You should consider doing a top ten list of controversial mods for video games. One mod per game such as wicked whims for the sims 4, brutal doom for doom, hot coffee for GTA San Andreas, etc.

The Night Trap controversy is hilarious considering none of those rallying against it had even played it and the fact you are protecting the girls, not trying to kill them. I wouldn't say it was a plain bad game, being more along the lines of a "so bad its good" kind of thing. It just had a pretty big re-release on PC and consoles after all, so the demand was there.

Back in 2002, I was 15. The manager at GameStop was trying SO hard to sell me on State Of Emergency, & how great it is! So I bought it, & I regret it to this day...

For me, watching the media talk themselves into knots because of some of these games was often just as entertaining as the actual games themselves. Every time Rockstar would release a new title, I'd go to my mate's place (because she had international TV) chuck on some American news and grab a big bowl of popcorn. Ahh, memories.

I'm surprised that "Phantasmagoria" from Sierra On-Line back in 1995 didn't at least get a honorable mention on this list. When this game was released which is a FMV horror story it was highly controversial and critized not only because of it's content of gore and violent scenes, but the rape scene at the beginning of chapter four made people go bananas. Loved this game so much because it's a pretty good horror story, and yet I haven't become either a murderer or a rapist according to what the critics and reviews wants you to believe.

At 8:21 it is labeled GTA 2 but that’s GTA 3 being shown. Gta2 was a 2d game from a sky view. The character shown is Claude and he’s the character you play as in GTA3.

You are mistaken. The game Death Race had nothing to do with the movie. Originally called Destruction Derby, they lost the ability to use the game in its original form in 1975 when the company they sold exclusive manufacturing rights to went under. They reworked the game, added "gremlins", and renamed it in 1976. There is no tie-in to the movie that came out in 1975.

I got the Night Trap 25th Anniversay edition and I love it both ironically for the cheesy movie scenes and unironically for the full attention-required gameplay.

When I saw a playthrough of Night Trap for the first time, I was 10 and had never heard of the controversy surrounding it. I thought it was a cool game because you got to fight a bunch of bad guys in a really cool house. Then, when I heard about the controversy two years later, I was really confused. I thought it was a great game. I mean, I'm a woman and I liked it.

Mortal Kombat should be #1 for sure. MK is the reason we have rated games these days. Manhunter is #2, DOOM is #3 and only then comes GTA. I'd add Hatred to this list

Accused of neo-Nazism and anti-islamism.) * Postal series (Controversial because it promotes violence and anarchy.) * Punch-Out!! series (Controversial because the opponent boxers are regarded as racial stereotypes.) * Fighter's History (Controversial because it involved a lawsuit between Capcom and Data East, considering that Fighter's History is a rip-off of Street Fighter II. The latter of which have won the lawsuit.) * Splatterhouse series (Controversial because of the graphic violence and questionable enemies.) * Wolfenstein 3D (Controversial because of the violence and Nazi imagery) * Thrill Kill (Controversial because of the over-the-top violence, Satanic imagery, and sexual content. It was so controversial that it got cancelled, mainly because Electronic Arts acquired Virgin Interactive, the publishers of Thrill Kill.)

State of Emergency was so good. I loved Manhunt too. I miss that era of games. No One Lives Forever, Red Faction, GTA Vice City, Bully, Stuntman, etc just a good time for gaming.
