The original Bond, James Bond was supposed to be funny because he's mocking Sylvia by throwing her, "Trench, Sylvia Trench" line back in her face. But Connery delivered it like a bad-ass and the rest is history. Casino Royale's might by my favorite. That scene was awesome.

I think what I like most about "the line" is that in Dr. No, it seems like Bond is originally just copying the delivery of "Ms...?" "Trench, Sylvia Trench" by introducing himself as "Bond, James Bond." I like to imagine that Bond liked that way of introducing himself and picked it up for regular use after that encounter. I also think that's what Terence Young meant by him thinking the scene is comical. Sylvia introduces herself in a rather distinctive manner, and Bond being the smarmy so-and-so he is, he'll take notice of that and use it as a means of leveling the playing field with her.

Regarding the comedy, I had read in the official Bond encyclopedia that Young mentioned that the delivery sparked a few laughs among the crew because Connery was suppose to say the line in a haze of cigarette smoke, but he got ahead of himself.

The Casino Royale one is so cool because it's the culmination of a drawn out scene that shows how badass and intimidating Craig's Bond is. There's so much more to it than just the line and it's delivery; it's how the shot that hits Mr White straight after the phone call makes you shit yourself, it's how Mr White has to crawl across the steps as the camera pans up and it's how Bond, instead of carrying a tiny toy pistol, is instead holding a full sized silenced MP5.

I think the Casino Royale delivery is the best one. There's something to really be said about how well coregraphed the final scene is, and the line delivery is the icing on the cake. The World is Not Enough's delivery is a close second, followed by the iconic Dr. No delivery. And I would've tossed out an honorable mention to Tomorrow Never Dies, it's the first time since the Connery era that Bond delivers the line without saying "My name is" or "The Name's".

Nice video, I agree with you for the most part. But I think that it may have been harsh to downgrade the Brosnan's line from The World is Not enough because of the accent. The ones I really hate are the Tomorrow Never Dies and Die Another Day ones. The pause after "The name's Bond" and the cuts to all the characters faces waiting patiently for 007 to finish "James Bond" just bugs me. It's as if Brosnan wants applause are saying it. I love the Spy Who Loved Me one where the guys is like "Yeah.... and?" Always makes me laugh and I reckon if someone had done that to Brosnan's Bond he would have started crying "But this is my moment!" Dr No is the best imo and the reason I love it is something not mentioned by you here, but the way he only says his name in that odd way is because he's copying Miss Trench. Sylvia Trench. It just makes it cooler.
