This video is all about how to make cheap garage mods that look expensive, but only cost a fraction of what you would get from the hardware store. Save yourselves tons of money by building something that probably will serve you better than the cookie cutter garage storage from Lowes or Home Depot.

Good to see you encouraging the children to join in. My girls, now with their own families, were taught to do tyre changes and minor repairs before getting their licences. The eldest was the only female in a car of five that could change a tyre. Helpful when the nearest help is 2 hours away on a dark night.

I usually add a back cleat to my shelves after I had a few sagging problems. The humidity can get pretty high here in southeast Kansas during the summer months. Still a great idea
@MikeDoesDIY
@MikeDoesDIY 3 жыл бұрын
What is a back cleat?
@khookieman
@khookieman 3 жыл бұрын
@@MikeDoesDIY I think what Michael meant was a third cleat which you would attach to the back, so the shelf sits on 3 cleats, 2 on the sides which you originally made ad a third in the back which would prevents the sag along with offering even more support .

Nice build, looks great. A question, do you live in a humid area and if so did you paint the back and the underside of the cabinet? Moisture will come up through the concrete floor and cause rot.

stumbled across your channel. subbed. nice build. I'm curious... that is the tiniest portaband I've ever seen. Do you find you use it more than a regular sized one? Is it strong enough to still do steel or is it just for aluminum mostly?
@MikeDoesDIY
@MikeDoesDIY 3 жыл бұрын
I use it almost always. I never have to use the large porta-band unless the metal piece is larger than the smaller porta-band gap. You can get blades to cut through steel all day.

Currently with the elevated cost of construction materials, do you think building storage is still a relevant cost savings compared to buying? I recently built a 72"Hx48"Wx24"D garage storage rack. I built it for a project for my 2 small boys and I (priceless), although much sturdier, the project did not cost much less than if I had bought one of similar size.

Great video and nice ideas. I noticed that you have R-Tech insulation on your garage door. I measured 179° on the outside face of my garage door (mid-September, full sun, south Florida); the inside temperature was over 100°. I used the R-Tech and some expanding form for the cracks to achieve a 15° to 20° reduction in temperature inside. Thanks for sharing.

Súper cool that you can build it , my respects , but the difference between all the brands that you mention is that they would last more, hide and organized everything. Not everyone have your super abilities and if I look for someone like you to build it, it would be much more expensive..

I appreciate the step-by-step breakdown of how you made this work for you. But for future vids, I'd steer away from saying "you can make this for cheap" particularly b/c you already owned some of the tools needed to make this, plus had some spare material lying around for a project like this. So it didn't entirely cost you between $300-400 to make this. I highlight this b/c you'll have viewers like me who are literally brand new, won't have supplies, won't have spare materials lying around, and won't have a clue what they're doing.
