TOP 10 BEST CITIES TO SETTLE IN CANADA AS A NEW IMMIGRANT
So you've applied to come to Canada as a permanent resident but you don't know exactly where you should live. Everyone has heard of Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, but who knows if those are really great cities to start your new life. This list looks at big cities in Canada that are most accessible to new immigrants.
10. VANCOUVER, B.C.
The largest population centre in British Columbia, Vancouver is surrounded by water and has one of the mildest climates of all Canadian cities. Vancouver features a growing economy and a particularly diverse population. A popular destination for South Asian and Chinese immigrants, Vancouver offers the best of the best when it comes to outdoor living. An active cultural centre and a booming social spot, Vancouver is a gem on Canada’s west coast. Of the visible minority population in Vancouver, the most represented is the Chinese population (44%), followed by the South Asian (24%).
9. MARKHAM, ON
Markham is a suburb north of Toronto that is easily accessible from Toronto by transit or highway; it's right next door to Richmond Hill. Markham has a high volume of immigrant settlers, the largest portion of “visible minorities” identifying as Chinese (45%). The second largest population of visible minorities identify as South Asian (17.8%) followed by the Black community (2.9%). Although once known for being an agricultural community, Markham now boasts itself as the “hi-tech capital” of Canada.
8. SAANICH, B.C.
Saanich is the largest municipality in greater Victoria by area and boasts plenty of variety in landscape. The population of Saanich is as culturally diverse as its territory and for thousands of years has served as home to First Nations people. The largest “visible minority” population in Saanich identify as Chinese (33%) with the second largest identifying as South Asian (25%) followed by Filipinos (18%). Employment rates among the immigrant population in Saanich are high and household income is also high. Although crime has increased in the past four years, Saanich remains a relatively safe area to settle.

Situations change and this is just same old same old. Halifax with its five universities is a great place for young people to study first and stay after. So is Sydney Nova Scotia where Cape Breton University is successfully appealing to young people from the Indian Subcontinent. Canada has to be about more than Ontario & BC.

Great video!!! We live in a small city in the coast of Mexico and are planning to move to Canada. We’re still not sure whether we should get a student visa or apply to PNP. Is it possible to apply to different programs at the same time? Since we live in the coast I prefer a sunny and mild climate place so we’d like to move to BC. What city would you recommend? We’re looking for (1) very safe city (2) great schools (3) open and tolerant people for immigrants (4) good place to raise kids. I’ll appreciate your comments!

Halifax is the largest city in the Maritimes, so it's a regional hub. The transit out there is not as good as in some bigger cities, but if you're staying within the metro area I believe it's okay. Living expenses in Nova Scotia are significantly cheaper than elsewhere in the country, though Halifax would be the most expensive city in that province. Most provinces and some municipalities have a public support system for new immigrants, which can help with jobs and the like. If English is your first language, there would be far more options for that.

Thank you for the information. I plan to migrate to BC, but I've been getting much discouragement on how expensive it is there. What do you think? Is it that difficult to live there?
@immigroup
@immigroup 4 жыл бұрын
The cost of living in BC really depends upon where: Vancouver and Victoria are extremely expensive, two of the most expensive cities in the country, but there are other parts of the province where the housing costs are at least lower. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_in_British_Columbia I don't know for sure, but my guess would be that the closer you are to Vancouver, the more expensive your housing will be. On the other hand, the further away from Vancouver the more expensive other things may be (such as groceries, unless the food is local).

There are two ways you can think of this: where are the most total jobs or where are there more likely to be jobs? You might want to contact the provincial professional associations for your profession to see where your job is in demand. Canada has a number of fairly remote cities/towns where salaries for jobs go through the roof because few people want to work there.

We are promoting aircraft and aviation products made by Canada for few years now. As Canada is 20 hours away from Malaysia it is important for part of our team to be in Canada as the process of government of Malaysia to decide on their procurements which are around the corner. We are not familiar in which category of immigration we belong to in order to start with. We have the necessary business and travel visa to enter Canada. We are looking forward to be on an easy entry and recognized team by the Canadian Government although permanent resident is not necessarily needed. However we need to buy homes to live in Calgary AB while we are in Canada for long period of time as after the procurements we need to take care of after sales of those products. Please advice. I've always been fascinated with Canada, not as a land of opportunities but as a place where I could contribute as a creative. I feel too many move there with nothing to contribute while expecting a place that'll feed you and keep you happy while you only do your bare minimum. When the time comes where my endeavours are developed enough to take it to the international stage, Canada is my first priority.

@immigroup
@immigroup 4 жыл бұрын
I think the answer to 3 is the easiest: Montreal. You can get a PGWP anywhere provided you graduate. Each province has a different PNP, but if you are in a skilled job, you won't need a provincial nominee to get PR, necessarily, so you can just apply through the federal program. All three of those cities will have many opportunities for part time jobs. Rent is much lower in Montreal and pay is (probably) lower as well. In Montreal, French is an asset for much work, though, especially in any kind of customer service job.

New Brunswick is usually overlooked even by canadians. However, one thing many immigrants like to see is....other immigrants, it makes them feel safer. Moncton New Brunswick is now growing by leaps and bounds. Its better if you have some money to buy a house or build a house, because sadly rentals are facing hte same problem. In just the six years we've been here the number of grocery stores catering to immigrants has gone from almost zero to over a dozen, which is fantastic as I like international cuisine. There are jobs here as there is a labour shortage so wages have climbed faster here than elsewhere, mainly because they were always lower than elsewhere, I'm not going to lie to you. Sadly the cities in NB have pretty shitty public transit, but I"m an optimist, as more people take them, it can only improve. They are nice buses, just idiotic routes because of course the city planners never took a bus in their lives. I'm also not going to lie as there are racist pricks here like anywhere, and a homeless problem, but thats all across canada. There are numerous groups that attempt to help people settle and so if you like a 'small town feel' thats easily do able in NB. We live 20 minutes from the centre of the city but essentially are rural. Entrepreneurial types are welcome as one problem is that there often isn't that much to do here, but certainly for a refugee or somebody from an area where they've experienced a little TOO much excitement, its pretty ideal.

@@immigroup Yes !!! I grew up in New Brunswick and left at 19, New Brunswick is a very small population , although it is beautiful and scenic the winters can be insanely brutal . Our services businesses are minimal due to our dwindling population and small tax pool, I enjoyed Edmonton due to its sense of community, diversity and range of things to do . In a city like edmonton you have to choose what you want to do out of hundred of options, in New Brunswick it is rare that more than one community event is happening , Edmonton had a great blend of both parks and metropolis , New Brunswick is great for families and retirees, Edmonton would be awesome for someone young or someone who likes to go on adventures. New Brunswick also has an older population that sometimes doesn't receive immigrants as warm as we would hope, the older folks here don't have much experience with different culture and can seem white washed . all in all , they both can be great places, it would be stupid for me to say one is bad when they both have wonderful qualities. Hope this helps a little.

I cannot therefore rely on this video, it shows what it wants to show. Thanks. The Greater Toronto and Vancouver Areas are the areas with the most money flowing around, in terms of money. But it's likely that what you do is a rare enough skill set that there might be demand for what you do in a part of the country where there is less overall money. Where you live do you have a specific professional licensing body? My suggestion would be to identify some provinces where you want to live and contact the relevant licensing body to see if they can give you some ideas about the market, and where you might be needed.

Thank you for the information!! I am an architect and interior designer. Which city would be the best to move to?
@immigroup

For architecture you'll want to be in a city with lots of construction, I suppose, so the Greater Toronto or Vancouver Areas would probably be best. For interior design I think you'd want to go somewhere wealthier.
