Well Doctor Sleep for one surprised me. I thought it would have done well as a sequel? Guess not. Son of the Mask (which I never saw) definitely didn't surprise me. That CGI baby is so weird. I think they were trying too hard to match up to the first movie. They replaced Jim Carrey? Yeah that was going downhill from the start

Terminator: Dark Fate was itself a Terminator, sent by Skynet, to terminate the entire franchise.

Objectively, Genysis is the worst. Personally, I would watch Genysis 5 times over watching Dark Fate.

You could argue every Terminator film after Terminator 2 has been a Terminator sent to terminate the franchise. However, just like in the movies, their streak of failure continues. SMH. At this point honestly, one can't help but laugh at the incompetence of Skynet. Anyway, on a positive note, clearly us humans have nothing to worry about.

The Chronicles of Riddick is actually my favorite Riddick movie - entertaining, adventurous, exciting. I heard a rumor about Basic Instinct 3 with Sharon Stone and Sebastian Stan. Sounds crazy but I'd love to see it

Charlies angels was so lame, they didn’t even bother to change the title, meaning you’ll have to identify the movie via year, instead of the title. This happened to ghostbusters too, except it was... more worse than ever.

I hate Directors Cuts. Right now I can't find the original T-2 DVD. All I can get is ones where they put in 17 minutes of extra-scenes. ( They suck! Who gives a damn really??!) I just want the theatrical version that everyone saw at the theaters and love.

johnnycatt they only really “advertised” it on Netflix. It’s rubbish. But it’s unfair to be on this list as all the other movies were released worldwide theatrically and failed. Shaft can’t be held to the same standard as most of the world had It almost immediately to stream.

I loved COR which actually made a lot of money in direct-to-DVD sales. Not sure if they counted that in their totals. In fact it was because of the DVD sales that they green-lit a sequel. The third movie "Riddick" unfortunately was just a rehash of Pitch Black. Riddick is a great concept, but they needed much better writers to make it fly.

If James Cameron had trully cared about the Terminator Franchise he would have continued the story after Salvation, Terminator need and end to it´s story, to show the end of the war between humans and machines, and not another half baked reboot

@@zengram I think we already have an ending in terminator 2. Judgement Day is prevented, all terminators are destroyed, Sarah and John live like a family happily ever after and the machines never rise up.

It’s baffling to find out that even if maybe she could be a nice person in real life, she is proven an SJW for making a Charlie’s Angels reboot that misunderstands and therefore screws up the worthy concept of female empowerment by wanting a female-dominated society instead of an equality-dominated one.

I think it's viewed as a sequel specifically because it recognizes previous entries in the franchise (in this case, the original TV series and two 2000's movies) as canon within the storyline. Reboots/remakes tend to run with the original idea, but either completely ignore previous entries or make noticeable changes to canon events.

I listened to Leslie Jones on Howard Stern a few days ago. She claimed that the all-female Ghostbusters script she read and was paid for was changed completely. Scenes were deleted, rewritten and directed badly. It kind of makes you wonder how too many people have their hands in the pie. I wonder what couldve been with many of these movies had they'd follow through with the original ideas and scripts.

Highlander II: The Quickening is a good example of a terrible sequel that should have killed the franchise but didn't. It had a budget of $34 million and only got $15.6 million at the box office, yet for some reason, they continued to make more movies.

To make matters worse why have the guy who wrote X-Men: The Last Stand to direct and write the screenplay for Dark Phoenix? Seriously Simon Kinberg ruined the Dark Phoenix Saga twice hopefully Disney and Marvel Studios introduce the Phoenix in a much better way in the future.

Shaft (2000), Terminator 1 and 2 (1984, 1991), Charlie's Angels (2000), Bruce Almighty (2003), Basic Instinct (1992), RoboCop (1987) and The Mask (1994) were moneymaking hit movies but several sequels and followups weren't quite great.

@@ManekiNeko1972 It is a bad movie. The ending is ridiculous, the reason why the aliens were on earth in the first place is ridiculous, the PC route it took is ridiculous. The story for Independence Day 1 was cheesy and in parts stupid (the virus...), but it was fun to watch, but the story of Independence Day 2 is just stupid. The effects are good, but I am pretty sure they won't stand the test of time, as most of the CGI stuff we got in the last 10 to 20 years won't.

Terminator: Dark Fate bombed critically because they killed off the one character that was the linchpin of the whole franchise: John Connor. The film was so predictably woke that longtime fans gave it a hard pass.

Not only that but they immediately introduced another "saviour" character so there was No reason to kill him off... The reason they did it was because they Specifically wanted to replace him with a Female. Their motives were pure Sexism and Misandry. The entire film was conceived out of bigotry and it shows.

I was surprised at how solid Doctor Sleep was. The cast was phenomenal and story well paced. I liked it a lot, though it wasn't;t perfect.

"The Chronicles of Riddick" was great when you put the video game in the mix. The story came together perfectly and made it entertaining. Plus, who doesnt like X to the Z....Xzibit as a main voice character in the game. 👍 ;)

I think it's viewed as a sequel specifically because it recognizes previous entries in the franchise (in this case, the original TV series and two 2000's movies) as canon within the storyline. Reboots tend to run with the original idea, but either completely ignore previous entries or make noticeable changes to canon events.

I definitely agree with almost every movie on this list, except Terminator Dark Fate. I just watched it and it was certainly entertaining for me. It was action packed, I thought it had good writing and the story line was pretty easy to follow. Im just speaking for me, but the other Terminator movies would have easily fit into this category but i know this was based on box office fails, not just bad movies in general.

Let's keep it real: The Son of a Mask could've been a decent follow up, even without Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz to reprise their roles respectively. The Biggest problem I have with this movie is the lack of it's jazzy stylized humor and charm, Even the animated television series did a better job staying true to it's material than this garbage, plus they don't have Officer Mitch Kellaway, he's the current protagonist of The Mask's dark horse comics.

You should have included this in your DIShonorable mentions: (1) Mortal Kombat: Annihilation - panned by both critics and fans despite making back its $30 million budget, to the point that a planned second sequel had to be cancelled due to the backlash. Only two of the cast members from the first film (Robin Shou as Liu Kang and Talisa Soto as Kitana) came back for this movie, and the movie's plot was so squashed together that even MK purists couldn't contend with it.

Blade Runner is a cult classic and there was no way that is enough ppl to see the sequel and also was way to long, its nearly 3 hrs which would've scared some ppl off who r not familiar with the original.

No they don’t. It shouldn’t matter if movies are either recent or from the 20th Century AD. Even if because technology is far more free more unlimited than in the 20th Century so that early 21st Century films could have bigger budgets that become much smaller because they bomb harder than 20th Century box-office bombs.

I agree, having been a movie fan my whole life. When you make a squeal that nobody asked for, it is pretty likely that is going flop. Especially if it has been ten years or longer since the original. The Incredibles 2 got lucky since it is a Disney/ Pixar movie and their fanbase is pretty big.

"Basic instinct 2" starts wrong from the title itself. At very least it needed some sort of tagline-title to go with it, but ideally that kind of movie would have "basic instinct" inserted in a larger title or something, if anything.

Girl In the Spider Web... who thought this was a good idea??? The first movie was amazing, and the 2nd & 3rd books in the trilogy were even better... BUT someone thought making an original story for the sequel that’s not based off the books was a good idea???? Of course it failed, it failed the fans of the series on concept alone! What if Harry Potter 2-7(8) were fan fiction instead of JK Rawlings writing???
