A movie? There will be movies upon movies. There will be emotional tear jerker movies, there will be sci-fi biological movies, and there will be plain good ol’ action movies where coronavirus will be fought with guns and explosions.

The korean film the flu is another good outbreak movie. I was watching it a couple days ago and loved it. I thought it did the whole outbreak thing very well.

When Contagion came out, people were comparing it to “Outbreak” and asking why Contagion was made at all since we already had Outbreak. But I think Contagion is better than Outbreak because it’s more realistic in how it portrays a viral outbreak, how the outbreak affects society, and the science behind trying to contain the virus.

I agree Amy. "Outbreak" had much more of a Hollywood feel to it - especially as Dustin Hoffman's character races to find a cure before his beloved dies. "Contagion" had a much more subtle - and effective - approach, which made it seem far more realistic.

@@santosgarcia1893 You're close, it was the Bird Flu epidemic which influenced the film's creation, I.E H1N1. Swine Flu affects humans, and the Swine Flu epidemic happened several years before the movie came out, more than two. I'd know, since my whole family got it, lol

As someone who works in a laboratory it fascinated me how Contagion managed to get things right - though some aspects where definitely more extreme- but overall Steven Steven Soderbergh definitely did his homework. By far it's my favorite outbreak movie just because of the realism of the scenario.

I enjoyed The Crazies. Especially how they cut the original beginning to keep the disease a mystery. Originally, we could see "patient zero" slowly lose his mind after drinking the water. Details are fuzzy but I believe he ultimately burned his home down with his family inside. While that is a great opening for the disease, it places the rules for it early and takes suspense away from the spread. Glad it got cut for horror purposes. Sad it got cut because it was well written.

One part that scared me is when the doctor is examining him and he says "I'm fine, just a little tired." and then he says it again just a moment later - "I'm fine, just a little tired" - you can see how his mind is deteriorating, but the doctor is distracted and doesn't pick up on it.

The plane from Singapore is more accurate. (I know the virus probably originated near Wuhan, but it went global when the first patient brought it to Singapore which is a major international hub in Asia)

The Last Man on Earth is still one of my favorite Vincent Price movies, and I first watched it in the late 1960s. And a big plus was the fact that Richard Matheson, under a pseudonym, wrote the screenplay for it.

Then stop watching the news and go outside and get some fresh air. Maybe talk to a neighbor. I promise you will not spontaneously combust. Unless you are of an advanced age or are immune deficient or live with somebody who is your own immune system will fight it off. Perhaps we all need to take a step back and really evaluate what we are allowing to have happen to our rights. Freedom of association has been taken away. Freedom of movement has been taken away. Our economy is failing and millions are unemployed. If you don't think that all of that is scarier than a virus with a mortality rate lower than the flu, there is no hope for you and you obviously live an already paranoid and sheltered life.

It is April 3rd and I watched contagion on British terrestrial TV in it's entirety a day ago. Quite frankly, it's terrifying. The parallels are quite uncanny. 28 days later is equally terrifying. The the film itself is compelling, the locations in the film are chillingly familiar, and the soundtrack stayed with me long after the film ended. I still shiver when I hear the track played on the crossbow cider ad.

I would recommend reading the book, "Contagion" by Robin Cook! It may have actually been the base for the movie, and is actually written by a physician and is based in medical fact, down to the pathologies and workings of the diseases mentioned. My Microbiology teacher had the book as an option for extra credit, and i fell in love with the series. Plus just in general the books are great and very well written.

I think it's more that they wanted it to be as real as possible. Using theories and trends of how viruses as infectious as the flu can spread so easily parallels the movie to what we're seeing now.

I also think it's amazing that "those in power" are using this for big and sinister plans and you, you detective you, manage to learn truths as you began to look into it. Do doctors keep coming up to you and ask how you know so much about this stuff? Maybe this is what you were supposed to do instead of becoming pre...a nobody. Of course "those in power" are not smart enough to keep a super genius like you from figuring out their master plan once you begin to look into it. Underestimating you will be their downfall. The only thing that bugged me about "Days" was Selena's hairstyle. **********SPOILER********** It was a pretty high-maintenance hairstyle for it to be so well-kept at the end, which was another 28 days later!

Contagion, to me, is the most realistic. But I loved Train to Busan, 28 Days Later and I am Legend (though I hated the theatrical ending).

Ok. Now we need a top 10 or so TV Show Outbreaks. I do recommend the Netflix original series Kingdom as I found it to be a very interesting take on the zombie outbreak genre

Ugh...the one scene in Carriers I did NOT need to be reminded of EVER again, thanks! Rips your damn heart and soul right in two if you are a parent or someone with a pulse. Almost as gut wrenching as the Road or Train To Busan.
