You just got your DNA results, you have more than a thousand matches, how do you organise yourself so that you reap the maximum benefits from your results?
This talk reviews tools to help you sort and organise your matches so that you can identify thru which ancestor you are related to each of your matches. It also explores tools for estimating the precise relationship between you and each match. We also explore tools for identifying triangulated segments. And lastly we discuss how to reconstruct an ancestor's DNA.
Tools included are:
FTDNA's paternal & maternal buckets feature
Ancestry's coloured dots / buttons
Autoclustering tools (Genetic Affairs, Gedmatch)
Autosomal DNA Matrix tools (Gedmatch)
Shared cM Tool (DNA Painter)
WATO (DNA Painter)
McGuire Chart
Triangulated segments (MyHeritage, ADSA, Gedmatch)
Chromosome painting & its various applications (DNA Painter)
Lazarus (Gedmatch)
GenomeMate Pro
Adoptee Worksheet template

Thank you, very informative. This helped fill in some gaps on what I am doing wrong, and now have better understanding of how to use some of the tools on websites.

Ive identified my mums cousin and then a 1st cousin once removed that lead me to find that my paternal side is not who I thought! This video gives me multiple ways of checking this theory so thank you very much.

I am listening to you, and I am so excited that I think we are related, because I am ALSO from the Morgans from Wales, the brothers who emmigrated to Colonial America!

I am still going through your presentation and am amazed how much information I can get by using the tools you are showing us! I had no idea these were here to use and cannot wait to get started. (Also, I believe I am related to you and maybe now can find out how)

Started to view this and the information is very comprehensive so far. I tried to link my matches to my tree but unfortunately the button at the top of my tree page is greyed out. I'm not sure what I need to do to make it work.

I am interested in knowing why you say it's virtually impossible for more than four people to have the same triangulated segment. Do you mean segments with the exact same start and end point? I ask because I am a beginner, but I have found large segments (>10 cM or >15 cM) where several people (six or more) overlap the same area in several areas both on my paternal and maternal area. None of these overlapping segments start and end at the same point though.
