Not sure if Invincible would qualify as an Anime but I would definitely put Omniman vs Guardians of the Globe as #1 ...until that point it Invincible gave the vibe of a corny tame coming of age Super Hero series... that fight at the end of episode one changed the entire tone of the series in a drastic left turn out of nowhere type way.

Mami's death didn't just set a precedent for the rest of the series, but the whole genre was turned on its head. There had been a few darker magical girl series' floating around but I definitely noticed that after the Mami incident, there were so many more being animated. Definitely an A+ genre twist moment

Why am i not surprised that the bombing scene from Barefoot Gen has made this list? It may be gruesome,depressing and violent, But it's still without a doubt the best interpretation of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima ever done in animation!

The man who created the atomic bombs is J. Robert Oppenheimer. He quoted himself as “Death. The destroyer of worlds”. And now despite ‘Fat Man & Little Boy’ with Dwight Schultz & Paul Newman, filmmaker Christopher Nolan is doing “Oppenheimer” this summer. Cillian Murphy is gonna be Oppenheimer while it’s an all star cast. Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr, Dane DeHaan, Casey Affleck, Gary Oldman, Kenneth Branagh, Rami Malek, Matthew Modine, Jason Clarke, Alex Wolff, Josh Peck, and more!

I am not watching that, not because of Gen, but the theme that Japan was the victim, but they're brutal ones and they started the problem via invasion and provoking the Americans. I just can't stand Japanese media showing themselves as the victims of war, as they spread violence against the countries they invaded. China, Korea, Philippines, Malaya, Indies, Burma, Indochina.

I would at least put the puppy's death in Elfen Lied as an honorable mention. That moment of violence, and from very young school kids, came out of nowhere and was one of if not the most disturbing moments in that anime. Despite not seeing the dog actually be hit or dead. The sounds alone are heartbreaking, you dont need to see it to know that puppy suffered horribly.

Kind of disappointed no moments from Made in Abyss showed up. It seemed like no one realized just how dark the series could become when it started airing and then when the violence starts ramping up I know lots of people who were extremely surprised by it.

Fortunately, for Amane, Kazuki kept her from eating the "deer meat" so at least she doesn't have add that trauma to the list of trauma she experienced through that whole ordeal. People keep bringing up the puppy scene in Elfen Lied, but for me the subway scene was much more gruesome and traumatic.

The most shocking scene I've ever seen was in higurashi no naku koro ni,when one character commits suicide by stabbing themselves to death with a kitchen knife held to a post and then driving their neck onto it!😱😱😱

for number 7 I know how much it would hurt. So I had to get a toenail removed, it took 5 shots of lidocaine into my big toe in order for them to remove it. Shots 1 and 2 were like getting glass stabbed into the toe the third and fourth shots hurt a bit less the fifth shot was when I finally didn't feel any pain.

That Madoka moment wasn't shocking to me as I was familiar with the staff behind the show. I would have put Vivid Strike on the list. The Nanoha franchise has had its darker moments, but seeing a grade schooler brutally beating her bullies was quite shocking.

Yep Brother my Brother by Blessed Union of Souls set that tone perfectly. Especially with the gang and Nurse Joy's reactions to what's happening. Ash: "Gasped shock of horror and sadness at the Pokémon and their clones going past battling into full on fight to the death" Nurse Joy: "If this keeps up this will go from a battle to a fight to the death." Misty: "That's a fight where no one wins." Brock: "Why can't Mewtwo understand that it doesn't matter clone or not Pokémon are still living beings."
