@jeffschwartz7923
@jeffschwartz7923 9 жыл бұрын
jooshep1 Actually they DO NOT go by album sales - and NEVER HAVE!!!!! It is much too diluted because albums are distributed from the record company to warehouses and may sit there for YEARS - before being delivered to a store for sale!!! They go by a MUCH more accurate figure - the amount paid to the writer of the songs airplay and sales - 6 cents per airplay - and 10 cents per sale to the song writer(s) (both are NOT negotiable since 1917)!!!!!!!! So, now - we're talking some real CASH (Led Zeppelin was paid over $90,000,000 for airplay rights alone of "Stairway To Heaven" (YES - at 4 cents per airplay!!!!)!!!!! So you want to brag that YOUR singer has a 10 million selling song - GREAT - PAY HIM for the sales!!!!! But you can brag that your guy HAS SUNG a million seller - as much as you want!!!!!!!!!! And DO NOT THINK that the singer ain't listening!!!!!! The record companies collect every radio stations airplay list - weekly - ALWAYS!!!!
@jeffschwartz7923
@jeffschwartz7923 9 жыл бұрын
jooshep1 I think Thriller is over 120 million by now!!!!!! There is NOTHING that sells albums better - that a good death!!!!!!!!! Thriller sold about 20,000,000 in the 1980's and when Jackson died - it actually out sold the top selling #1 record of the day - for another 2 months!!!!!!!!! It sold over 80,000,000 albums - they couldn't press them fast enough!!!!!!!! It is somewhere around 120 million in August 2015 - and STILL selling!!!!!!!!!!

Whether you like Michael Jackson, or not, or whether you liked Thriller, or not, NO OTHER album has done what that album has. That album was just insane when it came out. Tie that with an equally legendary music video. MTV was a little over a year old, when Thriller came out. Thriller blew up MTV. Then follow up video's of "Beat it" and "Billie Jean" made the entire album just nuts. Before Thriller, Michael Jackson was already a huge star. After, he was a phenom, In the ranks of Elvis or the Beatles. Thriller has had 65 Million in sales. 20 Million more than the next best selling album, "Dark Side Of The Moon" by Pink Floyd. Thriller was the number 1 selling album in 1983, holding the spot non consecutively for 22 weeks AND Then 15 more weeks in 1984. As new albums would come out and briefly surpass Thriller, their sales would eventually decline and Thriller would once again retake the top spot. Another new album would come out and replace Thriller, but soon it would wane. Thriller FINALLY left the number 1, weekly sales spot, the week of April 14, 1984 after FIRST taking the spot February 26,1983. It sold 15 MILLION albums in 1983 In '83 AND "84 it was the largest selling album

Michael Jackson's Thriller is the best selling album of all times. I find it funny when people try to dispute that. I do agree with the fact that Bad should be on the list. It was highly influential on pop music at the time and now. But anyways, Thriller deserved it's spot at number 1. No album will surpass it. This has nothing to do with his personal life but his music and Thriller is as big as they said it was. It's monumental and not to mention he is probably the most influential artist of all times.

no x42 The Beatles were.immense. Hard working, innovative, modern music owes them an awful lot. Pink Floyd have their moments, like Comfortably numb. I was lucky enough to remember the Beatles becoming the no 1 band ever, and the establishment push back against their rise. They were unstoppable, due to public pressure, and demand. But seriously I do love most everything except today’s “country” music and gangster rap. Actually any rapper that feels his song needs “nigga”, “nigger”, “Ho” or “bitch” in their lyrics to sell. Now Missy Elliot, pure genius. TuPac gets a pass because his lyrics truly meant something. PAC had something to say that we ALL needed to hear. Anyways I’m way off track.
