For every great and mostly accurate crime movie such as Ridley Scott’s American Gangster, there are flicks such as the ones in this list which serve as an entertaining story that vary on how accurate they stick to the historical facts/“source material”.

It’s funny, while they may not have been historically accurate, this list includes some of my all time fave movies! 🤷🏻‍♀️ ‘Catch Me…’ is my fave Leo film, ‘Public Enemies’ was Johnny’s best look hair/wardrobe wise, (although ‘Blow’ is my #1 fave film of his, also based on a true crime story), JFK, Bonnie & Clyde were also great films. If I want historical accuracy, I’ll watch a documentary, visit a library, or Google! 😆😉

It is a fine film thanks to Mann’s direction and an excellent cast. I don’t mind any of the embellishments since it is a movie, but there are are accurate details such as Dillinger’s incarceration in Leavenworth, some of his time on the run and ultimate demise

I think "JFK" should have been #1 on this list, considering that it was so convincing in re-creating the myth of the conspiracy theory. I'll admit that when I first saw the movie, even I was convinced that there was a government conspiracy to assassinate John F. Kennedy. But I've since learned how filmmakers like Oliver Stone twist and manipulate historical facts in order to "prove" a conspiracy theory. One scene that you show in this video rang a warning bell in my mind when I first saw the movie. You show Jack Ruby planting the so-called "magic bullet" on a stretcher at Parkland Hospital. If you think about it, you realize how ridiculous this is. It assumes that (1) the conspirators knew ahead of time that John Connally would get hit with one of the bullets and (2) the conspirators also knew that a second bullet would NOT be found in John Connally's body during surgery. Think about it! If one bullet had been found in Connally's body by the surgeons, and a second bullet had been found on the stretcher, the investigators would know that there was more than one gun involved. It would have blown open the whole conspiracy. So if (as the movie argues) the conspirators planted the bullet on the Parkland Hospital stretcher, they must have been sure that a second bullet would not be found in Connally's body - EXCEPT HOW ON EARTH COULD THEY POSSIBLY KNOW THAT AHEAD OF TIME?

How 'bout the 1970 Roger Corman film Bloody Mama with Shelly Winters as Ma Barker? Historically speaking where would that fit on this list?

Corman also did a movie called The Saint Valentines Day Massacre that would probably qualify. Although it is redeemed by a gloriously miscast Jason Robards having such a blast chewing the scenery with gusto as Al Capone.

@user-mg5mv2tn8q
@user-mg5mv2tn8q 6 ай бұрын
Bonnie and Clyde is very much worth watching. But they're right, it's really not a history textbook. Among other details they got wrong was that Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty are both much too tall to be playing the quite diminutive title characters, neither Bonnie nor Clyde are depicted speaking in rural Texas accents, and some of Clyde's dialogue is actually lifted straight from John Dillinger. Such as the scene in the bank where he asks a poor farmer if that's his money or the bank's money in his hand, and when the farmer says it's his money, he says "You keep it, then. We only want the bank's money." That was pure Dillinger. The real Clyde Barrow would have taken the money, and probably shot the farmer.

Speaking of Jimmy Carter, his narration during the closing credits of Argo claiming that his administration helped resolve the Iranian crisis is also further from the truth. The Reagan administration did that, but Hollywood doesn’t like to give credit to conservatives.

According to the most recent documentary I watched(less than a week ago) on the whole “Iran hostage crisis” back in the late 70s, it was Carter that all but secured their release. The hostages were literally stuck at the airport in Iran, while Carter’s administration and the Iranians hammered out exactly how much of the Shah’s wealth would be transferred from US banks to the Iranians, right up until Carter had to leave the White House. He had planned on meeting the hostages after their release, but haggling over the money made it take a little longer than expected. Now, Reagan MAY have hammered out the VERY last details/amount of funds, but Carter was responsible for 90-99% of that deal in the first place. Granted, he screwed up PLENTY leading UP to said deal, but that’s a different story altogether.

Argo was fun but ironically very problematic in how it depicted the iranian men during the final "chase" which never happened. Ironic since affleck went on a rant on bill maher years ago about needing to NOT be islamaphobic.

Another thing wrong with "Argo" is that it didn't mention H. Ross Perot's involvement in what came to be known as the "Canadian Caper." There was, however, a Made-for-TV movie about the same incident which did show Perot's part in the operation. I don't remember the title of the film (I think it had the word "wings" or "eagles" in its name, but I'm not sure), or the name of the actor who played Perot. Unfortunately, all most Americans remember about Ross Perot is his unsuccessful campaign for President of the United States back in the 1990s (he ran as an independent candidate), whereby he spent more time acting like an idiot than actually telling everyone exactly what he was going to do if he were elected, which is why he lost.
