I’d like to mention Warp’s Edge. It’s a fantastic solo-only bag-builder that is not talked about that often. Definitely a worthy solo board game.

I never played board games solo until Marvel United X-Men and now i have like 16 plays under my belt. It's so good!

I've been playing the games solo since the beginning of this hobby two years ago. Recently, I found that my personal taste has been gradually leaning towards double-handed co-op games and solo only games. I'm looking forward to playing Final Girl as I went all-in and backed the game from the 2nd Kickstarter. So far, I've been enjoying my time with Gloom of Kilforth, Nemo's War, and This War of Mine.

Great video- and what an ending, lol! I’m just getting in to solo gaming and I’ve found TMB to be a blast! I also really like Lost Ruins of Arnak and Set a Watch. Next up on my list to try solo is Dune Imperium!

Most of my videos are solo boardgaming focused but I do play games with others once in a while. I’ve found I appreciate board games more when playing solo. One that I prefer solo only is Dwellings of Eldervale. I get to take my time deciding how to take my turns and not worry about other players and also the game progresses more quickly. As a mom, time is so precious and if it weren’t for solo friendly board games, I wouldn’t play half the board games I get to play. LOVE the mention of a "solo starter pack". :) I think the solo starter pack might also include Friday and Coffee Roaster!

My solo of choice is Final Girl (I need more of it and that will come as I pledged big time) and Under Falling Skies, I like Blitzgrieg, but I can see it fading behind my new best: Caper Europe and Red Flag Over Paris. For 4-5 we are still on: Caylius 1303, Cyclades, Blood Rage Lite (it's simple yet deep and engaging "mod").

The full campaign for Gloomhaven has been released on the Steam game and they announced a Jaws of the Lion expansion is in the works.

Hey gents, thanks for the list! I didn't even know the existence of 80% of these games and now I've got even more to consider. It's refreshing to see Gloomhaven still getting love, I still have a long way to go on that one. Hearing concepts like solo worker placement, or solo hidden movement made me do a double take.

A Quiet Year is extremely enjoyable. I picked up the PDF after reading an article about it online and played it with my daughters (13 & 15). It went over really well with both of them and we plan to play again soon. The social aspect of only being able to make a single statement or lead with a question and end with a statement made it really interesting. We always wanted to say more but we couldn't.

Not really looking for solo games, but this was an interesting and funny watch! ☺️

I need to do my Top 10 Solo games soon, as I have really been exploring more solo games. Under Falling Skies and Final Girl will definitely be on my list. Dinogenics is a game that not as many people have had access to that I think has a great solo mode (scenarios provide a puzzly challenge). I am not sure I would include Gloomhaven just because personally I prefer to play it with others, and I am lucky to have a wife who is as obsessed (if not more so) with Gloomhaven as me. I do enjoy quite a few multiplayer games with a solid solo mode (Wingspan, Calico, Everdell, Red Rising, etc). I am also waiting for my copy of Batman Dark Knight Returns to come in to see how I like it. Great video guys!

Mage Knight, This War of mine, Descent Legends of the Dark and KDM are my favoured solo games.

I feel like a solid solo player at heart, even though I also love playing with other players whenever I can get the opportunity to. But being able to experience a game on your own is so convenient when no one's around.

Personally I usually don't like solo board gaming, but there is this one game, that I actually not only love at all player counts from 1 to 6, but it's also my favorite game at all of those player counts: Spirit Island. :)

Was surprised to see Dwellings of Eldervale make the list, but happy to see it. It's in my top 5 of all time. Marvel Champions is definitely my #1 solo game although I prefer it at 2 player.

I recently got Under Falling Skies and it's so good. I loved how the game played when I first started, but then I felt like the box doesn't come with that much for the price and I didn't expect much from the campaign but it's suprisingly good! Only 3 cities to defend? Nah, the campaign just keeps on giving. Every time I got to the next chapter I felt like a little child on a christmas eve, every chapter has cities, special scenarios, characters and some extra stuff you pop out of the board like numbered tokens for example. The campaign is replayable, the game difficulty is modular and you can even use scenario stuff in a standalone round. Just don't worry that it will be a heavily luck driven game, the dice that you roll are like a puzzle waiting to be solved and it's your placement of those dice and knowing when to sacrifice some HP that wins the game!

I know I’m late to this video…but A Feast for Odin is absolutely amazing solo. It’s my favorite solo game to date.

You will love Eila! It is a wonderful puzzle. Loquitur Gaming did an entire play through and I it was such an entertaining puzzle, but there were so many branches that is does have replay ability! The story and the chapters are so thematic. I hope you get to the game soon!

GI Joe the deck-building game is a great solo game that I wish more people would try out

I have both Gloomhaven's. I have not played Jaws of the Lion all the way through but its so fun. I picked up the full game on sale and put it on the shelf until ready to commit.

Marvel Champions is my go-to for solo play. It’s extremely fast to set up and tear down, and playing it solo does everything I love when I play multiplayer without the worst part of that game which is the downtime.

I got into board gaming for years ago but quickly found out that I couldn’t get any of my friends to play with me. So I started focusing on games that could be played solo. My progression went like this: Pandemic (two handed) Viticulture Robinson Crusoe Roll Player Terraforming Mars Spirit Island Detective: City of Angels Legendary Encounters: Alien Warp’s Edge Manhattan Project: Energy Empire Paladins of the West Kingdom Fleet: The Dice Game Space Base (variant on BGG forums) Leaving Earth I consider each of those to be EXCELLENT solo games with two exceptions: Legendary Encounters: Alien and Warp’s Edge. What each of those have in common is that they’re deck/bag builders. I think deck/bag builders, played solo, are missing something. Also, Pandemic is a GREAT introduction to modern board gaming… as a solo game. What I mean is this: played solo it frees a newbie from any feelings of inferiority relative to other players and the Pandemic core mechanism (the infection deck mechanics) are very very cool to witness for the first time.

I have played a lot of the games on that list and my favorites are Marvel champions, Maquis, and Final Girl! My other solo favorites are: Raiders of Scythia Architects of the West Kingdom with all Expansions. Everdell with Spirecrest expansion Set A Watch Tiny Zombies and Galaxies. Cartographers. Ruins of Arnak. Aeon’s End. Horrified. The Bloody Inn. Star Realms Frontier 😁

Rolling realms and final girl are definitely on my list. There's also this game called Cartaventura that I love playing (French game if I'm not mistaken)

I would have been supremely disappointed if you hadn’t mentioned Gloomhaven, it is such a solid solo experience while also being a ton of fun multiplayer. Thousand year old vampire is amazing as well, and I’ll be using the mechanic of memory storage and loss with my own LARP players as they make some character choices that require them to give up a piece of their characters’ psyches to become something new and different. I’ve also played it solo as other White Wolf-esque “Mystical Being: The Obscure Noun” type entities with their own paths of semi-eternal life or cycles of reincarnation and the game holds up really well. Really a good choice. I’d also recommend Mousehole Press, they’ve done some great solo contemplative narrative games with Artefact, Orbital, & Bucket of Bolts. You did a segment on one like them that I can’t quite remember the name of but was about Undead guarding a tomb which was in the same style and awesome. If you happen to remember the name, please remind me so I can find it again! Thank you for the list, I’m really curious to try them out.

Definetly would love a Ratcatcher reach Video, sadly I am not sure if I ever played it correctly, but I still had a lot of fun.

Solo games are, for me, kind of a variant of co-op games, the essence is player(s) vs. game, so again for me there is always an element of chance, because in order to prevent the game from being solvable you have to introduce chance (as an alternative against an unpredictable opponent).

I actually just got Jaws of the Lion for less than $18 on Amazon after applying various coupons. Looking forward to giving it a go at some point but I have a list of solo games I bought before it that I need to get to.

I'm not a regular solo player but for me, Millennium Blades, Marvel Legendary & Gaia Project are great experiences.... even solo.

I greatly appreciate this. I love boardgames but my wife not so much so I'm just growing a collection waiting for someone to play with me. Seeing a list of solo games is extremely helpful. Side note: I also greatly enjoy making a narrative around my actions and the results like you described doing early in the video

Ya had me till Gloomhaven! That game pretty much killed my desire to ever try solo gaming for almost 2 years x.x I'll need to look into some of the others though. I do have Under Falling Skies, it's a great little game.

Fantastic video. I really like Rise of Tribes and the expansion (Deluxe is even better for oozing theme). The game is fantastic solo, it really shines. The AI is absolutely brutal, but a great challenge, really really well made. Id rate the solo higher than the multiplayer game, of which the expansions actually broke the game. Got to love Tiny Epic Galaxies solo, great little simple challenge and great with groups as a quick breakout game. Still haven't played my Gloomhaven with extra scenarios and stickers. Given up on it, trying to sell, and will leap straight into frosthaven when it eventually comes. Trudvang legends is about to ship and Im over the moon. Completely underated, under the radar, and breaks the CMON mould big time. Very much in the gloomhaven category and I cant wait to play it Solo as priority, and then group also

I far prefer win or lose games over high score games. At the moment I am mainly playing Too Many Bones, Maquis, Under falling Skies, Coffee Roaster and Pandemic fall of Rome. Honourable mention to Tantrix - more a puzzle but so easy to get out for a few minutes

As much as I love Marvel Legends, and I am totally invested in it (custom wooden storage, every expansion and character, upgrades, promos) I think Lord of the Rings LCG might be a little better with its campaign system. Set A Watch, while insanely difficult at times, is also fun solo. I also think Horrified (both versions), Aeon's End, Alien: Fate of the Nostromo, Mansions of Madness, Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle Earth, Arkham Horror LCG, Arkham Horror, and Return to Dark Castle are all great solo as well.

Check out Crimson Scales. Which is a board game in the gloomhaven universe. They got permission from Isaac Childres to make it and they even got the same artist from gloomhaven to make the art for Crimson Scales.

I'm with you on Marvel Champions; I ended up selling off AH:TCG because I just wasn't really enjoying my plays.

Under Falling Skies is a top notch solo game. I love playing Pax Pamir (2nd edition) solo (against Wakhan). And thirdly Sleeping Gods is perfect for solo play. I had high hopes for Ratcatcher, but hasn't pulled me in as when I was during the campaign. Another game I liked going through alone was 7th Continent. But like Sleeping Gods they take up some more time. The Isle of Cats solo (playing against your sister) is a masterpiece of solo mode within a great multiplayer game. Finally a shoutout to Villagers playing against the Countess is a nice game as well. The one I just received, but still have to dive in is Nemo's War. Still waiting for Alba to arrive (which is a lovely solo adventure book game) and Robinson Crusoe Adventures book.

I like the explanation of the game gloomhaven by the gentleman on the left, sorry forgot his name. He also made me interested in finding games that are like black sonata where it is deductive; and the game has a mechanic where you dont feel like you cheated after finding out if your guess is correct. I bring this last part up because in the game clue, a favorite probably of everyone at one time or another, if you make a guess but read your notes wrong and you look at the answer, I tend to feel like the biggest idiot on planet earth if I read my notes wrong

I really like Dungeon Degenerates as a solo play. I love the punk vibes that Goblinko exudes so effortlessly. Also, I would really like to suggest Sickest Witch/Wizard and All Manor of Evil as good bourbon sipping solo games. Check them out. You may be surprised.

I think Gloomhaven is a little too big to really enjoy solo. There’s just so much micromanaging that it takes away from the experience. I don’t typically play solo games but I’ve recently gotten into Machina Arcana. Great horror dungeon crawl with lots of replay ability & a great organizer making setting up a breeze.

I'm really enjoying working through Sleeping Gods solo. I also play just about any co-op game solo from time to time and will often play competitive games solo in order to learn them before introducing the game to others. I find the big campaign games far easier to table solo than with a group - I've been gradually working my way through Imperial Assault and Descent 2nd edition solo using the apps. I do really need to try Arkham Horror LCG solo - I tried it before and couldn't complete the first scenario of the Dunwich cycle: I looked into it and the suggestions are you should two-hand solo, which I haven't got round to trying as yet. Same with The Lord of the Rings LCG.

I love books and board games and solo play. Mind blow at solo rpg book. Not a DND fan so didnt think rpg was for me. I think you've just shown me the door but need it bliwn open. Jesse you should try LOTR LCG. It is phenomenal. But we warned of the beast you are getting into. There is a lot to it. That being said, there is no better time than now with the revised core set and the per-constructed decks for Elves, Gondor, Rohan and Dwarves. However, if you don't enjoy the deck building part you probably want to stick with Marvel (whose deck building is far simpler). Marvel is also much quick/easier to play (I think). Both are great. If you enjoy one, I'd wager you'll enjoy the other. Try it :)

This has nothing to do anything but when I search for your channel on KZfaq with voice command I always get the result “Quaker lube”. That’s why you need to subscribe, folks. Also just got into KDM and it’s a great experience. I think I prefer it solo and it seems to be designed for this mode. I know you’ve made numerous videos about it, but just wondering where that would be on your ranking for solo games.

Nothing wrong with multiplayer solitaire, it is a popular structure these days

For arkham horror, you have to get an expansion for it to be fun. The core set is just a tutorial really and doesn't show why the game is great. I got the revised core, was pretty disappointed, but then got the dunwich legacy expansion (investigator + campaing) and loved it. Dunwich isn't even that popular of an expansion, path to carcosa is the more popular one. Check those out and if you like marvel I'm sure you'll like arkham horror!

Ratcatcher's rule book is truly terrible but there is an unofficial rule book on bgg that is much better. I still feel like the matinance from round to round is fiddly and more than I want in a solo game, even though the theme is great and it is very Emersive.

I ordered Ratcatcher 9 months ago, and still haven't received the copy. He answered one time on email but now stopped answering me, after another month of waiting. I will have to contact my bank to sort this out very soon. Really bad of them

Under Falling Skies is probably the best solo game that I have in my game collection. I use SOLO gaming to scratch that ever-present itch to play board games when I can't play with others, so I'm a fan of solo-mode variants of the multiplayer games I enjoy. Unbroken is OKAY for dedicated solo play, though not as good as I'd hoped. Some VERY honorable mentions for solo-mode variants: Dice Settlers, Fantastic Factories, Pax Pamir (2nd), Posthuman, Rise of Tribes, Scythe, Tapestry, Tiny Epic Galaxies, and Xia. Can't get enough of Xia right now!

Tomorrow I'll receive Marvel Champions and I think it's the last chance I'm giving to FFG LCGs. Don't get me wrong, I love the production, I love all the differnt expansions, and I love all the themes they choose (Marvel is probably my least favourite out of Arkham Horror and LOTR). But both LOTR and AH just, weren't it for me. I love deck-building, I love narrative experiences, but while some elements really make the narrative side shine, which is what I look for in these games, the gameplay aspect of it just bores me. I've given both those games so many tries, and bought expansions to play them more, but just didn't feel like "IT".

Haven't played the big box, plan on playing the smaller two player, only played video. Your list really bottoms out. And another long long description of Gloomhaven. You know why you don't play that monstrosity of a crate? Exactly.
