I heard the reason thunderbolts run so well (our autos love them) is the casing is a fraction of a hair narrower than other brands, allowing for easier feeding/ejecting...that makes sense to me, if it is true...don't know if/how that could be measured, but something is right about 'em...

I haven't bought any Golden Bullets for about fifteen years...I always had more failures-to-fire with them than any other rimfire ammo, as well as more weak ones that caused flyers and FTEs or FTFs. Looks like the reliability may have improved since Vista Outdoors purchased them, but it appears they are still have some wild extreme spreads.

Yeah, I honestly expected some failure to fires. I'd bet money there will be when I do the white box 333's. The last time I shot those out of a rifle, I had a handful that didn't fire.

I've fired several bulk round 22lr over the years. The Remington golden bullets have been the worst I've used. I've had the most failure to fire with these. And they sound like they are loaded very inconsistently. But I've always had good luck with Remington LRN Thunderbolts and the Remington Cyclone lead hollow points. I never buy the Golden bullets anymore, but I do have some put back that my family have given me for gifts. Honestly, the only 22lr I have that I believe are worse, is a brick of Russian Rooster steel case 22lr I have put back that were sold during the 90's. I figure when if I get down to using the Golden bullets and the Russian Roosters, I'm in trouble ! Lol. Good video like always !

I stated thinking the "failure-to-fire" depends more on the firearm used. A good solid hit over a wide enough section of the rim likely makes the most difference. If you ever have a failure to fire, save the shell for close examination.

Over the years, I've discovered that 22lr ammo that misfires and malfunctions in autos and double action revolvers, almost always goes off in single action revolvers and double actions fired in single action. And in rifles, I've had more misfires in my Marlin model 60's than any other model. It seems the 60's just don't hit the casing as hard as other rifles. A friend of mine bought a brand new Marlin 60 and came over to try it out. He had about a 10% misfire rate with it. He was using some Winchester bulk Wildcats. Almost every misfired round went off in my Ruger single 6.

I like shooting golden bullets because they are reliable. I’ve got an ar-15 with 22 conversion kit and digi-trigger binary system. We go through 500 of these pretty quick just plinking at cans and it’s a blast. I will tell you, be prepared for extra work cleaning your gun because these dudes get pretty dirty… well to be expected after 500 rounds. Those Winchester that come in the red package aren’t worth a crap, they jam my guns all the time. The very best round from a ton I’ve tested in my AR-15 are the Aguila 40 grain. So far, that is the number one round.

I have personally used Remington Golden Bullets, Remington Thundetbolts, Winchester 333, 555, Super X,, Wildcat 22.; but to keep it to a short list ; The Thundetbolts have about a 3% fail to fire rate. The Remingtons also burn dirty so a lot of cleaning is required. The Golden Bullets had some failure to strike on the first attempt. Granted I was using a Heritage Roughrider revolvers. The Winchesters left a lot of muzzle smoke and noisy report as for 22LR goes. Overall about 98% successful fire rate over the 10, 000 rounds I have fired over the past 2 years or so.

Great budget ammo back then and out of a rifle-length barrel the hollow-point worked! Now just used for metallic silhouette at the gun range or gopher-patrol in the yard. Also, about one or two out of every ten a low powered shot can be felt and usually results in a jam or failure to eject. Can’t wait to use it up and get back to the good stuff. I've shot alot of 22lr over the years, through many different rifles and handguns. My many Marlin 60's I've had, have had the most misfires. It seems to me, the model 60 just has a weak firing pin spring compared to other rifles. A friend of mine was having a 10% misfire rate with a brand new model 60. He was using Winchester Wildcats. Almost every misfired round shot through my Ruger Single 6.

This test makes me think one of two things is true, or maybe even that both things are true.... Either (1) the new Remington ammo after the buyout has better priming compounds but still a little loose on powder level consistency or (2) that TX-22 is way above average in getting poor priming compound to go BOOM, or a combination of 1 & 2. It says a LOT about how good that pistol is to even make me think to even type this comment, it's such an odd thought, but your TX-22 might be TOO GOOD at making them rounds go BOOM, and you have to try out a more typical tool that people seem to have trouble with when shooting the Golden Boolits... It seems from the comments that Marlin Model 60's don't like the old Golden Bullets. Gotta wonder if those Model 60's like the NEW Golden Bullets?? Anyway, that's an awesome "problem" to have... "Is my tool TOO GOOD to test marginal ammo?" This test makes me want to buy a TX-22, not necessarily buy Golden Bullets :) Go ahead, Taurus! And go ahead, Mr. Tools!

Back when I still used them, I had one that would make 100 yards no problem like a laser, and others that dropped two feet by 50 yards. Some of the bullets would spin in the casing. Those were probably the really slow ones. A second test, maybe more limited, with a rifle might be a good idea. Mainly just to see the difference in expansion in gel.
