She’s Ukrainian, singing in a combination of English and Crimean Tatar. The song is called 1944 and is about the Russian Army’s practical destruction of the Tatar’s during the 2nd World War (the first line is “when strangers are coming, they come to your house, they kill you all, then say, “we’re not guilty”). First sang by Jamala if anyone wants to have a listen on here :) X

2:02 1944 what Elina Ivashchenko sang is not an easy song, and I am sure that Tina Karol and Elina worked for a very long time to perfect it. Tina is a wonderful coach! And I have never felt this harmony between coach and her padawan so deeply. ❤❤❤❤🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

That's the most beautiful thing about music, being able to appreciate people whose voices transcend merely genre or the song itself. They make you feel emotion, because they have beauty and expression comparable to actual physical ART. It's why I love music so much, an art form that has enough diveristy for almost anyone to find appreciation in it.

RoxAnn she was singing about lost generations that were forced to migrate under Stalin reigns, emotions she shared were even stronger knowing that she is also lost generation as she is orphan and she dedicated her road on the voice to her mother. I guess there are some forces on this world that can move mountains without touching them and Elina is living proof of that.
