinks this is stupid, clearly Sam is having fun and I laughed my ass off at the face's he was pulling, so just chill people, it was a pretty decent cover.

I don't know why so many people are raging about this I think it's pretty cool the way he uses the guitar to do the percussion.
