Tool The Patient Pt. 1 attempting to learn anything! Covers are part of how I learn to adapt my technique and accommodate my mobility limitations. Switching to a pick after years of finger-style has been surprisingly frustrating for me but I like the sound and wanted to learn some Tool, so playing with a pick it is!
These first run throughs I start by following the tab with a backing track. It shows how lost and frustrated I get, but filmed anyway as it’s part of my process learning songs, new techniques, developing, understanding timing, adapting to locked fingers, intermittent paralysis and general clumsiness.
By adapting I mean I can’t play “normally” or technically correct. I only have use of my index & middle fingers on both hands and those fingers sometimes lock in place or become paralyzed. My joints are deformed & painful. I must slide up & down the frets to quickly play notes as I have no strength to stretch my fingers across frets. But I’ve found ways to adapt.
Today I started to learn The Patient by Tool 😬! I love Tool and Justin is phenomenal. Many bass parts I couldn’t get through but just attempting is an enjoyable challenge.
Pt . 2 will be a collab on this song with my grandson. He’s 13 & plays guitar He’s already covered The Patient and has been waiting for me to figure it out . 🤘💜 Thank you so much for watching and reading. Peace ✌️
