Top 10 Oud Fragrances - For a Beginner

Күн бұрынSo yes before we get into it, I have smelt some real varieties of oud before and I understand there are many different types. Generally in our "Western" style ones it's accords that tend to be used and I'm cool with that. Also I'm not a snob just cos some have a so called "funky" element... That is not what oud is about at all, yes sometimes it can begin that way.
I have no issue to be fair whether there is or isn't oud as long as it smells good and we are paying for what is advertised... If it claims to have it in, well it should have it present, and more than a breath's worth.
I don't have issues with these so called "Middle Eastern" cheap fragrances, effectively the equivalent of Axe/Lynx, and of course they don't have real oud and if they have any at all it's not gonna be the best quality is it now. I'm confused how clones of popular stuff is also called "middle Eastern"? The name? 🤔 But aye whatever.
So yes 🤣 these are some of my favourites from my collection or what I'm very familiar with. Whether they do or don't contain "real oud" is by the by and some probably don't contain real "rose" I'm not gonna have a cow over that either.

I love this list! It really shows how oud can be gentle and soft and warm. If you listened to videos in 2020, you would have the impression that strong bombastic in your face oud was the only way it was used. Oud Rosewood is sooo good 😊 it's taken me a while with oud, because the first ones I smelt were cheap accords with saffron that weren't pleasant. Happy I persisted! I agree though, some oud accords are sometimes absolutely fine. 😊

Yes that weird screechy "Oud" and "saffron" can be horrific. And the idea that it's always something "funky" is crazy too. It's really beautiful. Yes I adore Oud rosewood 😍 so classy. It's a truly incredible note and I don't think I'd ever get sick of it

So well done, love your unique reviews of these & all the fun inserts. I don’t think I have any oud frags - def none with that pukey caramel crap in - but let me double check: Nope! Hmmmm… maybe something to sample this year!😊

Hello 👋 It was an 'oud' that nudged me into the collecting rabbit hole - Pino Silvestre Oud Absolute & years later I still crave oud in all its guises 😊 Have you come across Sultan Noir by Pascal Morabito? Surprisingly decent 'oud' for something so affordable 😉

No but thank you for the recommendation 😊 and yes. There's something so hypnotic and addictive about it isn't there. It really does draw you in. Maybe like a first beer we wonder what the fuss is about but then we wanna try more

It's kind of an old refrain with Kilian, isn't it? All the good stuff is gone. ☹ Great video, Jon. I just need to accept the fact that oud is never going to be one of my favorite notes. I don't mind it, but I don't seek it out.

Yes it's definitely not for us all but that's cool too. There's so much for us to love 😊. Yes I was so disappointed to smell the absolutely "not reformulated" 😉 newer version of Pearl Oud.
