WWE has always had dumb gimmicks. The WWF in the 90's is remembered for being full of bad wrestling characters, but modern WWE isn't innocent either. In this list we're looking at my picks for the worst WWE gimmicks of the 21st Century so far, from sinister Alexa Bliss to the Funkasaurus Brodus Clay, and everyone in between.

The Worst part about the Funkasaurus gimmick was for months they'd built up Brodus Clay as this monster heel and then when he finally debuted it was so confusing to see how the build for his arrival came to a freakin dancing gimmick😂 and its a danm travesty how he of all ppl became NWA champion

Dark Alexa was entertaining to watch at first. Her facial expressions and line delivery was great and the story of her becoming brainwashed by The Fiend and becoming his pet was a great wrestler manager pairing. Reminded me a lot of Joker and Harley. However Vince ruined a compelling angle as usual as giving her supernatural powers and overshadowing The Fiend.

I agree the supernatural stuff during matches made it look really fake I hated when the fiend did it too. Ik I'm supposed to suspend my disbelief but that was way too much. The wyatt family worked because they didn't have magical powers besides turning the lights off Ig, they were just big scary men in a cult. Putting a sheep mask on Rowan and Strowman was brilliant from Bray it made them look more disturbing. Alexa should have been an unstable psychopath not magical girl. The doll while it did sell a shit tonne of merch, certainly didn't add to the creepy element of her character, if it looked something like Annabelle it would have but whatever vince came up with did not. I'm skeptical about the new wyatt 6 faction I fear they will go overboard with the magical powers bs and stain bray's legacy.

11:52. Eddie and Chavo Guerrero Jr. were uncle and nephew, not cousins. Also, I would include Chad Gable as Shorty G and Piper Niven as Doudrop.

They were more like brothers than cousins anyway. But yeah uncle and nephew they were. It is normal to have an uncle/aunt about the same age as a nephew/niece. Sad when wrestling KZfaqrs get facts and spelling wrong. you are meant to know this stuff.

6:17 Apparently a key reason Mordecai disappeared suddenly was that Vince simply lost interest after initially being very excited about this mirror Undertaker. It's a shame they couldn't train him up for a fun gimmick match such as Buried Alive.

Pritchard said on his podcast years ago it's because Kevin Thorne got into his head that he had to work like the undertaker but not like the undertaker from that era but like the old school early 90s undertaker so the matches in the ring were very slow paced and not great and they just thought nah it ain't gonna work

I actually liked Mordecai back in the day. He had a good look, cool theme song and I just knew he'd face The Undertaker eventually. I was also looking forward to that Eddie Guerrero feud he teased on Smackdown but he disappeared a few weeks later.

Alexa Bliss should return as the Goddess I know she would want to pay her respects to Bray but maybe do it while being a more improved version or reviving the character because dark Bliss isn't working

Simon Dean was a quality jabroni. Often got loud “Simon sucks” Chants. The spirit squad too were what they were and didn’t outlast their welcome. Kerwin White I reckon would be better looking back at. I thought it very cheap at the time, but seeing the footage back of Chavo pulling all these ‘middle class conservative’ cliches was amusing. Otherwise I can’t disagree with your list. What the hell were they thinking with making Albert Lord Tensai?!!! And doing a mist/iron claw…. Dogshit!

Lord Tensai could have been a good mid-carder or something. But they presented him as somebody that the fans did not know, I think a few video packages of him getting special training in New Japan or something might have worked.

Albert was best known for his run as T & A with Test and Trish Stratus. The notoriety of his look was much less about his back than it was all the piercings, you know, the things that led to his naming in the first place.

Lord Tensai had possibilities if they had done it right, Don't pretend Tensai wasn't Albert but just explain that after spending time in Japan he decided to embrace Japanese culture instead decadent weak Americaism

They literally said on his debut "he is a former WWE superstar who has spent time in Japan" At no point did they claim he was either new or Japanese. In fact, on the website they flat out stated he was Albert.

I actually liked the supernatural version of Alexa Bliss. WWE was making plans to bring that version back when Bray Wyatt passed away. In my opinion, she didn't get enough build of the character to reach the heights it should have

Mordecai, Simon Dean, Kerwin White, and Spirit Squad were all really good gimmicks Kerwin White was hilarious, and Spirit Squad were really entertaining. And Mordecai looked great and should’ve had a feud with Taker. The ECW Zombie doesn’t really count, as that was just a one time thing for Sci-fi. The worst gimmicks of the 21st Century in WWE are Eugene (How didn’t this get on the list, the worst gimmick ever) Pirate Paul Burchill The Boogeyman (This should’ve made the list) Jessie and Festus Deuce and Domino Kizarny Hornswoggle Lord Tensai Dancing Brodus Clay Fandango Primo and Epico as Los Matadores Spooky Alexa Bliss NiKki ASH (Superhero NiKki Cross) Retribution Mad Max BDSM version of Karrion Kross (when Karrion Kross originally debuted on the main roster Vince gave him a BDSM style mask).

The Boogeyman was on another recent list and I got loads of people saying they loved him, same with Eugene. Crazy I know! I really liked Fandango personally. It's very subjective, this kind of list. Goes to show no matter how bad the gimmick, someone will love them

@@StunnedByWrestling I fucking hated Eugene, even as I was a 9/10 year old kid watching Raw at the time in 2005/2006. I hated how fucking immature and stupid the character was. I wasn’t offended by the character, and nothing against Nick Dinsmore. But the character of Eugene is without a doubt the worst gimmick in wrestling history imo. The Punch and Judy type comedy that was Eugene, was fucking go away heat for me. And as I said, I was 9/10 years old watching Raw at that time, and I knew how fucking awful it was.

It’s a good thing Triple H turned the company around and decided to never revisit all of Vince’s racist gimmicks ever again now that Old Fart is gone. All of Vince’s gimmicks like Samba Simba, Akeem The African Dream, and others have aged terribly and would never fit in today’s modern day “new generation” of WWE. Nick Khan has done a great job of putting their live events into international stadium shows, something WWE hadn’t done in a very long time since SummerSlam 92 in London.

The ECW Zombie doesn't count. It was a one off as part of a string lame gimmicks for the Sandman to destroy. It was never a gimmick handed to someone to try and make a career out of. Why do people pretend it was when they stupidly put it on lists like this?

It was actually because of corporate BS. They re-launched ECW on Sci-Fi. As part of the TV deal they had to include zombies and vampires because - well ya know, Sci-Fi.....and it was beyond stupid.

These gimmicks were bad, But shame on the video creator. There is a lot of misinformation that was said for most of these guys. He has made up a lot of convoluted crap. Just check them out. I don't even particularly like most in the video.
