Some of the links above are to products I use or have used at some point and feel they are good enough to share with you. Some of these links may be affiliate links where I would receive compensation if you were to purchase them. The money earned from these affiliate links goes into making videos, just like this one. Keep in mind, I only recommend products that I’ve used and I believe will help others be successful with keeping a saltwater aquarium. Thank you for your support and Happy Reefing!

One man's pest is another man's "treasure".. ;) I think the sea spiders are incredibly cool, so I've just put 10+ of them in my cold water tank! (Not this kind though admittedly). They are a hungry bunch, but as long as they got hydroids to munch on, they seem happy enough!

Hey Jeff, I noticed small round,white specks (probably 3 or 4) on my zoas near the base. Next I know the head of the zoa is cut off. Would this be consistent with the zoa spider?
@MadHattersReef

They typically don’t look like specks. They look just like I spider.

I just wanna know how to remove the aiptasia from my new zoa frag. It's so close to the polyps, its stinging them, and the foot is at the base and partly attached to both the plug and base of the frag.. idk how to remove it, I'm pretty sure theres 2 more TEENY tiny ones attached to the polyps themselves. I SO need advice.

The best luck I had was peppermint shrimp. They seem to enjoy eating the small ones and my largest peppermint shrimp took out a huge aiptasia one night. I first assumed it was too big for it but I think he was just waiting on it. I would definitely limit it to 1 per tank in reefs less than 30 gallons. The largest specimens seem to be cannibalistic (that or my other peppermints were killed/eaten by something else but that doesn’t seem as likely given my lack of predatory fish/inverts).

Hi Geoff, I notice what looks like a white maggots creatures on the base of my torch, I pulled them off and hot rid of them, but since then there are even more on now and I can see them on the rocks and on the glass. Do you know what they could be? Also would a wrasse get rid of them? I'll upload a quick video and link it here.

I just killed two aiptasia last night. Possibly three, as I saw one in the return chamber of my 16g biocube, but I am not sure if the Aiptasia X made its way into its mouth (I can't fit my hand or arm back there, so I kinda just spray and pray). One of the two I know I got was right next to my Starburst Monti Cap, so hopefully it did die and did not manage to hide before it could ingest the Aiptasia X and explode. If it does turn out to be alive still...then I will probably order some berghia nudis to deal with the jerk.
@ruben4324
@ruben4324 4 жыл бұрын
forget about aiptasia X. These suckers wont die, they just will be "burned" and regrow in a couple weeks (at max). Besides that, small pieces of anemone are going to detach from the main aiptasia and settle elsewhere. Biological ways is the only way I found to keep your mind sane when fighting these inmortal gods.

@@ruben4324 If you're desperate to get rid of them and not all your life rock isn't infested I recommend this. Take the rock out and put it in a bucket of boiling hot water and leave it there for an hour and a half. After blast it with cold hose water and then it dry for a couple hours.

@@fishfan2I’ve heard boiling live rock risks releasing toxins into the air, especially if you boil Zoanthids or palythoa. Not worth the risk.

@@John_Doe_6996 It 100% does if you have Zoanthids and Palythoas, but my live rock only had aipstasia so i just nuked it

My advice is to not buy fish and coral from corporate owned LFS’s. Your tank will most likely stay free from pests. I learned the hard way.
