Just bought one of the 36v Augers (as I've already got loads of 18v tools/batteries), based on this video/review, and it works a treat. I'm using it mainly in ground that's a mix of topsoil, clay and a little bit of stone (mainly 40-50mm chunks), and no issues so far, but I've only used it for about 20 holes so far for fence posts. I've been using 100mm and 200mm twin blade auger bits, although I initially had to use a single blade auger bit (because the auger bits got lost by the carrier), and the twin blade/spiral ones are so much better.

It is. I’m a plumber and have used all three: Milwaukee, makita40v XGT, and makita 36v. The 36 doesn’t compare to speed and power over the course of a 8 hour day of drilling with the 40v XGT. 36 v needs to go on the shelf as a dinosaur antique

@@Benjieboy1993 Chief, you're saying that on a channel that has proven that the XGT is a very, very slight upgrade over the 36V LXT. You gain 50-100RPM, rafterhook/lanyard loop, and you can step up to an 8Ah capacity (vs 6Ah on the 36V), but the XGT bare costs as much as the LXT x2 as a kit.

You can't use the newer one as a drill, otherwise, they are the same. Only other difference is the auger adaptor can fall out of the chuck potentially, but at least if it gets worn or damaged it is easily replaced. Personally, the advantage of being able to use one as a drill is the winning point.
