For me, it almost stopped the film from being scary; the virus explanation was so laughably bad it sounds like it could have come from a B movie. The virus in Quarantine is not the same one as the one from REC. It's a lot cleaner and tighter in terms of storytelling, and I'm not surprised they went with that one considering they are ONLY talking about the virus and not the film it's from. Stop being so butthurt about it; there's nothing more annoying than those "THE ORIGINAL IS THE BEST MOVIE TO EVER EXIST AND EVERYTHING ASSOCIATED WITH THE REMAKE SUCKS" purists.
