Today, we will take a look at communities that have higher-than-average populations of African Americans. These prestigious neighborhoods are where African Americans are succeeding in terms of income, homeownership, and academic achievement. Since this Top 10 list highlights *communities*, we have selected predominately black neighborhoods with less than 30,000 people and our researchers have factored basic indicators such as cost of living, economic equality, and livability.

I live in Maryland. Trust me blacks live well in Maryland. There are so many jobs and opportunities for our people. If you have the DESIRE to work come to Maryland whatever your education level is you will find work. I love living in Maryland. I live like 20 miles outside of Washington D.C. I am between 2 to 4 hours from several major cities. I love the diversity! Come check it out for yourself!

I was born in BMore but raised on the westcoast (military brat). Im so excited to hear this and know that my birth state is a place that we are flourishing. My career is progressing and I plan to return to Maryland once my kids graduate.

Chuck Brown Yes, many areas of MD have a lot of upper middle to upper class black families. I remember one predominantly black high school (can’t remember which city in PG county) was reprimanded because all of the black children did extremely well on SAT and ACT. They actually outscored whites AND Asians. The school was accused of cheating. The dumb ass media didn’t realize that the black children of black doctors, attorneys, accountants, engineers, university professors and high level government workers are socialized to value education, college and academics just like their parents did.

I am white and have lived in PG County for 38 years. Moved to the Bowie four years ago and love it. Wealthiest, educated predominately black community in the US and it's a wonderful place to live.

@@mkariymah I understand what you are sayingI live in Philly and we have a neighborhood called mount airy and thats predominately black and they have taken great care if that neighborhood. I respect that and the state of Maryland because people take care of their homes. I just want us to continue to grow and pass our knowledge and our homes tonour children so they can do the same for the next generation.

If you teach yourself discipline if needed, or seek a normal mentor, you are on your way! Also, young people who hold ofc on pregnancies, until they are financially sound accelerate their path to the GOOD life! Yes, N become SAVERS, rather con- sumers. Buy tv's, etc. from yard sales, thrift stores, don't be psyched out into changing phones , which only contributes to billionaire companies, take care of the clothes you have, etc.!!!! Study, ask for tutors, BELEIVE N WORK FOR TOWARDS YOUR DREAMS. LEARN TO DO WITHOUT; THUS, AVOIDING THE INSTANT GRATIFICATION TRAP!!! Look forward to getting more stuff, later , when you can afford it. Then consider the stuff, being land ownership!! You surely can do it!! Godspeed!! Of course, illegal substances inflicted on one's body is not going to be good for having the successful life you are working on!

Maryland is one of the wealthiest states if not thee wealthiest state in the country. There are soo many other states and communities that will out rate Atlanta. Atlanta is known for their hip hop influence and trendy fashions.

I’m exceedingly proud of the tradition of Black wealth and giving back to the community that has been the tradition in Atlanta since its first Black millionaires in the late 1800’s. I think it’s great to celebrate African American success through out the country. I realize, however, that not many are informed of Atlanta’s amazing history that birthed so many champions of commerce and leaders. Thank God for Atlanta! :)

@SBLACKW C My next door neighbors are a black family living amongst all white people and I've gotta say that when we moved in, they were the first ones to greet us and welcome us to the area. They keep an eye on our home and pets. I couldn't ask for better neighbors. They also feed us from time to time if she is cooking something she knows we enjoy, she always sends some over. We do for them as well. My point is that we should all be able to live in peace no matter where.

Hi Mimi.....the interest rates should be coming down for home mortgages in NY. Can I suggest getting a multi-family property in Bronx, NY.....build equity and tap the equity to pay for your house in cash in Maryland if you decide to move there? I usually takes at least 10 years to build a decent amount of equity (not sure you want to wait that long). 20 years ago, God blessed me with a multi-family home in Brooklyn and I tapped into the equity and bought a NICE brand new home in Orlando, FL paid for in cash. Everybody has a different strategy just thought I'd share some ideas with a native New Yorker......LOL. Stay blessed and have a nice summer.

Mocha B the Bronx always feels far from Manhattan. And the parts that are closest to Manhattan are places you don’t really wanna be. Loud dirty. Riverdale I’ve been told is nice, but it is faaaar. And if you ever wanna go to Brooklyn that’s a 2 hour train ride.

I’m proud to say that I live in Brandywine, MD and I love my community. It used to be a very rural area and it’s now builded up to include nice shopping centers and restaurants. It’s a quiet and safe place to live. ❤️

You certainly won't. Nor will major newspapers print positive ads about Black wealth. New York Times ran an ad a few weeks ago with a heading that read something like: Why Young Black Boys Will NEVER earn as much as....I wanted to respond in kind because I hate when Black people believe negative information that other people tell us about ourselves--and nobody make a move to set them straight. Negative news articles can discourage young Blacks from trying to succeed if they believe the cards are stacked against them.

Do this: Get into IT (Cloud Technology, If you get good, you could potentially make 200K+), try to get a job in the "DC area", or what is now known as the DMV, move to PG County MD specifically (you get the best bang for your buck, and you get yard space), research some of the home builders, like Caruso, Marrick, KH, Ryan, etc. If it seems simple, well it is. You may come up with your own strat, but this is what I did. Good luck!

Absolutely. It is the ticket to success for women especially. However, be wise about how you finance your education: always apply for Pell Grants; search for scholarships because there are all types for different recipients- small and large; work for employers who offer tuition assistance.

Go to DC itself next to PG...its comparable to SF or NYC. ...my LA wife lol learned that the hard way saying how crowded and expensive LA was...I just laughed at her.Her eyes widened , mouth dropped and she finally said ok...this ain't LA and she's never going back there.

While you're at it, may I suggest you do your bachelor's or masters degree at Howard University in DC. It is one of the top black universities in America, and also a stone's throw from PG county in MD. That's how I stumbled into MD. I couldn't believe how well black ppl are doing out there. Neighborhoods looking fresh and well manicured. Black owned businesses galore. I only left to chase my dreams in NYC.

I've lived in PG County for 21 years, this is true but missing the mighty UPPER MARLBORO. Me and my wife are currently building a house in Beechtree upper Marlboro in a golf course community "Lake Presidential". I don't own a college degree yet this area allows me to make six figure income, I've got nothing but love for Maryland/PG County.

There are some majority Black neighborhoods in the Atlanta area that are as nice or nicer than most of these neighborhoods but the houses cost less and inhabitants have less income so they don't make the list.

In Atlanta we tend to establish affluent subdivisions outside of cities. Look up the Wellington Creek Estates. Excellent affluent rural community.

Media doesn't influence what I've seen and KNOWN, with my OWN eyes. I'm referring to a major urban area Yes, in an urban area, growing up, I've seen some "poverty", but most people, no where near affluent as we know it today, HAD PRIDE in their appearance and behavior, their abode-not necessarily houses, their children's manners and appearance, etc...! As a teenager it was awesome (in retrospect) growing up around upper middle class and well to do black families. There was little to no crime, clean neighborhood, everyone looking out for one another, your neighbors speak to you or at the very least acknowledged your presence, the grown ups would inspire us to succeed, once in a while a celebrity may move in the neighborhood for a minute....I would imagine for the privacy. Everyone knew the stranger in the neighborhood... those lurking around. And police officers respond quickly in those neighborhoods. Although I never ever saw one cop car growing up in Fort Washington. (Wow, that just hit me while typing this) I went to Friendly High School waaaaayyy back in the day. I loved that school so hard! Go Patriots!!! It’s a great place to raise a family. Hard working, church going, educated, proud black folk. Everyone didn’t have a degree, they just worked their way up in their organization/Company like my father...and brother. I don’t live there anymore... My mother and some old class mates still live in F.W. I remember the unity in my neighborhood. I miss that!! We never saw the adults fight or argue in the streets... It’s a great place to raise a family. I wasn’t surprised to see Fort Washington or Friendly Maryland in the Top Ten! Keep your head down, work consistently, be smart with your dollars and invest your faith in God and your goals.

There are plenty of suburbs in Atlanta, GA which has tons of African American middle to upper class communities that are Golf, Lake, and gated depending on location mostly valued from 250k to 600k or higher. This is why it's great to travel and experience life, so you can see for yourself what's out here and not have to depend on the media. There are tons of other states that have these communities such as North Carolina, Virginia, Alabama, and Texas from a southern perspective. What I've noticed about the Public Schools in these great communities, it's not about the family's income but the family's values that these children are raised with, money alone has never raised a well respected child. Just because the income is good, doesn't mean your children are unless you teach them values and have more impact on their lives than the shows, social media, and music that is constantly fighting to win them over. *I'd like to give a challenge to everyone to search within your state for one of these communities, may not be the top 10 but it's still great nonetheless!! I find this very encouraging for our nation as a whole. More black affluence should be on display, and not just the athletes and entertainers. I especially loved the story of the one neighborhood where "traditional" real estate companies overlooked the sweet ass vacation ready spot because of the demographics, and then boom! A real family business style community rose up on it's own, where the people that live there do business with the people that live there, and since the 1960's. That's a point of pride for anyone anywhere. Was a cool video to see.

I moved to Fort Washington, MD after being in NJ for elementary and middle school. GO PATRIOTS-- My high school is in Friendly. I feel so blessed to have grown up there. It's beautiful aesthetically and emotionally to see all of US everywhere. It gave me a perspective that we are successful, intelligent and resilient all with our own swag. This is confirmation that, if you work hard and continue to strive for excellence - we can and will thrive. I'm an Residential Appraiser of High Value properties, I've been in these fabulous homes, met wonderful families and driven through these absolutely, amazing gated, Black communities, with beautiful, Black families eith all the toys, too! Foreign cars, trucks, motorcycles - you name it. It touched me so much I nearly had tears in my eyes. I didn't know Black gated, communities existed. I knew of one in Atlanta, GA. It is very inspiring. Most of us don't know. Thank you for sharing. Not actors, singers or basketball players - just hardworking, educated Black people. This is so refreshing.

I live in PG County. Most of us work in Washington DC, but live in the suburbs of PG County. A lot of us are doctors, lawyers or work within the federal government. I grew up in Largo, MD which is not too far from Woodmore and Lake Arbor. Very lovely area... still holds a special place in my heart ❤️

I'm from down south in Texas and i don't see a lot of black communities striving like that. Seeing this channel inspired me to go and seek out wealthy black communities. I thought ATL was it but it's not.

Great video good to see so many wealthy black communities. While I knew there were areas of successful mostly black communities I didn’t realize Maryland had so many. I’d rather watch these type of videos over the ghetto scenes and fights you always see of black people on KZfaq, Facebook and other sites.

NoOne NoOneAtAll---True! I would highly recommend starting a business, especially as an African American. I'm a black woman with a Master's degree in business and I had the hardest time getting a descent paying job. I decided to start my own business. No one will tell me how much I'm worth! I"ll let my hard work determine that.

I absolutely love this video, I live in one of these beautiful prosperous black communities. I feel truly blessed because I'm a high school graduate who did not have the opportunity to attend college, but was still able to become a successful entrepreneur and build the life I desired with my wonderful husband of 48 years. I am pleased and quite surprised that Maryland has so many successful black people.

This made me tear up. I was born and raised in MD and you always hear how MD is one of the wealthiest states in America but no one ever mentions how my people are THRIVING down here! They always go straight to looking at Baltimore and how black people are living in poverty and it’s sad.

Third Ward Trill TWT, Why do think the powers that be will always show black people in a negative environment? Its called brainwashing, the more you see of the bad the more they'll put it out there. I think that problem within our community is that we always worried about what white people will think instead of us, but forgetting the truth that you just viewed. It's a shame that more black people aren't watching these types of videos. What I'm trying to say don't worry about the man only concern yourself of what is truly important. God bless us all.

I’m from Baltimore and did not know about these types of community in PGC. I always knew that PGC was one of the richest counties in Maryland, I thought it was predominantly white wealthy people in most of these areas. Never knew we were outchea!!!!

Listen I didn't vote for Trump nor Hillary so when I say this remember that. I live in MD and Trump in all actuality only quoted word for word what a journalist of ours said, look it up. She has a video of these places they do exist. I've seen it in real life so I know. Cummings is not doing a very good job at all, the cleanliness of PG (Prince George's) has more to do with the people living there and their home owner associations then it does with Cummings. That's all I'm going to say because the rest is our business here in MD. Like I said, I didn’t vote for him but I do believe in being fair so if you get on him do it for something he's actually guilty of.

@@sunflowercrimson2771 I think trump needs to sweep around his own front porch before he goes pointing a finger at someone else. Have you ever been to new York? Have you ever rode the subway or the El train for that matter? Have you ever been to Penn Station? Have you ever drove through the Bronx or Jamaica Queens? You could get on the train in Queens and end up in the east river butt naked if you're not careful! But the REAL problem is that a REAL president would look for a solution to these problems rather than point them out in very child like lashing out sessions.

I’m from LA, wasn’t surprised Park View-Windsor Hills and Ladera Heights made the list. It is an affluent area of African Americans situated in what I think is a prime area of LA.
