It did pretty well overall, The esee 6 did pretty well overall and the basic design I think helps with that. I would love to see Esee make a elite line in CPM3V or some other higher end steel

To me, the cold steel SRK in 3V is one of the best options out there. The biggest weak point is the handle, but if you have the means to send it off to a custom smith and have an aftermarket handle put on, it's an amazing upgrade. I did that to mine (as well as reprofiling the edge to a thinner convex) and now it's by far my favorite "do everything" belt knife. Their heat treat of the 3V is one of the best I've seen, even compared to higher end knives like the Bark River offerings.
@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors
@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors Ай бұрын
I think the SRK even in 3V is a great knife. To me having bit rehandled would take a lot of the value away from it from a budgetary standpoint. If you really like the knife then all kudos to you. One I think should really be considered for the money these days I didn’t have for this video series is the Architect 5.5 or 6.5. Top tier peters heat treat 3V and takes all the Esee parts

I want to like the silent hero so bad but I just can’t with that narrow handle and I don’t understand why finger choils are a thing. To me it’s just wasted cutting edge.
@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors
@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors 10 ай бұрын
I have always had mixed opinions on finger choils, some work really well and help with fine detailed work and others are just a nuisance quite frankly. There are a couple knives like the Esee 6 and WTG Mt Lion that uses the choil well, while the Fobos and Tops Silent hero really didn’t need one. I think overall I can do without it
@4673962

Love this testing series. The couple things I would change would be, 1-rate the knife with the handles the that come from the factory. 2- now this is me but I wouldn't put the "tactical" part in the testing. Given Gabriels background and this is his testing, I can totally see it being part. If the testing was done with those two things in mind I believe 1st. would be WTG, Lionsteel, Esee, Becker, TRC..... I think its awsome that he put the time into a multi-part series and was very open and honest about his choices and scoring. Great test, looking forward to more.

That was a lot of work, time and money. I’ve watched a lot of knife reviews. Never seen a 10 knife head to head. I have the DBK Apocalypse it came with convex grind. It’s an amazing knife in convex. But I’m with you on the Esse 6. I’m also a big believer in the SRK. My best knife in the mid size survival knife class is the Bark River Bravo II in 3V. It’s special. Anyways good selection of knives. Awesome job reviewing them. Merry Christmas

Great series Sir. I've just got the Ontario Rat 6 in S35vn. Apart from the handles, which I'm going to have to round off with some sandpaper, it seems like a winner. Even the sheath is doable. Its a real shame Ontario went bust . The BK 7 would be an outstanding blade if it came with micarta scales and a kydex sheath as stock. The Esee 6 is difficult to beat for the price, but i agree they need to upgrade the steel.

Thank you for watching, I personally think Esee, Becker etc should keep doing 1095 as a common man blade steel but also offer a premium series in a higher end steel as well with the other upgrades.

I echo this, the TKC/Architect Field Buddy 6.5 in 3V is the Best price to performance knife I’ve ever used. The only knives that even come close are old school SYKCO’s and the Terava Skrama 200. Please do yourself a favor and get an AK FB 6.5 in 3V and the FB 5.5 in 3V. They use the Esee 5/6 handle profile so they’ll readily accept any Esee 5/6 scale and the sheaths for the FB use the same attachments as the Esee 5/6 sheath. Peters (gold standard in high performance heat treat) does the heat treat and Tops makes the blades, so you know the performance and quality is there. Do yourself a favor and check them out. This is coming from an enthusiast who own Carothers, Winkler, Busse and kin, Freeman Outdoor Gear, Hinderer, Tops, Becker, Esee, Survive (not a fan of them as a business), Dawson, Etc.

Nice comparison, but trc are not production knives. These are handmade in Lithuania, which is why they are so expensive. Similar to Bark River, except the company is much smaller and they only produce a few knives a day. In addition, a TRC certainly takes much longer to produce than a Bark River, because the quality is on a different level.
@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors
@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors 9 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching. They have about the same level of protection as a bark river and many other knife companies. No doubt they are high quality, no doubt but they are still made on a production line with a team of guts and I still feel they are over valued for what they are.
