THE SIDE NOTE (UPDATED) - Wow! Lots of comments directed at the channel because people don't like this list (despite the thumbnail, title and intro of the video being EXTREMELY clear that this list is from Consumer Reports...not us)! So, let's hear it....which ones did they get right and which ones did they get wrong? Is there a car that should have made the list? Everyone benefits from useful commentary and personal experiences so lets us know what you think!

Kia Telluride is a failed project. Recall after Recall. Fans can say what they want but the Highlander has proven its the superior vehicle by leaps and bounds. Consumer Reports has become a laughing Stock review program

I understand that the Nissan Leaf is a great EV until you go on a road trip and need to to find a Chademo charger. (Chademo is basically an obsolete standard.) The Chevrolet Bolt and Bolt EUV might be more practical choices, but are scheduled to end production soon.

@@dannyjeffbingham1627 Chevy Bolt was renewed and qualifies for the $7,500 credit. The downside (as with all electrics) is battery replacement cost. For the Bolt, it's about $17,000!

EV is still too new for my consideration. I like the concept but we need standards and better batteries. Not to mention charging stations everywhere.

I finally canceled my subscription to Consumer Reports after years of threatening to. My main interest was information on vehicles, but they are so biased that the information is seemingly deliberately misleading. For years their little description of the 5.3 liter V-8 GM engine said “sluggish”. What the hell does that mean. My 2014 GMC Denali Crew Cab has plenty of instant acceleration, and got over 20 mpg on a 4,000 mile road trip hauling 4 adults and the bed was jammed with luggage and supplies. Much of that trip included 80 mph Texas roads.

Lose the robot voice. It really doesn't get pronunciation and inflection right. You need a narrator who will pre-read the script to understand the writer's intended emphasis, inflection, and intonation. It's worth a few extra bucks to read it properly. The super corny scenes of human models are silly and distract from the message. I can't imagine CU put their stamp of approval on this. It comes off as a thinly-veiled infomercial for the car companies.

I generally don't respond to these types of critiques as I simply don't want to invest the time. However, I guess after 50 videos and millions of views my other viewers might appreciate me addressing criticisms such as this. I've used human narrators before, go back to my earlier videos and you'll hear them. Without any question, the process of using human narrators was the most challenging part of making the video. A good chunk of the problem was because of me. When I write scripts, I tend to make a lot of mistakes....I leave words out a lot and I tend to reuse the same word too often in a short period of time amongst other mistakes. I'd proofread my scripts over and over and then send them to the narrator. Inevitably, I get it back and I'd hear at least one noticeable mistake...most of the time because a mistake I missed in the script but sometimes it was their mistake. If it was my mistake, I'd pay to have them redo that section (after all, it wasn't their fault), other times I'd cut it out or do something to make it livable. Narrators aren't extremely expensive but it wasn't uncommon for me to spend more on the voice narrator than I'd make on the video (you won't see these videos on my channel as I turn my truly weak performing videos private after awhile). The bigger problem, however, isn't with the cost, it's with the turnaround time and availability. 4-5 days was standard as they want you to pay for 'expedited' service to get it quicker. When you are in the groove of making a video, waiting 4-5 days for the audio seems like an eternity. If you need them to fix anything (whether it's your mistakes that you are paying to fix or their mistake that they'll fix at no cost), it just adds more time. Despite all of this, I lived with it but then...all of sudden...my narrator guy who had a great voice inexplicably went offline all of a sudden and I had to find another narrator. Once you hear a narrator do YOUR video (instead of their previous work), you don't always think they're a great fit so you try another. It's time-consuming and just adds to your costs. Fortunately, my guy came back online after a few months and I started working with him again for awhile and then, out of the blue, he goes offline again, stating he won't be back for a year. This is when I found computer voice narration. Computer voice narration isn't perfect and you're right, pronunciation and inflection aren't perfect (but neither are all human narrators when reading scripts) but it can be cranked out immediately, you can hear it immediately and fix it immediately...and it's relatively affordable. The voices are getting better but aren't optimal for automotive videos because of the sometimes unusual vehicle names and brand names. If it wasn't for that, you'd probably never know you were listening to a computer. In fact, you are already hearing commercials using computer voices and you almost certainly don't even know it...the only reason I know it is because I recognize the voices from the service that I use. As for my videos being a 'thinly-veiled' informercial, I get what you are saying but I think you miss what the point of this channel is. We're not trying to be the next Doug DeMuro, Scotty Kilmer or Supercar Blondie. This channel is for people who want to see a variety of vehicles, inside and out and learn a few quick tidbits along the way. If they are in the market for a vehicle (most of them probably aren't), then some of these vehicles might make it on a shortlist for them. It's really that simple. The short clips of people doing silly things is just to breakup the video so that we're not just showing the car from one different angle to another endlessly. Maybe it's unnecessary but my our style and I'm sticking with it. This channel may not be for you and that's fine. One great thing about being a KZfaq creator is analytics...I get tons of information about each video including how many people watch it that previously watched one of our previous videos. Although this number isn't massive, it's noticeable. This channel is for those people, who like this type of content. It may not be for everyone but there's enough out there that keeps me going (more as a hobby than anything). I hope this answers your question and I hope others that see this comment will have a better understanding of our channel.

What is missing? Where is the dealer located? If a Subaru is the best car, and the dealer is 50 miles away, what good is that? And PHEV? Plug in? Then you have the cost of hooking up the proper electric source. You don't discuss some important things to consider when buying. We just bought the Mitsubishi Outlander SE/4 cyl with enough bells and whistles to satisfy us for safety. I keep reading they are under-powered. B.S. Ours is more than adequate for keeping up with traffic and/or passing. Besides, we don't need to be driving 90 mph like all the idiots out there. We can cruise at 70/we live in TX and that's fast enough for the open road. Around town, getting from 30 to 45 or 45 to 60 is not problem at all. So, when writing about SUV's. Keep in mind some factors other than hp. But more importantly, where is the dealer?

Never say Toyota a safe car. Just a joke coke can. There was an accident not long ago. A Mercedes and a Toyota. Mercedes escape after accident but Toyota just not lucky with 2 death and one seriously injured. Also, my wife had an accident years ago, our VW Tiguan head to head crashed with Toyota RAV4, We only had front bumper crack and a coin size dent on bonnet but RAV4 whole front gone and write off. The Insurance company just couldn't believe the big difference.
