Spawn, the anti hero granted powers after striking a deal with the demon Malebolgia so he could see his wife one last time after his untimely death. We’re all familiar with Albert Simmons in the role as Spawn, but did you know there are other versions of this character out there? What's going on all you nerdy folk out there, my name is Jack and today we’re going to be talking about everyone’s favourite undead antihero; Spawn and some of his alternate versions we have seen throughout the years. I'm truly surprised that you didn't include Daniel Llanso. His arc was really well done and the world was post-apocalyptic whilst being extremely brutal. The art in Curse of Spawn was fairly unique as well.

IIRC there is - or at least was - a crossover between Medieval Spawn (not John of York) and Witchblade.

Dark Age Spawn was mentioned in the animated series for HBO, Cogliostro tells Al his story in the season that he was the Black Knight and would later discover a way to free himself from his role as a Hell Spawn by using magic. That time he was referred as Merlin.

God, I remember my mom getting my a Dark Age Spawn cake when I was 14. The toy was one of those super sturdy types and only met it's match when our house burned down 11 years later.

The story line with Armageddon and Al getting god-like powers was my introduction into the Spawn comics. I loved the design for the Four Horsemen! Also I hope that Hollywood has the guts to reboot Spawn and give that movie another try. With modern technology it could be marvelous!

When it comes to Dark ages Spawn that you asked about. His story is similar to that of Dante Alghieri (Dante's Inferno). He was a Nobleman who believed he did Gods work for the church but found out otherwise. When he returned to earth, Cogliostro gave him some tutorship. He tried to reclaim his land and protect his people from a grief stricken king, who oppressed them for his dying wife. He succeeded, but found it meaningless. He spent the rest of his days wandering the countryside.

Special effects technology just wasn't advanced enough in the 1990's to do justice to Spawn in live action.

What about the Ipsissimus ( Spawn/WildC.A.T.s crossover)? It reads like the Omega Spawn arc, but with Simmons conquering everything on his own.

Covenant or dark ages spawn died during the crusades. I loved that version so much. A goo one you need to talk about is godslayer spawn. A series which was sadly cut short due to lackluster sales, but it was awesome and the art was super badass. In the curse of the hellspawn there are 2 versions that stand out 1 in "dark myth" sets in the greek mythology and another set in the future where Daniel Ilanso makes a deal with the demon Flegetonrhia. In this version the world is overrun with demons... is quite good

Well I guess a new character needs only twenty or thirty years to get many different versions of themselves. I guess were going to have to wait that long to see different versions of Punchline, The Batman Who Laughs, Ms. Marvel, And so on and so forth. Can't wait.

I managed to watch part 1 of the SPAWN HBO series on KZfaq. It's unfortunate that the series was short-lived. I was enjoying the series so far. I couldn't watch the other parts because of copyright

His reliance on guns in the 97 movie was due to his ex profession when human and basic instinct to try follow that path again . He was basically larvae and had very little control of his powers 😉

Dark Age Spawn's Lord Covenant fought in the crusade killing a lot of people then eventually being killed himself. Much like Al Simmons he wanted to see his wife again and made a deal

Alright so I don't want to be that guy but the reason Al Simmons used gun so much in the movie is because he didn't know how to use his powers they didn't know what he was capable of so he was just using what he knew how to use

The Spawn movie doesn't get enough love. The story is good, relevant, and the characters' actors do a good job portraying them. The graphics might not be the best considering how old it is, but they might not have had alot of money to deal with either. I bet if they make another Spawn movie it would make people want to turn the whole comic series into an anime or something that covers the whole story. (The animated series cut off right after Spawn got Wanda pregnant and that was a disappointment to me). I would have never got into the Spawn series without the movie

Yeah the movie wasn't great but they had a great cast and thus my final online nickname was born, John Leguiziamo as Violator was perfect :D. I have the collectors edition DVD and boxes full of comics. My favorite anti hero alongside Batman.

while the movie has certainly not aged well (especially it's cgi), for the time it was still a good spawn adaptation. i actually like it for the most part. i'm anticipating what the new movie will be like. anybody else want Keith David to do his voice again!?
