I have watched The Lion king hundreds of times throughout my life and even as an adult, Mufasa’s death breaks my heart. I well up with sympathy for Simba and burn with hatred for Scar every time.

Baby Mine gets to me every time. Having your mom put in jail while you’re a baby?? Idgaf, Those big eyes crying on Dumbo makes the tears come down mine.

Even though they made so many lists regarding sad animated movie moments - im glad they keep doing it and adding new ones to the list. They all tug at the heart strings and cause some eyes to sweat in a lot of us. Hard to pick a favorite! #7 spot definitely had me when I first watch it - the scene, the music and how close they were to being incinerated while clutching on to one another for one last moment. #6 with Little Foot's mother passing away is my first childhood traumatic moments. Sucks to learn a lesson like that early in life but an important one nonetheless growing up. Dumbo trying to be with his mother separated between a caged bar and that music is such a tear jerker and innocent.

Top 3 (In my opinion): 1. Mufasa's death 2. When she loved me 3. Bambi's mother gets shot The way I see these heartbreaking moments is through young lives. Mufasa's death and the Toy Story 2 scene are pretty close, but Mufasa's took top because of how dramatic and heavy this scene is, including the dark humor that lead to his death.

Almost half of the scenes in Encanto break my heart, mainly cause of Mirabel’s expressions while dealing with her family and always getting blamed. And of course, My poor Bruno.

Some people tend to forget about The Fox and Hound. The scene where Granny has to leave the Fox in the woods in order to protect him from being killed by her husband. Seeing her drive away from him as he sits there not understanding why she’s leaving him is so heartbreaking.

#1 has gotta be Lion King when Mufasa died trying to save Simba from the stampede

Ngl I think the death of Littlefoot's mom should have been higher, it's the only moment on this list that made me cry. I can watch a lot of movies from my childhood but not The Land Before Time.

For me as a parent, it's Inside Out when Riley comes home after running away and apologizes for not being happy and missing home. That entire movie is one I never appreciated until having kids

There are movies with more than one heartbreaking moment: In "Encanto":Pedro's sacrifice, the family takes the photo without Mirabel, the Bruno's plate, the discussion between Grandmother and Mirabel and the destruction of the "Casita". 1The Mufasa's death is absolutely heartbreaking, he died saving Simba, and they couldn't even say goodbye before he died, It also breaks me that at first he doesn't understand why his dad doesn't wake up, especially when he says that they have to go home (because after that he couldn't go home without him), and the way he tries to wake him up, while we remember the previous scene when he asks: "and we will always be together?".. It also broke my heart when Timon and Pumba make fun of what Simba believes in the stars: Imagine that your closest friends laugh at something important to you.. Also when Simba angrily yells at the sky: "You said you'd always be there for me and you're not" 2Frozen also haves heartbreaking moments: Anna freezes when she saves Elsa, they find out how their parents died and also when she finds out about Elsa's "death" and her parting with Olaf before he disappears.. oh it hurts me 3would have included when Anastasia as a child ran away with her grandmother, she released her, fell off the train and hit her head losing her memory 4Toy Story yes, as a child, Jessie's story marked me and it taught me to value my toys (a childhood's treasure) and not abandon them just like that, today I still keep them.. also the scene where everyone prepares to die tears me apart too 5In Finding Nemo, it also broke my heart when Marlin said: it's late, Nemo is gone and I'm leaving too and Dory's plea 6In Tangled, it destroyed me when Eugene was stabbed, and Rapunzel then with her hair cut still tries desperately to save him while singing and then cries, although in the end he doesn't die of course it's heartbreaking.. 7the Shang's "death" in Mulan II destroyed me, when he let go of her hand so that the two of them wouldn't fall, and then the Mulan's heartbreaking cry when she remembers Shang and sticks that sword feels very strong.. 8 oh Dumbo too, when his mother wants to approach his but in that she remembers that she is chained so she cannot get very close to see him but she brings her trunk closer to him

When Mebh tries to comfort her mom when she gets shot in WolfWalkers that made me son so unexpectedly

● The "Heartbreaking animated moments" that made me cry was when Riley returned home instead of when Bing Bong fades. ● Another "Heartbreaking animated moment" that made me cry was Mufasa's death when I saw "The Lion King" in theaters. ● Since Robin Williams passed away back at August 11, 2014, another "Heartbreaking animated moment" that made me cry was when both Aladdin and Genie said they're gonna miss each other. (Back when I heard about his death, I noticed that I'm not able to get his autograph at LA.)

I cried 4x at Monsters Inc. and Inside Out.

I would add either Peter's or Aaron's murder from Into the Spider-Verse. The entire city being united in shock and grief was staggering, and the mix of Aaron's regret, Miles' devastation and Jefferson unknowingly drawing down on his own son? That was crushing.

In An American Tail (1986), Fievel getting separated from his family during a storm really really gets to me. I watched this movie many times as a kid but it really hits hard as an adult.

Mufasa's death was very tragic. What makes it even more heartbreaking was the fact that in the live action remake of the movie, while Mufasa is still being voiced by James Earl Jones, when the character falls to his death, his tone says "I don't care. I'm just going with what the script tells me." Mufasa's death was heartbreaking enough, but we don't need that kind of tone, even if it is from his original voice actor.

Little foot’s mom dying is traumatizing af. Mufasa’s death and Simba’s reaction is brutal, that “HELP!” is so hard to hear. When She Loved Me is heartbreaking. The ending of Toy Story 3, beats the near incineration of the toys. That’s just me. I can’t even watch Up just because of that whole first scene.

Littlefoots mother's death is like a combo of Bambis mother's death and Mufasas death with him calling put mother like Bambi and begging his parent to get up like Simba.

Seeing a mother risk her own life to save her own baby as she comforts him one last time before tricking them into chasing her. What makes it even better is the fortune tellers words after the flashback "Your Story might not have a happy beginning, but its the rest of the story, who you choose to be"

Jessie has it hard, and trivia, everybody work on the movie and even Joan Cusack were crying when Jessie's backstory was told in song. And they told Randy they need a song for her, they said this story doesn't have a happy ending. And it really shows

I would suggest "When the wind blows". The whole film was heartbreaking.

The ending of Tinkerbell and the legend of the NeverBeast

This may sound silly but the most heartbreaking animated movie moment was from dreamworks flushed away. When roddy and Rita are floating out of the sewer and the jammy dodger falls into the water becoming lost. When Rita says “goodbye jammy me old mate” and the dodger makes one last wave goodbye that honestly was so heartbreaking. That was her trusty ship she used to navigate the sewers and to see it wave goodbye made it seem like it had a connection to Rita, almost like a friend perhaps, been through everything together. That was honestly so sad, in a bittersweet way.

Mufasa's death and Simba's reaction is unforgettable and heartbreaking

How does DreamWorks not have a single entry in this? The death of Stoick? Saying goodbye to the dragons? The death of Shrek? The Death of Oogway? The death of Po's mother? None of these even deserved honorable mentions? What about the death of Uncle Aaron in Spider-Verse? This was mostly Disney and Pixar, but DreamWorks that in many ways matches their quality has moments that deserved to be acknowledged, also Spider-Verse is amazing and I really hope Sony intends to make that quality their future goal.
