The Bee Gees didn’t just walk off after Clive Anderson said didn’t remember a song. He kept making remarks such as “you’re hit makers… maybe just one letter short”, “my dog likes your music” and “you’ll always be tossers to me”. Clive also kept interrupting them to throw these insults. Barry Gibb went quiet about 5 minutes in and was obviously pissed off and the guy just didn’t stop. They almost didn’t do the interview at all but production told them Clive Anderson was a huge fan. I’m all for dark humor but the whole thing felt more mean spirited than some roasts I’ve seen and this was supposed to be a normal talk show interview.

RDJ tells interviewers before giving interviews that he will only speak about movies or events or whatever and not about his last issues or personal questions involving his relationships with people. If he chooses to bring it up then that's on his own accord, but he asks them to only speak about the movie. I would be pissed off as well.

Yeah but this in not America. In Europe the interviewee does not get to dictate the questions - that's the interviewer's job. If an actor wants to use a TV show to promote their movie that's acceptable, but the tradeoff is that they have to Do An Interview - i.e. answer the questions put to them. If they don't at least make an attempt to answer the questions they're seen as a freeloader - i.e. they want the interviewer to promote their product, but they refuse to give anything in return. Quid pro quo Clarice - quid pro quo.

@Reggie2000
@Reggie2000 3 жыл бұрын
Just watched it based on your comment. I think the host was simply trying to be funny, charming, caviler, and his humor, and to an extent, his British humor and demeanor, simply didn't translate. But I don't think he was trying to be rude. I don't think that was his intent. A problem is that Clive doesn't seem to have anything interesting to talk about, so he is trying to pump up an interview that has no where to go. And this Clive, who I am not super familiar with, has ONE, a very forceful personality. Very in your face, and it's not for everyone. Me included as well. TWO, He would do well to ask more interesting questions, and then STFU. He is so manic that it almost puts everyone including the viewer on edge. Hmm, yea, right, yea, sure, yea, sure, I need to always say something, yea, sure, hmm. It's like he is asking a question, and then trying to rush you through the answer, because he really doesn't care about the response at all. It's like he has 40 meaningless questions about the history of their lives, and feels the need to ram through the whole list in 10 minutes. And THREE, he likes to take their words and turn them into jokes, like you might do with a good friend, but there not friends. And worse, he turns the joke on them, and not himself. If he had done those same lame jokes, but made himself the butt of the joke, like a Conan O'Brien would do, then it might have worked out. BUT you can tell that Barry Gibb took the tosser comment way to much to heart and was stewing on that for quite some time as he brings it up. In Britain, it's really not a massive slur most of the time. It's far more casual then he might be used to.

In the UK there are rules that promotional interviews like this can't be purely promotional since that would constitute free advertising. Therefore there have to be questions about things other than the film itself. The stars all know this, however Krishnan does seem to have taken it upon himself to use these occasions to try to get deep into serious matters. It's a shame we no longer have true talk shows where people were willing to come on and talk at length about something other than what they wanted to promote, but it should be obvious that these press junkets are not the time to try and replicate that.

@@GorcStew correct. Tarantino got frustrated with repetitive questioning about violence in his films when Tarantino had already gone on the record about such matters in-depth in the past. @Rachel - But that's what Americans don't understand about Europe. In Europe, interviewers are not seen as advertising agents for a film. Their job is to reveal something about their interviewee that people don't already know. American actors often find this confusing, because they're used to American interviewers who are pretty much shills for the film industry. In Europe advertising of the movie is merely seen as the bait to get the celebrity in the chair and answering questions. And what's more, if they only want to talk about the product they're promoting, audience attitude will be, "Who does this entitled prima donna think he is? Answer the question he asked you!" Only in America is an interview seen as an advert.

@@michaelgove9349 The problem with the interviewer wasn't that he was asking questions. "Their job is to reveal somthing about their interviewee that people don't already know" yes but you see he's been asked these questions before and they are not fun questions. Just opening up old wounds. You obviously didn't understand what Rachel was trying to say. If they don't get what they were promised, they are allowed to leave. He went to an interview about the movie. So the questions should be about the movie. And sure they can ask personal questions from time to time but there's a limit. A limit I believe this man crossed with his insensitive question.

"Robert loves working Kristin, (then some romantic love affair twist)" "Robert doesn't really like working with Kristin (does this mean they hate eachother)?" No matter what he says, they increase their ratings and profit at the expense of both Robert and Kristin. At first I thought the same thing, until I realized if I were a PR manager, I would have never allowed someone to risk answering this just so they could continue to talk about him for 3 more weeks, spreading rumors and assumptions and gossip. There really is no way to win, especially when I'm sure they asked this question specifically knowing his PR manager wouldn't like it. The straw that broke the camels back was when they were questioned about a period of hiatus when one member had a hit single, another member mentioned that they also had a single and Clive said “I forgot that one”, after the same member had mentioned that their singles are “like their babies”. TheTruthiest You've obviously never been on either side of the interviewers chair. Interviews have agreed upon topics in advanced for the sake of the television program. You dont think its the least bit disrespectful for the interviewer to ignore the topic and trie to put the interviewee on blast. Yeah what a great guy. But im sure you yourself are a perfect angel thats never done anything wrong in your pathetic life you wish to forget or just go one day with out being harrased about. Thats what most interviews have turned into. Slam the person who agreed to show up for a polite conversation. That's what sells. RDJ has gone to many events for kids dressed like Ironman/Tony Stark just for the sake of the kids. You think Actors act like gods. True of any group whos rich. Some do. Some dont. Are you a football fan? Or any other professional sport for that matter? Bc they are just severly over paid slaves that only do what thier told to do but make more in one game then average people will see thier whole lives. Yet i bet your willing to cut them slack for drunkin drivers, druggies, rapest and molestors bc they play a little boys game that your fat ass likes to sit on a couch and watch from a thousand miles away. I hear more about actors like Chris Evans, RDJ, and Johnny Depp going and doing good things like vist cancer wards, sick kids donations and charity events dressed up as characters they've played. Making sick people feel special for just one small moment of thier lives and giving them one good thing to remember then you will ever hear about a sports player doing so. They are the most self indulged POSs on earth! Or how about a rich person or CEO. Never. They're so consumed by greed theyd kill thier own family's if it meant an extra tax incentive. But hey im just speaking "The Truthiest" here. So do your homework b4 you open your pecker holster of a mouth.

TheTruthiest having you privacy invaded in the first place is highly disgusting then having someone look you in the face and ask about it when you you're there to answer questions about an entirely different subject matter, it's an ambush to get a big headline. It's disgusting and no just because they're celebrities they shouldn't have to open up and tell some sleezy dickhead everything.

"Sometimes we want to forget about our bad days", says the WatchMojo guy. Are you serious? How to not get it. That is not the issue with the Downey, Jr. interview. This idiot pointedly asked a recovered alcoholic if we thought he would be tempted to ever use again. Whether you are a celebrity or not, that is a horrible way to get into and f with the mind of someone daily trying to be healthy. It was a gotcha moment, not Downey's inability to deal with his past, or feeling guilty or embarrassed. He knows everyone knows, but no one in the world would want to discuss their recovery that way or have that question put on them. EVERY interview there are requests made on mosts topics and this was a press junket for a Marvel movie. This reporter ambushed a decent guy who faced terrible times, and reinvented himself and his career. Don't blame this on the actor as if he is feeling guilty or acting petulant. This was extremely inappropriate and out of line of that interviewer. Listen to the reporter. He stumbles, shaky voiced, he knew he was ambushing one of our greatest actors and he was scared as hell, but, he wanted to make himself look edgy and 'get something' out of the actor. He's done it before.

And if you watch that whole interview he even says "I thought I was here to plug a movie" and when he is getting his microphone removed he says "it's getting a little Diane sawyer-y." So the interviewer was warned. Robert Downey Jr will talk about his past openly but, he is aware of it before hand so he can be in the right mindset for that type of emotion.

Number 10, 8 wasn't cringey at all. Assange had every right to leave and there is no right way for Paris to answer that question. The interviewers were as typical as the reactions.

Just cause someone is a celebrity doesn't mean they have to put up with shit anymore than the rest of us. Stay on the actual topic of the interview or suffer the consequences, and if you are on topic and asking what's relevant and they still get upset or offended, well that's their right and you just gotta suck it up.

RDJ had every right to leave the way he did. You don't ask ANYONE about something so personal unless you get their consent to do so. And you DONT ask someone about a serious personal matter of their past during an interview of something completely unrelated. We're talking about super heroes, movies and actors NOT about someone's family.

Well I guess we know who owns WatchMojo now, one of those multi media conglomerates. That own all those commentary shows that fewer and fewer people are watching. I wish their sponsors would leave them so they would have to shut down. But that will never happen because they got so much old money backing them that they'll just keep trying to feed us their shit. it's all their opinion nobody else.they don't even report the news anymore. And if they do they sensationalize the shit out of it and always ends up leaning toward their point of view. I don't remember subscribing to Mojo put it's on my freaking list how the hell you get that off of there?
