Top 10 Forgotten Formula 1 Tracks
In this circuits of the past video, we show you the top 10 of forgotten Formula One tracks. But first, what do we mean by a forgotten Formula 1 track? By this we mean a Formula 1 race circuit that hosted a Formula 1 Grand Prix in the past. Such a long time ago that is is forgotten by the majority of the Formula 1 fans.

I’m 54. Donington is an awesome circuit, more suited to motorcycles as it’s a pretty narrow circuit…& I’ve been to some fantastic music festivals there…😂

I'm 56. Donington was always one of my favourite circuits I want to visit. In 2018 I visited and get some fast laps in the Safety Car, as you can see in the video. That was the only time I visited it so far.

@@Theferrariguy I’ve never driven Donington on either bike or car, but it’s one of those circuits…Brands Hatch is another one.

@@Circuitsofthepast The first time I went was with my mate on his TS125 as I was… trying to keep up with a geezers on Susuki GS 750’s… what makes me laugh is that after I passed my test I bought an RD350yovs…

I also visited Brands Hatch one time. There I was allowed to drive the Indy Circuit with my own car, to film a lap. But I was not allowed to drive at racing speed.

Swedens only F1 grand prix circuit Anderstorp Raceway ( formely known as Scandinavian raceway ) that hosted the Swedish gp in the 1970:s, up untill the death of 2 Swedish F1 racing drivers : Ronnie Petersson after a crash at Monza in 1978 and Gunnar Nilsson who passed away from cancer sadly. The track is well known to Swedes, perhaps not so much outside of Sweden today, but it still exits today, virtually unchanged and hosts national events every year, it's a fast flowing track which suits fast cars.

Yes I know the track. International I think it's most famous for the 1978 Swedish Grand Prix with the Brabham 'vacuum cleaner cars'. Unfortunately, I never visited it. But it is still on my to do list.

There was rumors of Indycar running a race in sweden because of all the swedes in the series. I imagine Anderstorp would be high on the list should it ever occur.

I'm sure in future, or even nowadays really, we can add the Buddh International Circuit (India) and Korea International Circuit to lists like these. I remember pretty much nothing from these races. I'm also missing the Zeltweg airport circuit from this list. Everybody remembers the Osterreichring, but the first Austrian GP was run on the Zeltweg airport. Nobody seems to remember this track.

I remember the layouts of the circuits in India and Korea. Buddh had elements of Istanbul Park. While elements of Korea Int. where used in COTA later. While I remember these details, I barely remember how the F1 races went on these tracks. Zeltweg is mentioned in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hLmkfLt_05m3e2Q.html The reason it was not an option for the top 10 is because I don't have footage of it. Only a few recordings from an air show on the airport, from the Red Bull Content Pool.

Adelaide hosted the Australian F1 GP several times and is still (mostly) drivable.

I know well the Pescara Circuit because I have friends in the city. I did once a complete lap, it is harrowing, even scarier than Moutain Circuit, in my opinion!

I never did Mountain Circuit, but one lap at Pescara. Indeed, a harrowing street circuit.

Great video. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last circuit, is the person videoing driving on the wrong side of the road? And not one car came the other way towards them, weird??

Shame they couldn't save the buildings at Rouen. Could have been a neat little tourist spot like Reims.

In Reims they also wanted to demolish the buildings. They already demolished the pitboxes in front. Fortunately most of it could be saved and is nog restored. Soon a new video about the restoration works.

@@Circuitsofthepast it’s just a rookie mistake - you can easily catch that if you keep trailbraking through the apex, I’ve raced and won there a few times (I also work for MSV so I probably know the guy that did it as well 😂)

However it is closed for a long time, Reims-Gueux is still well known as Formula One's ultimate abandoned circuit.

Brooklands had artificial chicanes for the British grand Prix in 1926 so that bit about Pescara being the first is obviously incorrect.

Thanks for the information. I didn't know about the 1926 chicanes. However, Pescara is still the first Formula 1 track with an artificial chicane.

@@Circuitsofthepast 1st Championship F1 circuit. Goodwood hosted many years of Formula 1 races and the chicane there was introduced in 1952.

@@CircuitsofthepastSilverstone 1949 would be a good possibility for the first race for Formula 1 cars to have an artificial chicane, the straw bale arrangement at Club Corner. It was dropped for 1950 onwards. But given Pescara Grand Prix events in those years were for 2 seater sportscars not under F1 regulations i'd say Silverstone might be the first.
