If someone isn’t comfortable with anything bigger then the 22lr, then I say carry it. Any caliber is better then not having one at all. Not sure why people with bigger calibers cut down on those who carry the 22lr, need to lift other shooters up, bringing down other shooters just leaves more room for anti groups to bring us all down. Carry what you are comfortable with, good shooting and gods speed to KP family and fans. 🎥💪🏽💯👍🙏🏻

I built/assembled 3 pistol caliber carbine type firearms for my wife for home defense. She is petite, not very tough, kind of mouse like. But at the range, firing .22 caliber guns didn't scare her as much. For home defense, it gave her short length firearms that she can hold with 2 hands, lightweight, virtually no recoil, and 25 round magazines. Consider this approach for your wife or kids. The sound is manageable, and low recoil means they stay on target easier and faster. And with 25 rounds, she is trained to fire several rounds to stop the threat. And if there are multiple intruders, she will have enough rounds to serve them all up a plate of justice. By now the gun community hopefully has shushed the macho exaggerating fools who say the .22 doesn't kill, or bounces around, or doesn't go through clothes. None of these people would volunteer to test those theories. Fact is, especially in a PCC, high velocity .22lr is going to penetrate, expand, and most likely stop someone immediately. Just the sound of being fired on makes 99% of intruders retreat. And if my wife has fire 10 rounds of .22, I have no doubt that will stop them. If not, well then a .38 or a 9mm wasn't going to stop them either. Its an affordable round, cheaper to practice with, and practice is one huge step towards better defense.

Whatever works man. I don't care what caliber you use as long as it keeps your family safe its all that matters. We are hillbillies lol. My wife shoots 45-70, 454 Casull, a 50AE, shotguns with 3" magnums. My son shoots his own deer with a .243. He hunts turkey and small game with a 20ga and I have him on video on this channel doing mag dumps with an AR when he was six. I would just say train with it, be able to clear a malfunction , and don't worry about what the gun community says. Thanks for watching. God bless you and yours :-)

@@TheKentuckyPatriot I am old and have lots of arthritis now and have been stepping down in calibers as I age. At this point my prefered gun is a S&W 380 EZ, but maybe in a few years I might end up depending on a 22. A 22 doesn't have the energy to create much of a shockwave cavity in tissue like a larger caliber so placement becomes more critical, and it may take more than a couple of rounds to deter a home invader. Truth is most folks will lose their motivation once they get hit, though some may just get more aggressive and since the 22 LR lacks the kind of stopping power of larger calibers it may require multiple rounds to stop them, so having a very reliable gun and reliable ammo can make all the difference.

In my youth, there was a story in the local newspaper about a family in our neighborhood, in which someone was killed by an accidental discharge from a .22lr rifle in the home. It turned out that I knew this family through my church. One day I was visiting their home, and I saw the hole in the bedroom door made by the .22 bullet in the middle of its trajectory from muzzle to victim. I asked, and my host confirmed that this was indeed the hole left by the bullet that day. Mind you, this was an older home with solid wood doors, not modern hollow ones. That a single .22 round could be fatal, even when not carefully aimed and after passing through a solid wood door, made quite an impression on me. Then there's the case of the world record largest grizzly bear being killed by a single round from a .22lr. Now, that round was carefully, expertly placed... but, even so!

I don't know why people use that same quote to defend the .22lr. No one will stand in front of it the same way they would not volunteer to stand in front of scissors, knives, fire crackers, bricks, stone, bats, etc. A better explanation of the effectiveness of .22lr would be the following scenario. If you were captured by the enemy and they gave you the option to shoot you in the head with a .22lr or a 9mm from 7 yards away, and you had no other choice or say in the decision, which will you plead for them to use?

@@joer8386 excellent rebuttal and 100% true. I have made fun of the imbeciles who promote using .22LR as a defense weapon. Simply dumb AF! Yes, better than a sharp stick but not better than a .380, 9mm, .38, .357, .44, .40, .45, ….for gods sake even the ..22mag is significantly better. Why would anyone choose the .22LR. Why?????!
@joer8386
@joer8386 4 ай бұрын
@@number4777. Another thing I hate defenders of the 22lr keep saying is that more people die from 22lr.... BUT, they keep out important information about that statistic. 1) They do not mention the length of time it took for that person to die. Yes, you can die from a 22lr, but it is usually after a long time before you bleed out. A criminal will have plenty of time to cause a lot of damage against you before he succumbs to that bullet. 2) They also fail to mention that because the 22LR is low-cost, everyone has it, especially in poorer neighborhoods where people can't afford more expensive ammo. There is a reason that more crime is committed with the 22LR: It is cheaper to use compared to other ammo. I would not risk my life depending on that calibre to defend me. I will stick to stronger ammo. I even have a .380 as a backup gun using Lehigh defense ammo because it has controllable recoil but a lot more power than a 22lr. That ammo will go through a lot. Especially in the winter months.

Good video. Granted, a .380 or 9mm would be a better all-around EDC round, but the low recoil of a .22lr will allow you to stay "on target" without having to take that split second to re-acquire for follow-up shots. And besides, I've heard it said that "Any gun is better than no gun!".

The main factor with 22 is penetration. Forget expansion as a significant factor from a handgun. The 22 is a burst fire round, and can seriously injure or kill. Most of these ballistic models don’t factor in the bullet ricocheting off ribs and pelvic bones , creating more damage than expansion would.
@TheKentuckyPatriot

Nice video. Thank you. The .22lr is very under rated, even in a short barrel. Back in the 80's I dispatched a feral dog with a double tap with a .22 Beretta Bob Cat. I believe it was using cheap hollow points. One thing I've found after 50+ years of shooting .22's is that hollow point expansion is somewhat "ify" with most brands, regardless of barrel lenght. I do carry a .22 lr pocket pistol or a pair of .22mag minis for edc often. They have bailed me out of a few bad situations over the years..

I agree 💯. Many years ago, Mom stopped a guy trying to break into our house. She used a Marlin model 39- 22 caliber. I was 7 at the time. Dad had just bought the rifle from one of his brothers. Paid $20 for it. He gave it to me as my 1st gun. Mom liked shooting it too. Anyway, Dad was working late one night. A guy tried to break in through a window in my bedroom. Mom heard the noise and came running with a hammer. Mom swung the hammer at his arm that was coming through. She grabbed me up and grabbed the Marlin. He then started trying to get in through our locked back door. Mom hollered "I have a gun and I'll shoot !". He ignored her warning and continued to try to break in. Mom fired a shot dead center through the door. We don't know if he was hit or not, but he quickly left. We ran next door to a neighbor that had a phone and called the cops. Mom told them the story when they arrived and showed them the bullet hole in our door. The cop looked at it and said "Good job. If they come back, do it again!". I'm 58 now- and I still have that ole rifle.

Im in the same boat with ya. I understand that both semi auto loaders and revolvers can have issues, for some reason though, I'd still rather take my chances of not having enough rounds,that will go boom, then to have plenty of rounds worth booming but wont because of a jam, limp wrist, mag fail, mag fall out etc. and even if the mag gets lost only few auto's will let you shoot singles with no mag. That mag safety is just stupid if ya ask me.

Tested with 2" barrel at 1070 fps, 29 grain bullet! Which gives it a total energy of 73 ft\lbs, even at 1300 fps its only like 108 ft\lbs, that was out of a 6" barrel, which is not very good. And who carries a 6" barrel 22? If i was gonna carry something that size i would just grab my 1911 gov. I've seen the tests & I have been carrying Punch also but reconsidering being there is a lot more powerful rounds for a 22 easily available. It has fair penetration but doesn't expand either. 73 is almost laughable when you consider its literally the weakest 22 round by far; even from pistols. Too each his own though, just stating some facts. I have also found it more reliable than some other types of ammo & that definitely counts for something.

A couple observations: 22 pistols tend to be fussy about the ammo that will reliably feed, fire and eject. It does not matter how well it did in a test like this if it is unreliable in your pistol. I would suggest shooting a full box through your pistol before deciding to rely upon that ammo. Second, the velocities on the label are in a rifle. The fastest ammo I found was Browning BPR. It was about 200 fps faster than the 40 gr mini-mag, although both showed the same speed on the label. The BPR was optimized for a rifle because when I tested the ammo in a pistol, the BPR was 150fps slower than the other brands.

Good video. It looks like it took a lot of work on your part to run this test. Suggestion - you may want to use a magic marker to keep track of your shots. I’m glad to see the CCI mini mag hollow point worked out. It’s what I use in my EDC. I switched from a 9 mm compact with a 3 inch barrel to a a 22 lr for EDC. The recoil on the 9 mm was too “snappy”, the slide was miserable to rack, and ammo too expensive. Not a fun gun to shoot. Your video reinforced my decision to switch as I train more with the 22.

i shot 380 version of the P365, recoil was better than 9mm. but ammo is more expensive. and i don't think the recoil spring felt much different than the 9mm version. an option to think about for people who want the concealment and capacity of these 9mm micro-compacts but don't like the recoil. i also tried the recent LCP Max, a little more comfortable than the LCP II 380 with the slightly larger grip. but still fairly jumpy and my palm aches after a trip to the range, with the unchanged weight of the gun.

You did great job here. Wish you could get your hands onto the Accurizer by Paco Kelly - a well machined simple device that enlarged the hole on a hollowpoint 22 bullet. He also had it to expand the bullet so to better seal off and block gases from blowing by the bullet in the chamber, for greatly enhanced power and accuracy from a little 22 bullet from the Cricket 22 single shot rifle. Another version of his tool cut the front off flat of both 22LR and 22 magnum ammo, essentially turning it into a wadcutter and this also greatly enhanced the wallop on wild game meat targets far better than the original round-nose bullets. We already knew this from our retired cop friends of long ago who preferred wadcutters in their 38 Special revolvers over standard issue round-nose bullets. Whenever doing anything to modify a live round bullet in any manner one must realize this can be very dangerous if done wrong. Paco Kelly’s device was designed for safety but a person could still do it with too much force and cause a round to possibly go off. His last device that he made and sold was the simplest: A strongly built brass unit that held the bullet safely so the rim would not be disturbed and then the top rounded part of the bullet cut off so it was flat on top. This one worked like a charm and reminds us of how Federal Punch ammo 22 bullet is shaped at the tip. Buffalo Outdoors channel with Jason (another KY good ole country boy) did great videos on this. Check his channel out.

The .22lr is fine to carry. If you feel you can handle a slightly higher caliber, you could get a convertible bore revolver that allows you to fire .22 mag. The ammo is a little more expensive, but the recoil isn’t much greater, and it will penetrate a little deeper. If you’re practicing or plinking, .22lr is fine. If you’re carrying for self defense, the .22 mag is a little more effective, but .22lr will do the job. Also, if you are a new shooter, the revolver eliminates the worry of your gun jamming when you need it. If you get a misfire, you can move right on to the next chamber without having to stop to clear a jam, and that can be critical in a hot situation. I’d advise a revolver for anyone just starting out, or anyone who has trouble racking a slide because of arthritis or health problems. If you do choose a semi-auto, don’t get a discount brand. The price may be attractive on some of the cheaper ones, but a lot of the cheap ones can be prone to jamming. If the only one you can afford is a cheap one, at least make sure your ammo is top quality, CCI is usually a decent brand. Some of the lower cost ammunition can have more blowback, foul up your gun quicker, or misfire, especially in semi-autos. Practice is key to discovering which ammo is best for your gun.

Oh, that .22LR is a favourite of the Mossad . It's probably not as appreciated in the US because y'all love big calibres and have the the opportunity to indulge yourselves. It's plenty potent enough at close ranges. The argument that's extended is, expansion isn't really a factor when one's putting three four five rounds into a target at eight feet or less . But expansion sure doesn't hurt. And good shooting. Dogs like you. That's always a good sign. How's the little one doing? Haven't seen her in a while. Well, have a great weekend ahead. Cheers!

@@TheKentuckyPatriot my favorite are actually velocitors a little heavier... Then stingers also I love Remington yellow jackets.... I carry these back in the 1990s when I used to carry a 22 American arms (not north American arms) px.22 for self-defense...(originally made by Iver Johnson looks like a wather..ppk shrunk down) .. very accurate and reliable.. I used to stagger stingers and yellow jackets in the magazine...

I was considering a new 22 pistol. This does help me consider the efficacy of 22lr versus 9mm or 380, which I already have. The good thing, either way, I live in a very low-crime area.

My answer to people joking about 22lr: Every gel-test all over KZfaq shows 12in to 18in penetration. These little bullet thingies are almost 1/4 diameter, and they rip a hole that is bigger than that, with a path of jagged edges. You want me to stick a 16 inch long, 1/4 inch diameter Philips screwdriver, that's been wrapped with a strand of barb-wire, into your body right up to the handle?

That Norma Tac 22 has a really thin case. It works best in bolt action target rifles and revolvers I have had them stick in the chamber of several semi autos. I think the thin case expands and sticks in the chamber.

For some reason they do fine in my pistol and in a single shot but I have a mag fed .22 and it don't like the norma rounds at all. It is funny some ammo works better in some guns than it does others. Thanks for watching :-)

Thank you for the hard work on this video, and for making the info clear and usable. I carry a 22 because of a neurological difficulty, but I'm accurate with it. I use the same pistol you used here, and I'll be trying the CCI definitely. I used the CCI in a Ruger Mark IV, but that is a long and heavy gun to carry. In the M&P 22 Compact, Winchester 36 HP had quite a few jams. I wonder how the Velocitor work vs the MiniMags? Thanks again.

Many of the bulk type boxing of 22LRs like the Remington 36 Grain Hollow Point Golden Bullets or the Browning 36 Grain Hollow Points are less reliable but so far out of about 1000 rounds using both one misfire ( didn't look to see which one it was though ) in my semi auto pistols. CCI packaging separating the rounds in their boxes tells you they will be more reliable but more expensive ! If my life is in danger I'm going with CCI in a revolver for my CCW. Just my thoughts on the ammo.

Generally I would avoid any rimfire for defense because they don’t always go off. Inherent flaw in rimfire priming design. If used anyway use a revolver so malfunction can be bypassed by simply pulling the trigger again. Paul Harrell did a video on this and I personally have had it happen at a critical moment. Centerfire much more reliable that way. Appreciate what you do!

I agree! I was not at all recommending a .22 or rimfire of any kind for self defense. I was just testing the rounds. Thanks for watching. I wish you and yours the very best in the New Year!! :-)
