Wrath Oranos Totally agree! I watched Live Aid on a live telecast when I was a kid and remember thinking that most of the acts sounded (and looked) like ass. U2's set was great and probably started their rise to fame in other countries, but their performance paled in comparison to Queen's. Freddie Mercury had the crowd eating out of his hand in a performance that sent chills down my spine (and I was watching on TV, I can't imagine being there)! That set was a truly epic display of showmanship and talent that is rarely seen.

One Goat I hate to quibble because I also think Queen deserve to head this list. However, at Live Aid Queen were allowed to cut to their video of Bohemian Rhapsody because they could not have achieved Tue multiple vocal effects live. They started and ended live but the middle section was recorded. But they were still the best act of Live Aid. In my opinion, Dire Straits should have been included in this list.

Listen to Led Zeppelin. Their live performances were from another world. You won't find two concerts the same from them. They improvised a lot. On Live aid, queen was the best act, no question about that. But, except for Queen all acts came ill prepared, it was easy being the best act at Live Aid. It was the reaction of all other acts "holy Sh1t, they prepared, they're stealing the show" that made it legendary, not the gig itself, Queen themselves had many better gigs, others too, just not at Live Aid.

RIGHT! Queen at Live Aid gave us the absolutely best performance .. . 20 minutes of music plus interaction with those there in Wembley AND across the world seeing it all on TV. Their music and performing still 'fresh' entertainment these many, many years later. . . . Love them; tears for Freddie.

Yess!! They were freaking incredible and I remember the day watching that and they just blew everybody out of the water even though U2 gave a good performance and so did Duran Duran. Some of the bands that I expected to be the best really weren't but I didn't think that Queen would have anything less than awesome of a performance because they always gave 150% and they wouldn't stand for less than that. They were the same four original members and they all wrote different kinds of songs and genius is at their craft and when you have three science majors with two Doctorate Degrees and electronics engineer bassist along with Freddie Mercury degree and graphic illustration and Design, there you have it. It should have never worked because Freddie Mercury was so camp but Freddie, Rooger, and Brian we're close friends when they were going to the university. Freddie was best friends with Tim staffell, who had been the lead singer of SMILE, along with Brian and Roger. As as a matter of fact, the three of them were roommates from 1968 until Freddie moved in with Mary Austin in 1970. The cost of living was so high there and Brian Rodger and Freddie were so poor that the three of them shared a large efficiency apartment. They were going to college and working little odd jobs and smile had some music gigs going on, but the band wasn't really going anywhere. Freddie Mercury kept telling them you guys are good but you should do this and you should do this and his best friend Tim wasn't going to do that because he wasn't like Fred. Tim said he loved Freddie as a best friend, and he admired Freddie for doing what he did, but that he would never have felt comfortable doing what Freddie did. There was some talk about Freddie Mercury joining SMILE when Freddie Mercury was lead singer for IBEX/ Wreckage- but Brian was saying no no no. Freddy is excellent on the piano and excellent vocalist but there's no way that Tim is going to do what Freddie wants like an actual performance because it wasn't Tim's Style. After about 18 months Tim left the band to go play for humpybong 😂 Brian and Rodger we're just going to throw in the towel and give up and that's when Freddie Mercury was there Catalyst and said no no no guys you can't give up! You've got to keep working hard for what you want and if you need to lead singer I will sing with you and you can do your thing and I'll do my thing. it worked except they didn't find a good enough bass player until after going through 6 and they finally got John Deacon when he was 19 in 1971, and that was the final Queen band. Freddie Mercury was John Deacon's mentor, and helped him a lot with writing and even singing after about six years because John Deacon just didn't feel comfortable singing. it was not until about the time news of the world came out in 1977 that John finally felt comfortable singing back around with the rest of the guys but he wasn't the vocalist that Brian and Rodger were at all but he could still sing quite well. I wanted to hear his voice more and there's a KZfaq video with John Deacon singing; and he was singing harmony with Freddie in a concert, and I was actually amazed because he sounded great. John also made that special amplifier that could make Brian's guitar sound like an orchestra or anything he wanted to do with it. I'm sure they still use it today in addition to that John Deacon was there business manager pretty much because he handled all of their business and financial matters from 1975 on because he was good with money and figures. is anybody had a question about how much they paid in taxes as well as how many crew members they were paying the band members would look over and point to John and say, "you would have to ask him." John was saying he didn't exactly know but he thought there were about 35 people that toured with them that were there set up crew and their Roadies. in the studio they did work with other people like Reinhold Mack. he was an actual genius sound engineer and they started working with him around 1980 and he and Freddie Mercury became so close they were like family and Mack named his son Freddie Mack and Freddie was the baby's Godfather. I just love that name Freddie Mack because it sounds so cool. Freddie Mercury was also Godfather to Mary Austin's oldest son Richard. Freddie Mercury spoiled those kids & sent them giant sized teddy bears and toys, in addition to calling Reinhold Mack to ask them what they were feeding the baby and Reinhold said that Freddie Mercury was more meticulous about what the baby ate than his own mother.😂😂😂

Sex Pistols and Daft Punk’s gigs deserve mention if not for the musicality of their shows, but for the importance of these two gigs. The Pistols Manchester gig gave us Joy Division / New Order and the Smiths and basically helped make Punk what it became during the late 70’s Daft Punk almost singlehandedly created the quintessential edm performance during this tour. During the 2010’s you saw EVERYONE in electronic music try to capture what they did at Coachella.

There is still some people that don't understand the kind of revolution Daft Punk made that night. That was the first time that an artist had that kind of technology and production in a live performance. You can hate their music, but that night America was rocked by the robot duo, achieving for the first time respect to an emerging music genre like electronic. Their spot is very well deserved. Also, long live that day when England was rulled by a different Queen.

Full Blank I AGREE NOT ALL OF THE BEST LIVE PERFORMANCES NEED TO BE IN ROCK AND ROLL you have a damn near endless supply of musical genres and sub-genres yet when it comes to BEST LIVE PERFORMANCES everyone focuses their attention on one-sided genres i've seen some amazing live shows from different artists expanding from pop, rap, edm, indie, alternative, underground and a LITTLE BIT of rock and roll (i've seen other good shows from other genres too) ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO PRODUCTION!!!! lists like these should focus on more than just genres and legends. THEY SHOULD MORE ON THE PRODUCTION OF THE SHOWS, THE COMMUNITY AND FANBASE OF THOSE ARTISTS AND TRY TO BE LITTLE MORE DIVERSE WHEN IT COMES TO GENRE. not to mention current live shows from the big and upcoming artists have insane amounts of production leading to a bigger experience. There is also mentioning of specific venues, festivals and arenas, that shouldn't be shadowed over either. but at this point, you get idea. i'm just sick of the one-sided genre bullshit.

I loved their diversity in the styles of music they wrote and performed. I am now disabled but still play Bass with a great original band and will be playing the Bay area this Aug. and Sept. at 60 years old, not bad for a crippled old hippie from Oregon. I do have 7 years of classical training from my youth, my symphonic teachers were extremely talented, and I won 2 scholarships for lessons with an incredible man who played with the Boston Pops and Tiajuana Brass.

OK on The Stooges... I mentioned The Ramones because I saw them perform. There's early Alice Cooper... "Billion Dollar Babies"...

I 'm 64 From E- Van.BC, Been going to Rock concerts since the 60's, seen many of the greats Led Zep. 4 X, Deep purple 2 X, Johnny Winter, The Who, The Stones, Beach Boys, The Boss, Eagles, Heart ...and a ton more ... Without a doubt in my mind Freddy Mercury and the Queen band at Farm Aid was and most likely will always by far be the greatest live ROCK performance of ALL TIME. The positive feedback loop Freddy and the band created with the audience was mesmerizing ...It was like they were all one entity joined in an upward spiral of pure musical ecstasy ...just for me watching it, I can feel the beautiful energy ... I just watched the Bohemian Rhapsody movie last night ...and I'm still tingling ...peace...

Michael Jackson's live concert in Bucharest was watched all over the world too. I'm totally fine with Queen being first, because their Live Aid performance was iconic as hell! Michael should've been on the list though

For a second I thought they were going to put Queen as an honorable mention. I was ready to find someone and do bad things to them...then I was like, oh, never mind.

There is something in Freddie's voice that changes everything. Not that Brain is not an awesome guitarist or the other members are not remarkable. But there is something in him. A friend, who never hear anything other than really soft and quiet music one day suddenly heard Queen from me and after a few days came back and said there is something in this guy's voice that I can't forget.
