Mine was Ash versus Paul. It was so satisfying to see Infernape get his payback and beat up Electivire. Too bad that Tobias fight was right after. What a crappy way to end it.

For me, I love Ash vs Sawyer and Ash vs Paul. When Ash faced Paul, it was just so satisfying after all the crap he took from Paul and being unable to beat him, he finally takes him down and with Infernape (from the Chimcar Paul let go). And then with Sawyer, he was just a fanatic kid taking notes but those notes helped him grow into a strong trainer. Which let him have a great battle against Ash. Sceptile versus Greninja was fun

Even though Leon was spectacular, I think Paul truly was the definition of pushing Ash to be his best even if he was ass while doing it. The story line building up to the Sinnoh League was just perfect❤❤😊😊

@@wikiuser92 Paul was the one who pushed him to be the best. Ash and Paul rivalry was more than battle of strength, it was battle of philosophy. Paul was a trainer who focused on Pokemon's raw power and that friendship was waste of time. But Ash was the opposite of that who strongly supported bonds he had with his pokemon. He had to beat Paul to prove that his beliefs were correct. Losing to Leon would be okay because he was undefeated champion for a while. But losing to Paul was not an option.

@@jetguy128 I am not devaluing the philosophical battle with Paul. I'm just saying that in defeating Leon, Ash achieved a much bigger victory than any ordinary League win.

@@wikiuser92 That may be true.Ash vs Leon was really great. If Ash vs Leon was 10/10 then Ash vs Paul was 15/10 because it was really developed well since beginning of DP. Let's not forget Paul is the only trainer whom Ash had 2 full battles

Honorable mention, Ash vs Tobias. Ash was the only person ever to bring down Tobias's Darkrai, making him have to use more than one pokemon.

Actually, I didn't expect that. In any discussion with fans of the show you'll see 'Ash vs Alain', 'Ash vs Saywer', 'Ash vs Paul' and 'Ash vs Leon' be considered a better fight. Also 'Ash vs Kukui' which is easily one of the best in the entire show but didn't make the list somehow.

Im actually really happy with this ranking. In a previous pokemon battle ranking, half of the spots were taken from season 1, due to being “iconic” as the first. I was happy to see that this ranking actually took way more battles into account from way later seasons, where battles were more flashy Wont disagree with the placing of Gary though, that fight was truly one to behold

The Ash vs Leon battle was the best in the entire anime. That battle was so intense and made it look like Ash was gonna lose multiple times. That should very easily have been #1. And Ash vs Paul should've been #2. Paul is the exact definition of a true rival. Yeah Gary was mean to Ash, but he never actually hated Ash. Paul actually hated Ash. Paul actually defeated Ash so badly in a 6v6 Pokémon battle that all of Ash's Pokémon got badly hurt where they all had to go to the Pokémon center. Not only that but he also made Ash lose all his confidence. Paul is Ash's ultimate rival.

I get you wanting to include a Unova league rival, but everyone knows that Trip was a god awful one and the fight between his Serperior and Ash's Pikachu was underwhelming at best. Even the writer's knew that Trip was a waste of a character rival for Ash. I would argue to replace that fight with Stephen and Ash's fight in the same conference. That was a well better fight and it showed not through the battles between Stephen's Liepard, Zebstrika, and Sawk, vs Ash's Palpitoad, Leavanny, and Krookodile, but also through both characters growing and getting their own wins through that particular series.

should have used the japanese dub for clips from kalos region the music adds to the intense fight always the dub music for kalos fights the finishing blow music really whats that a kids fight ??? hey watch mojo next use the japanese dub from kalos region and beyond coz u have it in no.2 having the first japanese opening in the end is the hype for a final climatic battle

Top 3 was well deserved, even if Ash vs Leon in the Masters 8 Tournament is the one I would put at number 1. Ash vs Gary is number 3 for me, unless you count Professor Kukui/Masked Royal as a rival. In that case, Ash vs Gary is number 4. Still, the top 5 is still high praise from the great fights. Ash vs Trip honestly didn't need to be on the list, as it felt underwhelming. Aside of that, I do agree with the list. Part 4 of Ash vs Leon is peak fiction. My favorite Pokémon episode period and nothing can top this monumental fight gave Ash.

Ash v Alain, Sawyer, then Leon would be my top 3. So well choreographed and animated. But Paul's was the most satisfying. Something makes me wish Ash and Gary had ooooone more league battle but I get that his story was done.

I'm surprised Ash vs Kukui didn't make it on the list. The end bit with Tapu Koko and Pikachu alone was incredible, and yes he counts as a rival given that his Incineroar was significant in Litten's development to Incineroar at the end.
