One of the most unnerving moments for me was actually from The Strangers. It was the scene with Liv Tyler by herself in the kitchen smoking a cigarette, but very discreetly, in the background, you see the Man in the Mask slowly, partially emerge from the shadows and just stand there. Camera shifts view for a few seconds and then goes back...he's gone.

That movie fucked me up for a bit. They did the suspense and terror so amazingly. The thought of being in your house, and being watched......such an invasive feeling. I remember I saw this not too long after I had my house broken into, it's a really violating and uneasy feeling you get when you realize your supposed "safe space" has been invaved, so that scene felt all too real to me.

Some of the scariest movie scenes for me were: 1. Pet Sematary (1989)- Zelda scenes 2. The Exorcist III- Hospital jumpscare 3. Misery- Hobbling scene 4. Black Christmas- The first kill 5. Scream- The opening sequence 6. The Exorcist- Head spin While it's not a movie, The Twilight Zone episode called "Twenty Two" has always terrified me since I was a little kid. Hospitals creep me out and the nurse with the creepy smile walking out of the morgue still creeps me out. I'm terrified of spiders, so as a kid, some non-Horror choices: 1. Son of Godzilla- Kumonga, the giant spider kaiju, freaked me out. 2. Spider-Man: Peter is bitten 3. The Amazing Spider-Man: A bunch of spiders fall on Peter and he is bitten.

One of my scariest movie moments was actually in Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. While the movie itself is more comedic than frightening, I think it has one of the best jump scares in horror history. The entire scene where Stretch first meets Chop-Top in her studio and nervously tries to get him to leave only for Leatherface to pop out of the record room with his chainsaw scared the crap out of me. "Dog will hunt" indeed. Another great one is in Friday the 13th Part 2 where Jason bursts through the window and grabs Ginny. The fake-out with Muffin actually fooled me into thinking nothing was going to happen, so you can imagine my surprise when an unmasked Jason suddenly crashes through the small window behind Ginny in slow motion. Honestly, I think this jump scare is on par with Jason popping out of the water at the end of the first film. I even re-watched Parts 1 and 2 recently with my sister (who is also a big horror fan) and those scenes actually made her scream out loud. God, I love the classics.

For me the scariest movie moment of all time is in The Babadook when we see the updated version of the book. The sound design and the camera work (is that the right term?) just come together to make a scene that is absolutely terrifying. Both times that I saw The Babadook it was in the middle of the night, in pitch darkness, so yeah, scary. That whole scene just unnerved me for the rest of the movie, and the scene immediately after where the Babadook calls the house just adds to that. It takes a fair bit to scare me, but that stands out as the scariest movie moment of all time.

Two from the Exorsist, the famous "lick me" scene. That whole scene to this day is hard for me to watch and the crucifix deal in that scene, and the spider walk scene where Linda Blair runs down the stairs and spits out blood. One that's not The Exorsist. The graveyard scene from It. The music makes that movie. I did see an Exorcist reboot in 2021 is coming, great video.

The crucifix scene from beginning to end is sheer chaos. The shot leading up to the room is so effective in setting up the most terrifying in any movie ever. The camera leading you up the stairs and into a screaming girls room, opening the door to find a girls possessions flying across the room, her masturbating with a crucifix, yelling obscenities, demanding her mother to lick her, smacking her mother across the face sending her flying (this is where Ellen Burnstyn got hurt in real life), the dresser being moved telepathically moved across the floor, and then of course her head turning around 180 degrees to imply that Reagan killed Dennings….jeez that scene is a whirlwind. More happens in that scene than in most movies I can think of. The movie literally changes. It goes from “I dunno, could be anything” to “K, this kid is definitely housing a demon in her”. You feel the fear and helplessness in the parent, feel (some) characters realize that there’s no doubt this girl is possessed, and leave that scene as drained as the mother. This is the most terrifying and mentally destructive scene ever caught on film. You actually question the sanity of the writer, director, and ratings board. How did this movie ever get a green light with an R rating? I’m not sure, but I’m glad it did because this scene is terrifying and effective in selling what it happening. I love Jaws and all but sorry, a bunch of guys talking about a shark attack on a boat doesn’t hold a candle.

A scary moment for me is the scene in the bedroom of “darkness falls” in the beginning when the tooth fairy is making all those screeching noises, also the basement scene in Dead Silence with young Henry use to scare me

@@skyofthelivingdead Maybe it's because fake blood is often so over the top that it just comes off as entertaining to me. This is probably why slasher and torture films never disturbed me. Broken bones, however, just seem much more...realistic.

The lawn mower jumpscare in Sinister scared the shit out of me, or any of the tapes in Sinister, but also possibly Annie's possession in Hereditary, or Charlie's death in Hereditary, the craziest part is that I had already seen Charlie and the lawn mower scene before the movie

The beginning of "Final Destination 2" (log truck/freeway pileup). A couple of scenes from "Ghost Story" with Alice Krige. Quite a bit of "Body Parts" w/Jeff Fahey and Brad Dourif. I remember the DVD art was the killer walking along, silhouetted against a fire, carrying two dismembered legs. That pretty much sums up the film!

Dude such a good list Cody, I forgot how eerie that scene from babadook was and also remembered there’s a scene in there where once the mothers possessed she’s chasing her son and starts banging her head on the door and it’s very reminiscent of the scene in hereditary when the mother gets possessed, starts chasing her son and starts banging her head on the attic door. Babadook did it first obviously but just something I noticed now. Love your content.

The one that really got in my head was the first Pazuzu face flash in the Exorcist. The way Regan was laid back and staring into what could only be the spiraling void and then you catch the glance of the demon’s humanoid face. It was the very reason I was afraid of the dark for 10 solid years.
