I love how most of the motives for the villains on this list are understandable! I mean all of these particular animated movie villains were either mistreated, traumatized or abandoned to the breaking point. So yeah depending on the villain their motives for becoming evil are understandable.

After being repeatedly relocated and left behind due to penguins being more loved, he despised their entire species to the point of wiping them out completely. “I came to realise sone creatures are born to get _all_ the love, the rest of us get *NOTHING!”*

The motive for Aggie descending into villainy is heartbreaking. She was only a little girl who was misunderstood by everyone around her, but Norman helps her to come to peace.

The fact they made Spot an actual credible threat when he starts out as an absolute dork is impressive

Spinel’s backstory is so tremendously heartbreaking especially since she’s been standing in the garden way way before Steven Universe even premiered but I’m glad Steven was able to help her and she was taken in by blue Diamond and others

'Revenge is a sucker's game' -David Xanatos Zira from Lion King 2 got her entire family involved in her long-held grudge over Scar's death. Even the worst king can have a few hangers-on, particularly a lioness he had cubs with. Reminds me of a certain other female Gargoyles villain...

Lotso Huggin Bear from Toy Story 3. He was once a favorite toy to his kid a little girl named Daisy, after being left behind he went off to find her and then when he made it back home, he was devastated and brokenhearted to find that he’d been replaced by another purple teddy bear. After that he found himself in Sunnyside Daycare, so he made an attempt to rig the system and seek revenge on all toys at the Daycare. “Listen up folks we got a way of doing things here at Sunnyside. If you start at the bottom, pay your dues life here can be a dream come true but if you break our rules, step out a line, try to check out early well, you’re just hurting yourself”

Where is Scar? He was jealous of his nephew Simba becoming the king, so he killed his father as a revenge and told to Simba to run away.

Morag in The Loud House Movie also wanted revenge on the Louds. Despite it not exactly beloved by fans, she’s not only a groundskeeper like Angus, but also a sorcerer with a magic dragon stone. She tricks the Louds with the staff and almost succeeds at becoming a duchess.

What about Lord Shen from Kung Fu Panda 2? He wanted revenge for his banishment by his parents.

One thing that makes the live action Maleficent interesting, strange, but interesting, is how they make it darker but with some changes. King Stefan is the real villain, Maleficent only seeks revenge because he drugs and assaults her in order to become king since he is an orphan and has no other link to the throne, choosing power over love. He doesn’t even show relief that his daughter is still alive after sixteen years. Maleficent does a better job at raising Aurora than the fairies do! Also in the sequel, Maleficent has to fight Aurora’s mother in law when she forms a genocide against magical creatures. She can’t win even if she tries to be good

Spot literally has no one to blame for what happened to him but himself. HE'S the one who chose to get some extra dark matter during the Spiders fight against the villains while all the other employees did the smart thing by RUNNING AWAY. If he hadn't CHOSEN to stay behind, that wouldn’t have happened to him. He literally is the architect of his own suffering and he's just taking it out on Miles because he's one of those people who have the mindset of "it's never my fault". It's the only thing about Spiderverse Spot I hate

He was once a goofy cameraman for Metro City’s news reporter Roxanne Ritchi and was in love with her so after being granted with incredible superpowers he was sure to get the girl of his dreams but Roxanne rejected him and went out with Megamind disguised as Bernard. So he went on being a villain and swore vengeance on both Megamind and Roxanne. “ You’re so naïve Roxy you see the good in people even when it’s not there you’re living in a fantasy there is Easter Bunny there is no tooth fairy and there is no Queen of England. This is the real world and you need to wake up.

An honorable mention of mine is Lord Shen from Kung Fu Panda 2. He’s a spoiled but terrifying prince who massacred an entire panda village to prevent his destiny from coming true but was banished because of it. Feeling betrayed by his parents’ banishment, he spent his entire life getting revenge by increasing his army and finishing his invention, the cannon, and conquers Gongman City and tries to forget about his parents and fill the hole in his heart with pleasureable things like glory and material possessions

Zeus did NOT sentence Hades to rule the underworld. Zeus, Hades and Poseidon drew lots to determine who would rule over what domain. Hades just happened to draw the underworld just as Poseidon received the ocean. Honestly, had Hades simply left Hercules alone at first, Hercules wouldn’t have had all the necessary training and experience to fight the Titans in the first place. You often fulfill your own destiny on the path you seek to avoid said outcome. This is actually what happens with Oedipus Rex. His father, Laius, heard a prophecy of how his son was supposed to kill him and he had Oedipus chained to die in a forest with the shackles chained through his ankle. A kindly farmer rescued, named and raised Oedipus. Oedipus then heard the same prophecy that his birth father had and ran away from the farmer who raised him to keep him safe, not realizing that he was adopted by the farmer. During his travels, Oedipus comes to a crossroads where a carriage attempts to drive him off the road. When there is a conflict between the man in the carriage, who turns out to be Laius, and Oedipus, the latter ends up killing the former. Buddy is clearly a genius inventor but he doesn’t once ask the question of why Mr. Incredible was telling him to go home. Buddy was a kid. Hero work is dangerous and there were fully grown, trained and experienced adults with powers who STILL died in the line of duty, mostly because of capes, which is not only how Syndrome died, but most likely also how the supers were forced into hiding in the first place. Remember, Bomb Voyage attached a bomb to Buddy’s cape which caused the huge accident that was the biggest contributor to the supers going into hiding. Screenslaver should have been seeking vengeance on Syndrome, because he was the main cause of her parents’ deaths. Edgar’s so called revenge was shortsighted. In case anyone else has forgotten, CATS CANNOT USE MONEY. All Edgar would have needed to do was take care of the cats for the rest of their lives and he would have been set. I mean he clearly liked handling them if his initial interactions with them were anything to go by.
