They should have left in the scene from licence to kill as that explains how bond gets his gun around the world on assignments

In Goldeneye for example, Bond just pulls his pistol from a pocket inside his jacket when Jack is being a smart ass and in a lot of other Bond movies, Bond pulls his handgun from the same pocket so I always assumed his pocket is shielded so he can bring his pistol where ever.

5:32 Fun Fact: Timothy Dalton was actually the first person to drop an F-Bomb in a Bond film. When Kara is driving onto the plane in 'The Living Daylights', he mutters a "Fucking Hell" (or something like that). Sadly, the roar of the plane's engines and the thickness of the plane windows means his words are inaudible. So does that render it invalid? Perhaps.

I agree that the hotel room scene in LTK shouldn't have been cut. Dalton's my favorite Bond and that's a great scene, but the scene where Bond and Sgarky go spying on the wavekrest could've answered a few plot holes in LTK. First it tells how Krest's men found and killed Sharkey (Sharkey's boat was spying on them) and since Bond had a hat on (I know, this is a stretch) that's why Krest didn't identify Bond to Sanchez. Great vid, Calvin!
@BenCol9 жыл бұрын
An unexpected but still very well made and enjoyable list! There's a deleted scene from 'Licence to Kill' where Bond and Pam are at the airport, where Pam introduces us to the characters of Truman-Lodge and Heller. I think it would have been better to include the scene as, when the characters are then brought up, we have no idea who they are and it hurts the film. I think that little bit of exposition couldn't have hurt. Also, it features the MI6 guy in the background and allows for some suspense. Although I kinda like the AVTAK police station scene. I love how Bond still has Red Grant's garrotte watch from FRWL and Moore even says "From Russia, with Love." I think it adds a nice bit of continuity.

@davidjames5794 жыл бұрын
I found the MI6 guy's appearance at the airport a little confusing, as he's stood out in the open staring at Bond and Pam, and it seems like Bond notices him/catches his glance, but carries on, suggesting he knows MI6 are observing him.

Totally agree with you on Gupta. Why the hell did the director go through the trouble of getting Ricky Jay if in the end he wouldn't showcase precisely what he hired him for. Would have given the character more character as you say. That said, the extended scene where M briefs Bond in the limo contains a few lines which would have given Carver more depth. That should have been left untouched.

One top 10 I would like to see is the best scenes that aren't focused on Bond, where someone else is in the spotlight, could be one of the Bond girls, M or Q or maybe even John W. Pepper.

I actually really like Stamper, the way he's so upset about Kaufman dying considering he was his protege is hilarious, and then when he does everything he can to avenge Carver and the rest in his final confrontation is hilarious too. And I don't think the card throwing would have fixed Gupta. He was boring in the actual film, and the deleted scenes would have made him too gimmicky rather than boring. Give him a personality like Boris as opposed to a gimmick.

I agree about your 80% on deleted scenes. I'm a music addict (classic/progressive rock mainly), and I was way over the moon when older albums were starting to come out compact disc. A vinyl record can get you a couple of minutes over 40, but a CD can handle up to 74 minutes. So I was thrilled to get my fave music in a clearer and cleaner sounding format with new music added! Well, there's a reason why directors shoot way more than what is needed. It's the same reason why bands record more music than what is needed. I listened to a lot of this from my fave bands and came across no songs that should replace anything from the original album releases. In general, they are all highly paid professionals (actors / musicians / directors / producers / engineers / mixers, etc...). They know what they are doing or they wouldn't have lasted in their highly paid but highly risky careers.

I certainly agree to your point that it was for the best that it was left on the cutting room floor, the pace of that beautiful opening would have been absolutely destroyed by it. It's a bit like putting the French plantation scene into Apocalypse Now Redux, it completely destroys the pacing and as fine a scene as it is out of context, when viewed in context as it would be when its included, it only drags the overall quality down.

@rossscharphorn87715 жыл бұрын
I think the most crucial deleted scene (albeit relegated to your non-released footage mention) would have been the scene directly following the casino scene in The World Is Not Enough. Bond has been ordered by M specifically not to sleep with Elektra and Bond tells her “This is a game I can’t afford to play” and then Boom, they cut to them in bed together... wtf?! I think it was absolutely essential to the plot to include a cool “Dr. No/Tomorrow Never Dies/Casino Royale esq” scene of Bond sitting alone in the dark in Elektra’s mansion with his suppressed Walther P99 waiting to see what freaky assassin Reynard is going to send to try and kill her, and she sneaks downstairs past Gabor and seduces Bond in a slinky night gown. To see Bond resist for a moment and then give in to Elektra’s superior seduction skills would have completely added to her character by showing that this was her “superpower” so to speak, and it would have sorted out what I consider to be the most glaring plot hole in that film! I think there actually is footage of it somewhere of them kissing on a staircase. Such a shame it was not added. Think the sex scene on the stairs in the Thomas Crown Affair. It would have been gold!

If the criterion is, which ones are essential for the film's integrity, the #1 must be Plenty, especially the bit where she comes back after being thrown out of the window, because that connects her to Tiffany. We the viewers can fill in the rest. Of the others, the best are the ones that add colour to the movie, such as your #1 Gupta and the one where Bond watches Sanchez on TV while using Leighter's lighter. My favorite of the lot is Bond being released from the Paris police. I would have left out the Pantherish burning of eyebrows but kept in the part where he signs with acid and the page burns as he leaves, a nice touch.

I whole-heartedly agree that the cutting of the hotel room scene of Bond in "Licence to Kill" is an absolute loss to the overall film. I think that what it does is gives us as the audience an even greater sense of what type - of individual Bond has pitted himself against: a man who wields celebrity as well as just his viciousness and his narcotics empire. Sanchez was supposed to have been such a strongman of this fictionalized Central / South American country, one man with such undisputed power with his hands in literally everything but, other than one scene whereas we see him paying off the President, I never truly got that sense in the film that he was. This scene restores that. Additionally, such a scene also gives us an opportunity to be reminded of Felix ' s lighter and furthermore bring it on home as to what Bond was attempting to accomplish and against whom this time on Sanchez ' s own turf. It was a perfect scene for Dalton's Bond; the angry glare, the smoking and drinking and the cocking of his PPK were all perfect. I think all of "Licence to Kill's" deleted scenes should have remained. Throughout the ensuing years, I always thought that there were several plot holes in the film that I learned had some answers in the deleted scenes.

There were no scenes of Plenty actually going to Tiffany's home. When Plenty returns to Bond's room, there would have been an insert shot of Tiffany's driver's license (with her home address) in Plenty's hand. Then, later, when Plenty is found in the pool, Connery's line about her looking for Tiffany was supposed to fill in the gaps for the audience. My guess is that even this Plenty/Tiffany connection was seen (rightfully) as convoluted and tenuous so it was decided to simply let Connery's piece of dialogue stand as the vague explanation of the whole thing and move on.

You're in for a treat when you read TLD. I agree with most of your points in the vid. The cricket footage looks OK and adds to the pre-credit story, but I agree that it was right to remove it in favour of the sparser edit, one of the best sequences in a Bond movie, IMO. I want a novella from Plenty's POV leading up to her demise! One thing about the DAF deleted scenes - for some reason, Connery really does look a bit old in them. Maybe that was part of the reason they were cut? Maybe they could have included the last couple of seconds of SDJ's scene in DAF. I feel like that about a few of these scenes - they could have used a couple of seconds rather than trash the lot. For example, the Dalton magic carpet ride might have been OK if it was just a few seconds long. Yeah, I like scene with Bond drinking in his room, and I agree that it has shades of Fleming. I always liked the deleted scene from LTK in which Lupe sneaks Bond out as he grips onto the side of a speed boat. I like that scene and it's a good example of Dalton doing his own stunts.

I enjoyed watching this video. The deleted scene in "Diamonds are Forever" shows that some plot holes aren't plot holes. Things can happen "off camera". Considering Plenty O'toole was thrown off a hotel balcony and missed being killed thanks to a chance landing in a pool jealosy seems the least likely motive for her to face Tiffany. A change for some payback seems a probable motive. It is an irony that a pool saved her and a pool killed her.

It's completely drowned out by the roar of the engine overhead but he clearly mouths the words 'What the fuck?' during the chase sequence in LALD. As a wee nipper I was so intrigued by this that I hunted down a second hand copy of the book to confirm that he did in fact say fuck. Very nice video.. i knew all the scenes yet, but it was very interesting hearing your opinion on them. You are very right, the scene with sanchez giving the interview and bond prepare for action IS very flemingesque.. what a shame they threw it out of the movie. And your also right about Gupta.. not that he interests me much, but i always found TND a little bit flat.. hmm dont know the right words.. to smooth..a little generic. Perhaps if the added (or in this case, not cut out) a few character scenes, or scenes wich showed us some "not important to the plot" stuff, i wouldnt feel that way...(or not that much) (Sry my bad english..)

Fascinating list. It was nice make some sense of Plenty O'Toole ending up in the pool. I'm always keen to hunt down deleted scenes, but disappointingly/surprisingly I'm sure a lot of theses are not on my bluray editions. WTF?

There is a deleted scene I saw on KZfaq from toward the end of Casino Royale just after Vesper leaves the hotel to take the money to Gettler. As they go to leave and Bond sees them exchange a glance, he jokingly says, "Old boyfriend of yours?" And after she leaves, Bond goes to the front desk and gets Gettler's name. Removing this scene makes the ending more confusing than it needs to be. It would have tied in the scene with the man on the dock with one eye covered who exchanges glances with Vesper (when she looks confused or worried or something). And it would have given more weight to the text message Bond sees on Vesper's phone from Gettler, just as he's discovering that she betrayed him. When I saw those few scenes--minus the deleted scene--I was confused, because I didn't know who the guy in the hat with one eye was. I didn't know--when viewing the text message simultaneously with Bond--that Gettler was the one-eyed man we (and Bond) saw earlier and therefore I didn't know that he was the person Vesper was meeting. To my knowledge, Gettler was never mentioned before--anywhere. Throw in the fact that his left eye is fucked-up--like another bad guy in the film--and it's more confusing. I'm not saying the viewer should immediately know the significance of the character when Vesper first sees him. (That's an intriguing little moment.) But things don't tie in together as neatly as they could. When Bond and the viewer see the text message for the first time, the impact could have been greater. As it is, Bond, having asked the hotel clerk who the man in the hat was, knows something very important that the audience doesn't. It's obvious that it's something critical, something dramatic, and something that we should know. The level of drama that it creates is diminished by the confusion it creates. And it made me think I'd missed something earlier. "Who the hell is Gettler?" "I don't remember seeing this guy in the hat before now." "What's up with the eye? Is it le Chiffre? Isn't he dead?"

The deleted scene I would most like to see is Blofeld's demise in Never Say Never Again where he supposedly gets killed by his cat!

Just wondering Calvin what you think about the unused gunbarrel for The Living Daylights?

I could never deal with the loss of Gupta's scenes. Some future henchman needs the same gimmick to make things right.

Why did you not mention the deleted oil field scene from The World Is Not Enough ? because it was a really good scene that added allot to Elektra King's character

It's certainly a shame that the Ricky Jay scenes were taken out. Perhaps if they were left in we may even have been able to play as a card throwing Gupta in "Nightfire".

The name's scene... deleted scene. The scene that I hope they dig out of the archives is Francisco "I Only Need One" Scaramanga firing a shot and missing, then reloading with a backup bullet stored in his belt buckle.

cockshield This is what I mean about it being curious which deleted scenes are deemed to be okay to release and others not... No idea why scenes like the one you mentioned haven't come out yet.

I don't know. I love that deleted scene where Mr. Wint kills Shady Tree.

Knox Morris I also kind of like the alternate version of them killing that dentist when Wint drops the scorpion in his mouth instead!
