Fun Fact! Elon was on the board of Paypal and wanted to change the name to X. The board didn't like that and promptly kicked him off the board.

The change of the Twitter logo is unforgivable. Any idiot and their mother can (and probably will) use an "x" in the name/logo of their company. The little blue bird was original and perfectly representative for what the site stood for, but now Twitter has a logo that might as well be that of a pornographic website. Give us back the little blue bird! 💢💢

I strongly suspect that most Twitter users are going to keep calling it Twitter instead of X. It’s too deeply ingrained in the public consciousness. Of all of Elon Musk’s blunders, this is the biggest one so far.

Coke 's blunder was so bad that for the next 35 years after New Coke, they added "CLASSIC" after Coca-Cola just to let everyone know it was the classic formula. Some argue it was planned, which worked, and Coke sales reverted upward. In 2019, they finally dropped the "classic".

At least that was only the parent company that rebranded itself - they didn't mess with the actual Facebook site in the same way that Musk is doing with Twitter.

Honorable Mentions: 20th Century Fox (Replacing the iconic name and brand into a soulless version of itself in order to avoid confusion after the Disney Disastrous Acquisition which was a HUGE Mistake and a Crime against Humanity) Sprout (Comcast Acquired PBS KIDS Sprout and rebranded it into just “Sprout” or “The Sprout” (which was called back then) before it got rebranded into Universal Kids) Peter Piper Pizza (The Current Logo was Changed in order to pander to the current state of our culture and it was a crime against humanity and the previous logo of the early 2000s was iconic and it deserved better)! Twitter (Now called “X” what’s next Elon, are you gonna Rebrand Sonic the Hedgehog into “Sonic X” oh wait, that name already existed and it was a series sorry Elon but Sonic did it!) Telefutura (now called Unimas which was very unforgivable)

As a lifelong Sprout fan, I say Universal Kids - they haven’t been active on social media that much as of late, they air DreamWorks shows, and Gabby's Dollhouse has seemed to go to Nick Jr. instead (probably because it was made by the same people behind Blue's Clues), and they seem to air the same shows, a far cry from when they used to air Sprout shows to revive ratings. And to add salt to wound, NBCUniversal has seemed to forget UniKids' roots!

One of the strangest rebrandings I remember from my childhood was when the 2 major credit cards both changed their names. MasterCharge became MasterCard in 1979, and BankAmericard became Visa in 1976. Even though I was a kid (12 in '76 and 15 in '79) I thought it was really weird.

The BP rebranding was followed by even worse ones in oil and gas where recognizable companies changed their names to sound like treatments for venereal diseases: Coterra, Ovintiv, Equinor to name a few.

I noticed that the logo for twitter was changed when trying to view a profile and that the SciFi logo has changed, too. Someone mentioned the twitter logo on Discord. I had no idea about the other rebrand fails. I didn't notice the yahoo logo has changed and I go to yahoo to check emails or save things on draft. Also, my mom and I use to watch part of a movie on SciFi.

Honestly I think the biggest rebound fail it's probably Twitter switching to X I would have been fine for the company but not for the site I yai yai I guess once management switches in like a few years they Switchback Twitter but by the time that happens formerly Twitter will be a lot different and not be used as much probably

The new coke wasnt some random endeavor. They tested it and it tested well and consistently beat the original and pepsi in their taste testing. It was only nostalgia after the fact that caused it to fail.

Twitter into X is bad, but also there's the fact of Intel, a computer company. Its logo and theme song rebrands are going insane! First, it's a neat jingle, then a trumpet blare. Then, it was shorter and the wrong pitch! The old glory days were the best! Why, Intel? WHY?
