These are some of my favorite lists. Mostly cuz reviewers tend to talk about the same popular games.

I had Caballero, I believe it was called Conquistador in the Netherlands. It had map generation but was pretty vague, almost a kind of checkers/chess. I cannibalized its components for something else. Never seen anything as innovative ever since.

Great choices. We played many games of Ka-Ching with our son when he was younger (mostly to keep him from wanting to play Monopoly) and I’ve been searching in vain for a copy of El Caballero for a while. I also don’t put much stock in the BGG ratings and have played many lower rated games that have turned out to be good.

I actually got a free copy of Mammut once upon. I never played it, but I did donate it to a Toys for Tots thing they did at my job. I figured some kids would want board games and that one looked like a cool family game. :-) Also... my gaming group would almost surely turn down playing it, since it is maybe too light for their tastes. Glad to see it looks like a solid game, after all. :-)

Love videos like this. I was at a meetup last weekend where I proposed a game and one of the players immediately pulled up BGG to check the rating. We need to respect other's opinions and not put so much weight on BGG. BGG ratings, in my opinion, weigh heavily on the opinions of long-time and/or heavy gamers so light stuff tends to get unfairly demonized a lot of the time. You made me wish I hadn't gotten rid of El Cabellero so quickly which I got very cheaply a few years back and to make room let it go. Shame. Some low rated ones I recommend that I just don't understand the hatred for are Alan's Adventureland (5.8!) and Mad City (also 5.8). And I am sure I have more.

I like Lost cities the board game and recognize that it is rated lower than Keltis but it is great!

Love Snowblind - Race for the Pole. Such a good game! Hate how low it’s score is just bc it’s push your luck.

Not sure where my other comment went. Just want to back up Vabanque being #1 underrated game. It’s my new go-to for 6 players. So fun!

I would probably have games like Exploding Kittens, Unstable Unicorn and Munchkin to a list like this. ANY game that goes "mainstream" and have lowish complexity always get a lot of downvoting negative nancies that can't stand a game like that get popular. All those games would be rated higher if they weren't so popular, which is kinda backwards.

Not much I'd recommend below a 6.5 rating... Best down that low for me is probably Skytopia... Allowing a slightly looser definition of below 7...then stephenson's rocket and spirits of the forest work well for me!
