Күн бұрынSometimes a game goes out of print and it's lost to time. People remember the game but others can only hear about it and never get to play it. And it's always sad...............but then a reprint gets announced and suddenly everyone loses their mind in excitement. I personally love a good reprint if the game justifies it.
So here are 10 reprints/editions ranked not just by which ones I enjoy the most, but also taking into account how eventful the reprint was - did it really change the old game for the better, did it improve the rules ten fold, did it add tech to the mix etc. Not every game on this list is one that I enjoy. . . .

As always an excellent video. Although our tastes don’t always agree I enjoy hearing what you like and why. Personally I’m a huge Martin Wallace fan. Each reprint gets my money and my game groups all love the thinkiness of games like Brass, London, Automobile, and others. Rarely does he miss for us. One thing we enjoy is that Wallace’s games are great and the reprints are gorgeous. A nice contrast to some modern offerings that are gorgeous out of the box but are little more than swingy messes of mediocrity. But as you say, it’s only a game :-).

Can't deny it brought me back to give the game a second go and thus appreciate it a little more even if it's still not a game I overly like - that's no small feat.

Not come across your channel before, but I'm surprised Dune didn't get a mention. Streamlined play time (10 turns instead of 15), and improved components compared to the previous version from the 80s.

Have not played that I'm afraid in either version though I guess I played Rex but didn't really latch on to it. New version still looks like it takes too long to play a game.

@@TheBrokenMeeple Fair points. It's still a very long play, and I only know the old one from a comparison video. Very good game though, even though in the group I am part of, we have yet to get past 5/6 turns!

Great list, I can't think of any games to add. I was surprised you mentioned Brass because of your dislike for the game, I still really like the game but the dry theme makes it hard for my wife to even want to try it. Do you believe Kanban EV will be a contender for this list in the future?

I'd be surprised if it doesn't wow me, I guess it comes down to whether it changes enough to meet the definition.

It's a top 50 game for me - and it broke the barriers of heavy economic games for me by being one I can get behind and enjoy. That is no small feat.

My one problem with it is the two-part plan-then-perform actions. I usually am not too fond of that in games, which is why I really want to try this first before deciding whether I want to buy it or not. On the other hand both Orleans and Age of Empires III use that mechanism and I like them a lot.

The Broken Meeple I’m also curious as my groups love economic games but the theme. Ugh. Off to find a play through to see if it is worth picking up.

It's also a very unwieldy beast. But also I said that it couldn't be a straight up reprint with the same exact rules throughout. They changed literally nothing so the only amendment was great cosmetics. But the extra expansion is unnecessary when you already have a bunch and only really use one anyway.

I've considered that one, it's always on my "maybe" list - the only thing that hurts it is that most of the games that need one, have now got one! :P

I felt the same way you did about the original Brass. Bought the retail version of Birmingham and love the game. Might have made it into my top 20. I am actually considering buying the Deluxe version of Lancashire for the iron clays. Pret-a-porter is definitely not my cup of tea as far as theme is concerned but they really made that game look good. Not a fan of Mansions of Madness.

Cosmic encounter, through the ages, vinhos, viticulture....those are the ones that come to mind that didn't make your list.

Only room for 10! 😄 TTA was in the teens. I think it's a solid reprint but the game was still a really long affair and I don't think it changed a great deal rules wise. Its biggest issue is that the app kills the physical board game. Cosmic 42nd Edition didn't change any rules, it wouldn't have qualified for the list. Viticulture, I explained why that didn't qualify in my conclusion at the end. Vinhos would make the teens but I've not played nor desire to play the 2010 version as the 2016 version is good enough.

Rococo doesn't count as a fashion theme because it could be about anything. Meanwhile Pret-a-Porter was literally going to be reprinted with a different theme.

And yet they didn't. Ignacy stated that the game would have to change dramatically from its original format to accommodate it.

Whereas if not change the theme of Roccoco you could pretty much leave the mechanics entirely alone.

Played mansion of madness twice.... It sucked a lot... Super luck driven. Story was boring. No choice of upgrading your character in a way you want to. Super boring and after playing a scenario once there is no way i would play the same scenario with its minor changes again... What a disappointment.

Shame 😥, I love it! I enjoy the stories and development of each scenario. Most games like this involve a decent amount of luck.
