Completely understand. Sadly, on this occasion, it would be doing graphics for every game (which would be far too time consuming for me) as I don't have copies of most of these games due to moving them on quickly. This was just meant to be an informal recap. Sorry you didn't enjoy!

I think Actual Factual is flawed in the sense that if you make up a fake answer, if somebody asks you to repeat it, you'll forget your answer, whereas the the actual answer is written and the player reads it (instead of remembering what they said) Major Con

I respect your reviews the most among the board game reviewers. I've yet to be disappointed or disagree with a game you've recommended. You are one of the few honest board game reviewers out there not in the pocket of Big Board Game.

Looks like I’m in the minority with you. I remembered a not so favorable review but got it in a trade. And Devir had been really good. I loved how seemingly straightforward it was, but I did a playthrough and then later the solo game and both times I was bored out of my mind. Just felt really unsatisfying. I should play it opposed but decided to pass it on to a friend instead. Would much rather play something else than waste any more time on this one.

People who call Feld games point salads don't understand what a genius he is. When you get points for EVERYTHING, you might as well be getting no points for anything. It's exactly the same thing. It doesn't matter if you end a game with 12 points like Dune imperium or 12.000 points. All that matters is that you score more than the others to win. And that's where Feld's genius is hidden. He makes you think everyone is getting points (and technically they are) except there are hidden engine building elements within the mini games he's set up. The person who gets only one point for the Trajan tile the reduces feeding costs is way ahead than the person who got 9 points from a trajan tile that did nothing else even though he might seem ahead on points. The person who goes for all the animals in Burgundy will sky rocket in points in the beginning but is going to lose to the person who went for mines and value buildings. So sure, go ahead, keep calling them point salad games. Just like Tom Vasel who coined the term, you'll never understand how his designs work. Tom Vasel has never understood a Feld design in his life and admits he's never been any good at them. I don't think following his a example is the best idea if you're planning on investing in Feld games.

I haven't played Babel or Carsar & Cleopatra fir over 20 years - but remember liking both. Given your new interest in the GIPF Series and Abstracts generally, are you done with "Ur" (P Mori) or could give it another look?

I think I bounced off of Ur a bit too much to repurchase it sadly.

Played the game just now. Really horrible experience. Not clean at all. Too much steps but in the end, only the worker at the administration is counted as score. Goods deliver is useless, route upgrade is useless since money is not a problem, imbalance era, era 1 ended early because all the players need to establish routes. The rule book also not helping.

As a big fan of Knizia tilelaying games I was abit critical of this because of the tracks. But it really was a pleasent surprise. It plays fast and it is quite tense. As with other Knizia titles you have to balance grabbing as many points as possible while still securing top spot on your own track and effectively blocking your opponents. You can't let another player "shoot the moon" and connect all cities for 20 bonus points total. It doesn't scale well. It is 4 players or nothing.

I've had Babel on the watchlist for awhile now, waiting for the right price to pop on a Zman copy! I have a few of Uve Rosenberg's light to medium weight games like Nova Luna, Nusfjord, Glass Road, At the Gates of Loyang, and Bohnanza. But ya I tend to veer away from the punishing ones like Agricola :)

TZAAR is the best modern abstract strategy game. Both in the GIPF-series and of all ASGs. DVONN is the number two best in the series for me. Very smooth and accessible. Both are masterpieces. First 5-10 times playing one uses random setup for both games. However, when both players are confident, they build up the board placing 1 and 1 piece. This goes for both games.

I am enjoying this game very much. Key is not to start going for towns in your own colour, but to try and first steal the (first) bonus points on your opponents’ tracks and with those, catch-up on your own colour track. Very tense, but works magnificently if executed well.

I’m really enjoying it. Good interaction. Sometimes it’s more on the map sometimes more in the tracks. Feels like there is good room for system mastery. I actually find Through the Desert to just be too quick. You make a couple of tense decisions but there’s no time to really execute a long term strategy. So those decisions kind of come out in the wash of repetition. The little speed bumps you have to navigate in Cascadero are both puzzly whilst offering moments of weakness your opponents to exploit. It’s not his most elegant design though, I agree.

Many games "only" really works great with four players. My opinion this goes for Knizia's Blue Lagoon and this. A problem? Not really.

Yeah sadly this one is a miss for me. Often enough Knizia combines elements of his past games with a new ingredient to create magic. This is the time where it didn't work. I would recommend Babylonia over this any time of the day.

Wow that's a surprise. I played it 3 times at Origins, and it was a favorite of many. Definitely best at 3-4p and most challenging with farmers. The 3rd [farmer] game came down to final envoys and a tie breaker, with the high scoring player being 1 away from top of his track.

@@zivpesso6293I got TTD at the same time. At first I thought TTD might be too light for me, but I really enjoyed the fast turns of just slapping down a couple camels and collecting some bonuses. After the 3 Cascadero plays at origins I love the depth of strategy that can be found in such a simple set of rules. While I often introduce it as TTD with tracks, it's actually more about the positive interaction of visiting the same towns than negative in ttd.

Same. Purchased at Origins and have played 5 times and really enjoy it and find there is a lot of strategy. Even at 2p I think it’s a blast and it’s pretty quick.

ahh too bad to hear you didnt enjoy it as much. I had a game where I repositioned an envoy in order to fix and connect my chain and it gave me a bunch of the 2 towns of the same color connection (regarding the big turns statement). It definitely is more circumstantial and requires a bit of planning to pull off. Ill have to give TTD a play at some point
