+Geno actually well Vader almost took over the universe, at least another galaxy or two he could've done. Remember he nearly single handedly took over the galaxy while Palpatine sat on his ass and storm troopers can't hit sh!t. The rebels knew he was building a super weapon that could destroy entire planets, and they didn't sucsessfully stop him, he was pretty powerful and at least took over one Galaxy, you gotta admit that's impressive.

Can we discuss what they did to Ron's charecter? In book: snape calls Hermione a know it all and Ron jumps to he defense saying something along the lines of "you asked a question and she knows the answer if you didn't want to know then don't ask"(paraphrasing) In the movie: "he's got a point, you know" -Ron.

Thing I hated most about these movies was how they treated Ron. I mean it's Harry's story, but at the center of whole story is golden trio. Ron is Harry's best friend and confidant, but in movies it was golden duo and some annoying hangaround who follows them. And they changed Hermione and made her perfect superwoman, when in books she's smart but has flaws.

Actually Harry's and Voldemort's wands connect only once, during the battle in the graveyard (Goblet of Fire). It's called the "Priori Incantatem", which forces the wands to regurgitate the last spells they've cast, in this case, Voldemort's last spell was "Avada Kedavra" and the wand started spewing back the spirits of those whose lives it's taken. It's an extremely rare phenomenon that happens only when two wands with the same core from the same source (in that case, a phoenix feather from Fawkes) lock in combat and the spells duel becomes a willpower struggle. Unlike the movies, which connect every wand in every battle after the Goblet of Fire. The final duel between harry and voldemort is decided when both cast their signature spells: Harry with Expeliarmus and Voldemort with Avada Kedavra. Both spells collide mid-air and (with a cannon blast sound) rebound Voldemort's spell against himself, killing him, because the Elder Wand refused to harm Harry, its true master. Voldemort drops to the floor like an ordinary human being and that's that.

Yeah even other characters in the film had this happen with wands, in The Deathly Hallows (Part 2). It happened when Kingsley Shacklebolt and Professor Lupin were together defending Hogwarts. They were high up inside the castle. One of Voldemorts lot came in possibly through a window, and I think his and Lupin's wands connected. (Might have been Kingsley's, but I can't remember.)
@DieysonGomesCC
@DieysonGomesCC 2 жыл бұрын
@@threecats8219 Dumbledore and Voldemort also connect their wands in the battle at the ministry of magic (Dumbledore is wielding the Elder Wand and Voldemort, his Phoenix Feather one, mind you). Even Mr. Weasley had his wand connected with a random Deatheater in Deatly Hallows pt 2. I mean, it's a quite a spectacle to see, much like the connecting kamehamehas in Dragon Ball, but it totally breaks the logic of the books and the statement made after Harry and Voldemort's Priori Incantatem in The Goblet of Fire movie. And it takes away the uniqueness of Harry and Voldemort's connection as mortal enemies.
@threecats8219
@threecats8219 2 жыл бұрын
@@DieysonGomesCC Was it Mr Weasley, when Kingsley Shacklebolt was there. I said above it was Lupin, and I remember that time; am sure it was Lupin. Uness Me Weasley did it too, or I got it wrong thinking Lupin. You're right though. Using the visuals of Priori Incantatum for more than the graveyard fight with Harry and Voldemort, did spoil things somewhat. You sort of had to just allow artistic licence for it. However Priori Incantatum was described somewhat by Dumbledore in Goblet of Fire movie. It's a bit confusing and hard to overlook whne you know it's there.

Another thing they forgot to mention, Kreacher’s turned around attitude. In the books when Harry returned Kreacher the locket, Kreacher was filled with passion and gratitude for Harry returning his master Regulus’s locket. He even showed courtesy to Hermione somewhat by doing an “awkward bow” Since Hermione was of muggle background he always called her Mudblood but the kind gesture Harry gave made Kreacher try and be respectful there on and it caused the Black house to become more homelike for the three whilst they were on the travels. Up until when they had to leave since they were caught.

In The Order of the Phoenix book, they found the locket Horcrux in Sirius's house. At the time not knowing what it was. They could not open it although they tried many ways. I think they threw it away or put it in a pile of rubbish. ... Then later possibly in Half-blood Prince or Deathly Hallows, remembered the locket from Sirius's house.

Voldemort’s backstory is almost entirely glossed over in the movies. They never show that the reason no one can keep the defense against the dark arts position for more than a year is because Voldemort applied for the position and was turned down so he put a curse on it. They don’t give Harry’s goodbye to the Dursleys in book 7 any justice at all. They also completely skip over the fact that Sirius got into Gryffindor Tower in book 3 and attacked Ron’s bed instead of Harry’s which would have been a crazy clue for the audience to realize when they revealed everything in the shrieking shack. Harry’s eyes are green in the books, not blue. They actually tried to get Radcliffe to wear green contacts to make it faithful to the books but they bothered him so thats why they aren’t green in the movies. In the order of the Phoenix book, Cho doesn’t rat out the group to Umbridge about the DA. Cho’s friend Marietta does, who actually isn’t in the movie at all. When she does the word sneak in written out in pimples on her face because Hermione cursed that paper everyone signed when they joined. In the battle of the seven potters in book 7 it’s never revealed that it was Snape that used a Confundus charm on Mundungus Fletcher to get Mundungus to give the order the idea about using the 7 Potters to confuse the death eaters. Dumbledore gave Snape the idea to do it. Snape then gave Voldemort the correct date they were going to move Harry to further gain Voldemort’s trust. Snape was actually the one who cursed George Weasley’s ear but he was aiming for a death eater and missed. In book 7 it’s also revealed that Dumbledore was the one who told Snape to keep an eye on Quirrell in book 1. In the half blood prince, Draco has Madam Rosmerta under the imperius curse. That’s how Katie Bell ended up with the cursed necklace and how the poisoned wine got into the castle.
@threecats8219
@threecats8219 2 жыл бұрын
That's a good list. 😄 In The order of the Phoenix book, they used coins to send messages about Dumbledore's Army meetings. Text appeared on the sides of the coins telling them meeting times. Draco also used that method I think when he was organising getting death eaters into the castle.

Voldy's death was (in my opinion) an absolutely tragic misinterpretation in the movie. The entire point of his manner of death in the book was the confirmation of his worst fear, that he was simply human like everyone else. So much more could be said. I think 2 most important points that were missed in the movies 1. Why the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher's position is cursed - Because Voldemort applied for it, didn't get it. 2. Neville could have been the Chosen One as he also fulfilled the Prophecy to the T, but it was Voldemort who selected Harry, because he was Half-Blood, attacked him and hence, he became the chosen one. Else, the entire series could have been "Neville Longbottom and....."

To be fair, it was never mentioned in the Movies, that the DADA Position is cursed at all. And that the teachers changing because something happens "suddenly" to them by the end of the Year is a bit TO eye-catching, people could say "shit happens", despite this seems to be only appear on the DADA position. the thing with Neville and the chosen one is so small, that even his Parents of their fate could be cut from the Movies, but i guess, they needed to deliver a reason for Belatrix to be cruel to him and reason Nevilles anger.

I would say that the BIGGEST difference between the books and the movies, and also the biggest failings of the movies is the way that Voldemort died. In the book, Voldemort died in front of a crowd of people, whereas in the movies only Harry witnessed his death. By having Voldemort die in front of a lot of witnesses, J.K. made sure that EVERYONE knew that Voldemort was really, really dead, whereas if only Harry witnessed it, then a lot of the Death Eaters would believe for some time that Voldemort had escaped death once again, and continue to put up resistance and making trouble. After all, everyone had believed that Voldemort was dead once before, but he had come back to life, so who is to say that he couldn't do it again?

My biggest problem with that whole fight was that Voldemort and Harry are literally flying around the school casting spells at each other back and forth continuously, where as is the books its just them circling each other in front of the crowd while Harry is talking and then one spell each. It was the culmination of a whole lot of build up and history and twists and it was supposed to end with just the two spells, but of course they just had to go for a big action scene instead of the nice neat package JK Rowling had written.

A Dutch film reviewer always claimed "The Prisoner of Azkaban" was the movie that didn't want you to read the books, but stood out as a film on its own, more than any of the others. Shows how seriously I gotta take him, as POA is the movie that got me to answer most questions from people who only saw the movies and did not read the books. For starters how did Lupin know the parchment insulting Snape was in fact a magic map? The book answers that, the movie does not, while it is a pretty important plot twist, as that map is basically something James left his son (although it went via Filch and Fred & George first). Who are Mooney, Wormtail, Padfood and Prongs? Never explained in the movie, but clearly in movie #5 Harry mysteriously knows as he called Sirius "Padfood" when trying to give Snape a secret message Umbridge was not allowed to understand. The entire reason behind the Shrieking Shack and the Whomping Willow was never explained at all in the movies and of course also the reason why James, Sirius and Peter were Animagi. And so we can go on for awhile. A few things I really missed in the movies in general were these: - At the Quidditch championship we never see the game itself at all. - Why oh why did Fred and George's magical swamp, created to mock Umbridge, not make it to the films? ("Give her Hell for us, Peeves!!!") - Meeting Gilderoy Lockheart while he is still suffering from Amnesia, but despite all that still as full of himself as ever and trying to give the "heroes" his autograph. - Winky - The suffering of Voldemort's mother, as she's actually a pretty tragic person - The background story of Dumbledore's sister Ariana, while it was so important in understand why Dumbledore was the way he was. - Molly's boggart - Hermione's "SNEAK" curse I didn't miss Herione's "S.P.E.W" though. That part of the books only annoyed me. The Dutch abbreviation shows what I think of it. "S.H.I.T" (Stichting Huiself voor Inburgering en Tolerantie). Another big difference is, is that Ron never went to the Dark Forest in the Philosopher Stone. It was Neville who got punished in the novels in stead, as he was caught by McGonagal when he was trying to warn Harry and Hermione. Well there was one thing that got me confused in the books, because books cannot carry over emotions as well as movies can. If you watch well when Snape kills Dumbledore, you can hear in his voice and see on his face that he's doing something he doesn't want to do. Makes clear what a great actor Alan Rickman was, of course. I was however very amused to see how Mad-Eye Moody (the impostor that is) transformed Draco Malfoy into a ferret. I was afraid that part of the book wouldn't make it into the movie, but it did. ("Alastor! We neverrr use transfiguration as a punishment. I'm sure Dumbledore has told you that." -- "He might have mentioned it").

Leaving out that Harry's DAD and Sirius and Lupin and Wormtail made the map is so strange, it would have taken one line to have a satisfying sort of plot-twist reveal. Such as when Harry meets with Lupin in his office at the end. The other one is when Harry kicks Lupin out and says the line "Parents shouldn't leave their kids...unless they've got to." The movies focus 100% on the pressure of this future battle with this snakey monster Voldemort and has none of the interwebbing relationships of the past and Harry's emotional resilience (and temper - wish we could've seen more Sassy Harry, like the Snape classroom scene in HPB).

Yeah, Harry's statement was indeed very important to his own personality. Harry, most of all other characters in the book, knows the damage you can experience when you're parents are not there for you as a kid.

Yeah. Not to mention the fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort. In the movies, Dumbledore nearly lost. But in the books, he literally wiped the floor with Voldemort. In the books, the fight was amazing. Stunning and thrilling at the same time. It showed how amazing magic can be once you fully master it. Bringing statues to live and apparating to dodge the killing curse while casting powerful spells. It showed just how powerful Dumbledore was. The reason he was feared by Voldemort. That fight gave us hope. In the movies however... It kinda felt... forced. Dont get me wrong, it was still impressive, but not even nearly as much as it was in the books. Not to mention the scene where Fawkes sacrifices himself to save Dumbledore.

I want a Netflix Harry Potter series SO BADLY, you have no idea!! I just... every single time I watch the movies I'm like "... it looks pretty, but the books are so RICH with intricate detail and character development, and this does not do them justice!" I was listening to Prisoner of Azkaban on audiobook again recently, and just started dreaming about how amazing it would be to have an entire hour long episode dedicated solely to the Shrieking Shack scenes. And that's just one example! There's so many moments that could be so much more brilliantly done if there was a lot more room for the scripts to take their time.

Navel was as much the Chosen 1 as Harry, it all came down to who Voldemort (who didn't know the last part of the prophecy saying he'd chose who he'd share his power with) tried to kill. Navelle's problem was his emasculating grandma. Harry had his issues but his family shunned him rather than play down his magical abilities. By his 3rd Year, he was as advanced as Harry though they specialized in different feilds. The movies didn't show his progression very well but at least they showed him being as vital as Harry to Voldemort's defeat.

Just started reading the Harry Potter books about a month ago (I'm on Goblet of Fire now) and I must say, I LOVE the books, especially how they are written. So many times fantasy authors way over explain every little detail to the point where it seems like they are just trying to add filler to make their books larger than they need to be (Any fantasy author with the middle name R.R. ). J.K. Rowling however, manages to fit so much detail with so few words, I find it incredible. She never spends more than 1-2 small paragraphs describing any one piece of detail, and she only takes that long if it's essential to the overall plot. I never feel like I don't know what Hogwarts looks like, or how Harry is feeling after a particular moment. One moment from the books where this is most evident is when Harry caught the Golden Snitch to win the Quidditch Cup for Gryffindor, and the overwhelming joy he felt could be summed up in two sentences (This isn't an exact quote), "Harry wished that a Dementor would attack him now. At that moment, he felt like he could conjure the worlds greatest Patronus." Because we know that Dementors can suck all the happiness out of a person and the only real way to defeat them is with a Patronus, which is a manifestation of pure happiness with no sadness for the Dementor to feed on, and that in order to conjure a Patronus, you need an overwhelmingly happy moment from your life to focus on, we understand full well that this is, far and away, the happiest moment in Harry Potter's life. All that, from just two sentences, and we can feel the same happiness that Harry felt at that moment.

Uhm, just one thing: Pigwidgeon was a present from Sirius to say soory for trying to kill his pet murderer. And the list goes on: Book: Ludo Bagman has a whole story-arch with the Weasley twins who bet with Ludo at the World Championship, win, he pays them off with Leprechaun money, they try getting the money from him as they bet all their savings and need the money to open up their shop. Ludo functions as a decoy bad guy for some time before being revealed that he's highly endebted with the goblins and can't pay them, leaving a pissed-off set of Weasley twins. Movie: Who's Ludo Bagman? Book: Harry get's 1000 Galleons of price money, tries getting rid of it by giving it to Cedric's father who declines the offer (!having no bad feelings with Harry which is important to mention when you want to explain your hatred for "the lost child") and then gives the money to the twins, making the promise they'll invest it into their shop and also buy Ron a set of dressing robes, stating that they're going to need a laugh now that Voldemort's back. Movies: none of that happens. Book: Padma and Parvati are in different houses. Movie: they swarm around together in the Gryffindor common room and breath "hi harry" every time they pass him. Book: Hermione's teeth get hit by a charm from Malfoy, making them grow uncontrollably and Madam Pomfrey then shrinks them to be normal sized. Before that Hermione had ginourmous front teeth. Movie: None of that happens Book: Both Durmstrang and Beauxbatons are mixed gender schools Movie: Screw that, One's for girls, the other one for boys! Book: Hermione wears dressing robes from a floaty, shimmery periwinkle blue material and Harry sees her immediately Movie: Hermione wears a pink monstrosity and Harry has only eyes for Cho. Book: Everyone's wearing dressing robes to the yule ball Movie: Men wear robes, the women wear dresses, The patils wear Saris and Cho wears sothing chinese-y. Book: Hermione does not eat at the beginning to the term banquet as Nick tells her about the elves, she founds SPEW, later takes up a habit of knitting to free the house elves resulting in Dobby being the only one willing to clean the Gryffindor common room. Winky becomes an alcoholic, we learn that house elves can get drunk on butter beer. Hogwarts house elves wear a towel as a toga as uniform. Dobby equipps Harry with the Gillyweed. Hogwarts House elves later fight in the battle of Hogwarts being led on by Kreacher. Movie: not even sure if SPEW even exists. Book: Harry, did you put your name in the Goblet of fire, he asked calmly. Movie: HARREY! [pushes someone out of the way] DIDYAPUTYA [shakes him furiously] NAMEINDEHGOBLETOFFIYAH!? [looks murderous] Book: Blast ended Skrewts Movie: No Blast ended Skrewts Book: Niffler, because Hagrid wants to prove he's as good of a teacher as Professor Grubbly-Planck Movie: No Professor Grubbly- Planck, no unicorn-lessons, no f-ing Nifflers! Book: Veelas at the World Cup, Fleur is being revealed to have Veela ancestry Movie: What are Veelas even? Book: Black sends Harry letters while using tropical birds, he later moves to Hogsmeade and Harry gets him a loaf of bread, chicken wings and several bottles of pumpkin juice from the kitchens. Movie: No thanks. Not doing that. A fireplace cameo should be enough. Book: Hagrid and Madame Maxime are exactly the same height. Movie: Madame Maxime is quite a bit taller then him. And I could go on for quite some time with this. Even the thing with the firebolt is wrong.

In the book they also took turns wearing the Horcrux, it wasen´t just Ron who had to go through that test! Harry actually had to wear TWO Horcruxes at once!!! One was always INSIDE of him, remember?...That was why he coulden´t preform a Patronus then... PLUS, when Ron has left them, they offcourse have to wear the Horcrux more often, hence feeling even more sad!

Also, in the movie Harry shows that he’s alive when he falls out of Hagrid’s arms. Book: he has the invisibility cloak and only reveals himself at the last minute.

YEah that never made sense in the book. seriously wearing the cloak during the battle was one of the dumbest things ever and completely impractical. how does the cloak stay on?

@@youtubeistryingtocensorme Well actually if you will read properly next time....you will see that under the cloak he was safe and was casting spells under it like helping but not properly fighting...his main motive was to kill voldmort and he didn't want to get hurt between the battle that was the reason he wore it!

I regret not reading the Harry Potter books when I was younger, but I decided to read the entire series recently & I must say..... It was brilliant. It took me 5 weeks to read all the books & I agree with the majority of fans that the books are lightyears away better than the films.

Aaron Martinez well a film doesn’t have the convenience of 1000s of pages of explanation. There is a lot done in books that is inside the characters heads. How does a movie show a characters thoughts? By having them say outloud what they feel? Just let the movies be the movies and the books be the books and stop comparing them

Ryan R I don't know anyone that has read the books and watched the movies and preferred the movies. The movies are great but if you really want to learn the story of Harry Potter you should read the books. It's a whole different experience.

I’ve read the books but only seen KZfaq clips of the movies. I’ll never watch them fully cuz I feel they screwed them up. Also hermione isn’t done right. She’s super irritating in the clips. It doesn’t seem like Harry is ever brooding like he constantly does in the books. That guy had the worst life. He was locked in a closet for years, barely fed, unloved....serious child abuse. The movies make it like he’s cool but he wasn’t. His only friends ever were hermione and Ron.

another small but important detail is they changed one word from young Tom's dialogue, when he says "i can make bad things happen to people who are mean to me" where in the book the word is "annoy" and not mean. It really makes all the difference because when you use "mean" it implies that Tom was bullied and/or picked on and that it may be self defense and we are not supposed to feel that kind of sympathy for him while using "annoy" shows how evil and vindictive he could be.

The biggest thing I disliked about the movies was the way they glossed over the character's faults, particularly sirius. In the books he was a broken person who often confused harry with his father and pushed him to do reckless things. As hermione put it, 'don't you think he's sort of... trying to live through you?'
@maddiesiegmund5623
@maddiesiegmund5623 7 жыл бұрын
In the Ministry Harry and Sirius are dueling together and Sirius says "Nice one, James!" (in the movie). It's true that it's very much a Harry thing that whoever liked his parents is fucking god to him.

That's literally the only mention of it though, and he is a completely different character in the films, much kinder and more gentle; in the books he's very gruff and snappish, he certainly never hugs harry or particularly imparts any great wisdom. For example the speech he gave at the end of POA never happened in the book. He still loves harry but he's very faulted.
@maddiesiegmund5623
@maddiesiegmund5623 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm not disagreeing with you. I believe Harry responds to Hermione's line "so what if he does?" His love for Sirius is so blind and he also doesn't know that kids aren't supposed to emotionally hold their parental figures together. So all of this really comes down to the flaws in the movies: they focus on Voldemort v Harry in a classic villain and hero story. Of course his godfather had to be sage Gary Oldman. It dumps all the real human narrative and the collective cast we love about the books, which intertwine with Harry and which causes him the most inner (and outer) conflict.

The one that stuck out the most to me was the end when Harry didn’t repair his wand with the elder wand that really peeved me
@threecats8219
@threecats8219 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the film also missed out explaining why Harry destroyed the Elder Wand. He said something like, it has caused enough trouble. It seemed a wise decision to destroy it too. Since if legend worked out harry had it, the Elder Wand would have been a target on Harry. While Harry could not have been killed in battle, he may have been killed for it like The original Peveral was. Killed in his sleep.

I still think they did that because they thought the audience (a good part of which were still in school themselves) wouldn't want to see someone taking exams and thereby be reminded of their own next exam next week^^ Plus the movie already was pretty long, they would have had to cast additional actors for roles that have no meaning to the story (the examiner, additional students...) and have extra coulisses built for very short scenes that don't drive the story. The book is pretty long and when you look at some movies today we are very lucky it didn't get split in two movies^^

I too have read the books and also watched the movies and I even feel that the books were better but we should also understand that the books were too long to add everything from them moreover the makers might have felt the need to bring some freshness to the story so they changed the subplot a bit but even then they remained true to the main story. We should never forget the brilliant performance of the actors in the movie.

I think the most important omission from the movies, is not just that voldy dies like a human, but that harry tells him that he is the wands owner, and that he has seen what voldy will become after death, unless he shows some remorse I understand the movie was meant to be more cinematic, but I think its important to show that harry understood a bit more than voldy did. also that voldy could not harm anyone after harry took his curse in the dark forest, that harry had given everyone protection like his mother did to him.
