Of natural colored diamonds, green and red diamonds are by far the rarest body colors. The appearance of green in a diamond is caused by millions of years of exposure to a source of natural irradiation in the earth, either among uranium compounds or percolating ground water, which changes its specific absorption of light. The majority of naturally irradiated diamonds show isolated green strains that barely penetrate the surface of the crystal and are almost always removed during the cutting process. Conversely, a very small minority are exposed to the irradiation source over an extended period of time and therefore exhibit an even green hue throughout the entire crystal. Among this extremely select group of stones, only a very few have a true green color without any bluish, greyish or yellowish secondary colours. Natural, true green diamonds are therefore unique gemmological rarities, and represent an extraordinary group of beautiful and mysterious gems.

A good quality Tsavorite is just as beautiful and a lot cheaper. Something to consider if your looking for an excellent green faceted stone. They come in various shades but I prefer the slightly darker shades but not so much that it hides the light reflections.

I worked for rich custom jewelry in Vegas and my boss the owner had a fat green diamond in his ring. He said it was worth more than his house and he had a pretty nice house lol. Also said he had to get it tested for radioactivity I think

Fascinating! Most of us being lay people and not gem experts, wrongly associate certain colours as being limited to certain stones such as green with: emeralds, peridots, jade to only discover that there are green garnets, diamonds etc. The spectacular and dazzling lime or spring green gem at the 30 second mark, especially caught my eye.

Fascinating article! Although it is a very sad pity that the African, and Indian people haven't been allowed to benefit from the profits resulting from the sale of these precious gemstones! Most of the money goes into the wallets of the CEO'S of both the diamond mining companies and the auction houses, allowing them to live in wanton and selfish luxury. 😒

Andrew, I particularly love the Green Diamond as it's usually one of the least favoured in the colour scheme of this gem. Being such an individual myself, I tend to prefer things that are different. What's so amazing about these gems is the glorious settings they are in. The first shown at No.10 is stunning by Tiffany & Co. with all those white diamonds surrounding and then building to the centre green gem. This design would have to be my favourite if pushed to guess. The other great setting is that of the ring named after me, The Chameleon by Chopard. Loved the engraving on the Macle by De Beers but my absolute favourite was the Greenish-Yellow Mantis Ring. Maybe it's our sporting colours of green and gold that influenced me but the pear-shaped design completely won me over, as did the setting. Now that you know my favourite, you can start buying lottery tickets or saving like mad! Thanks for yet another great video, Kris.🇦🇺💖🕊💎

I’m trying to understand how can a Diamond change its color with heat or 24 hours in the dark…diamonds don’t do that, how can a stone has this unique characteristic and still have the chemical component of a Diamond? Nature is amazing.

more of artificially rare who knows how many are there inside the vaults of de beers & others alike. just like all the other colored diamonds. which are artificially being controlled. under pure light that diamond is just black pure darkness

Lab grown diamonds are exactly the same as EARTH grown. No expert on the planet can tell the difference.

My favorite stone shown here is the setted rough one with the triangular shape. For me this stone looks far more fascinating than the famous "Dresden" exhibited in Saxonias capitol.
