2020 Episode 10: Top 10 Classic Gangster Films
For more than 80 years, the gangster genre has fascinated the minds of millions across the globe. The following is our list of the 10 best classic gangster films. Now, our definition of "classic" for this list is any film made prior to 1990, so movies like 'Goodfellas' and 'Miller’s Crossing' won’t be featured here, however, we’ll be making a list for those films next week, so make sure you hit the SUBSCRIBE button.

Once Upon a Time in America touched me like no other film ever has, or maybe ever will. De Niro’s performance is perfectly low-key and nuanced and Morricone’s score compliments the movie better than any soundtrack I’ve ever heard. I love The Godfather, but I’ll always have a more special love for Leone’s vast, brutal and emotionally compelling story. Masterpiece.

Love the long good Friday 'bricktop' is one of the gang. The untouchables was my first ever VHS purchase, great story but unfortunately none of the film happened the way it was depicted

I agree that I is ahead of II. Its driving Shakespearean plot simply nails the audience as almost no other film ever does. Mean Streets is a great film, but not really a gangster movie. It's more about life in Little Italy and to some extent the other little italies of New York: East Harlem, Arthur Avenue, Red Hook/South Brooklyn etc. I spent a great deal of time in those neighborhoods. They were unique places. Mostly all gone now.

What a puny top 10-list! It did not as much as MENTIONED "Lady in cement" , "Stateline Motel", "Loaded Guns", "Docteur Justice", "The red Circle", "The light touch", "The Yakuza", or "The Outfit"! And Get Carter, which should have been no. 1 on the list, is not even number 10, it's just mentioned as something between number 11 and 20! Had it been me who made this top 10-list, it would consist of the gangster-movies mentioned above!

the most artistic is once upon a time in america, scarface is the most brutal, the godfather have a hollywood ending.

Sorry for today's generation so called movie freaks who haven't seen most of these movies even though they might have heard of it. I know because my son and his friends (in their early 20s) called themselves movie addicts and knows every movie releases but not the classic ones!

As we mention at the start, this video is only looking at classic gangster films released prior to 1990. ‘Goodfellas’ was released in 1990 on the dot, we’ve got another list looking at modern gangster films which includes ‘Goodfellas’.
