I include After the Ordeal" "Hairless Heart" with "Horizons" which I follow with Bach Cello Prelude and Bach bouree as bastardized by Jethro Tull a full swing fiasco in the B section I can never play the same way twice... fun to play drunk. I precede tears in heaven with Tarregas Lagrima, Mood for a Day by Yes and the Sage by ELP/ greg Lake make up my 1972 set of songs i wish I could have played back then but 50 years later I finaly got a grip on some of it. farcical songs like Classical Gas and Deutch Nepal along with original music from Shakespeare plays I wrote make for an entertaining set for me but and obscure and plodding set for an audience to wade through... sorry.

@@fletchie78 i think that is an easier and cheaper guitar to start off with for begginers, but certainly much harder to master than any other guitar, and it is an insult to call it just a starter guitar
@flavoredwallpaper
@flavoredwallpaper Жыл бұрын
@@fletchie78 I don't think it's insulting. The reality is that the electric guitar is more popular, and there's no better way to learn the guitar than starting off with a classical. Why? Because they're far less forgiving. Any mistake is obvious, so it forces perfection. You can screw up on an electric and it won't be as obvious, because of the effects and amplification. So if your plan is to play electric, it really is a great starter guitar. Of course, it's also a beautiful instrument to plan in its own right. I play classical because I love the classical pieces by composers like Barrios. But electric is great too and there's nothing wrong with playing and listening to that kind of music. As for which is "harder," it's a kind of dumb debate. Once you reach the highest levels of guitar playing, it's all virtuistic, regardless of the instrument.

I saw Pink Floyd perform The Wall in 1980, it was david who played it...on the top of the wall! He changed how he played it from the way he first recorded it because he throws in an Eminor towards the end which makes more sense and once I heard it I can't play it any other way.

Live, yes, but Dave said in the studio they got some classical guitarist in (can’t just recall his name - didn’t recognise it at the time), and I’m sure he was relaying this in the interview because someone (maybe Roger!) claimed Roger had played it and Dave just couldn’t stop laughing at the thought of it (they weren’t on the best of terms at the time!), and he even went onto say that he even had to overdub most of Roger’s bass, but that could’ve just been sour grapes. I’m sure if Dave had played it in the studio he wouldn’t have said otherwise - it’s just such a simple but beautiful piece. It’s actually what first sparked my interest in playing classical guitar. Where and in what manner did he throw in the Em?

These are far from being top 10 I was expecting Asturias, La Catedral, Recuerdos de la Alhambra, El Colibri, Para Natalia, Canarios, maybe even Romance as a more beginner tune. THOSE are classical guitar pieces, look any title up and it'll give you a good idea how this instrument is supposed to be played.

There is an actual form of the guitar that is called a classical guitar. You can play whatever the hell kind of music you want on it but the instrument itself is a classical guitar. This distinguishes it, for instance, from a flamenco guitar. Different construction. Different woods. Slightly different sound. There are even guitars that are made in such a way that they can serve for both styles of music. But, they’re absolutely, positively, unequivocably and the refutably is such a thing as a classical guitar. Because it is one of the great instruments, my preferred, as a matter of fact with 30 years under my fingers on it, it is actually capable of lending it’s beautiful voice to many different genres of music whether classical or otherwise. My handmade concert model in Engleman spruce in Indian Rosewood with its Ebony fretboard and it’s ivory nut and saddle sounds quite beautiful when I play Despacito on it. I will even go so far as to say that it suffers no adverse effects from the experience. Julia Florida still sounds great when I play it on it right on the heels of Despacito. It even weathers my own rendition of ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone complete with my singing without so much as a whimper.

I’ve been really frustrated by the comments. I think the thing people don’t understand is that Classical guitar (the style of playing, techniques, the specific guitars and the music itself) is something you have to study, putting years of your life into it. Playing these songs are fun and what not but the blood sweat and tears put into playing something like Brouwer or lobbos or Albeniz is something that cannot be compared. It’s so taxing yet so rewarding and using the term classical when it’s finger style (on an acoustic guitar ) defaces it and makes it seem like we could do it in a few days maybe a week. More like a hobby (speaking as a serious classical guitarist)

Hi Paul, it was indeed in the basement. 😔 I took it to the lutier in Amsterdam, La guitarra buena, and the professor took care of it. I bought it back in 1990 or so, a Alhambra classical guitar. Played it for several years, started out on Stratocasters afterwards and hardly played it anymore. I ordered a Cordoba C5 recently, and concentrate more on classical playing now. Thanks for the inspiration, and your generosity in sharing your knowledge and ideas! 👍

Paul is a great guitarist, of course. He needs to revisit the meaning of “classical guitar” though. Just because a guitar has nylon strings on it, it does not mean that it is a classical guitar. Also, just because one plays a fingerstyle song on a guitar fitted with nylon strings, it does not mean that is a classical guitar piece. The only true “classical guitar piece” in this video is Bach’s Bourree, and he placed that at No2? If played correctly, that piece would be harder than every song in this video. And then there is a ukulele piece? OK, that one hurt. Nothing against the instrument, but strumming on a ukulele does not mean you are playing a “classical guitar piece.” I saw Paul’s disclaimer about the video, and yet he still kept the title and the thumbnail. In all fairness, this video should be titled “The Top Ten Fingerstyle Easy Pieces” instead. That would be more accurate. I think Paul is a great guitarist , of course. I also think this video has nothing to do with classical guitar and classical music in general. Great channel! Cheers.

@@PaulDavids I meant no disrespect in my post. The title of your video, as well as the thumbnail, are simply misleading or at least inaccurate. Except for the Bourée, none of the pieces in your video were written for the Classical Guitar specifically. The Bourée itself was originally written for the Baroque Lute and only later transcribed for the Classical Guitar. That piece can be called a Classical Guitar piece actually, because it is part of Classical Guitar repertoire. Anyhow ... not all nylon-string guitars are Classical Guitars and not all fingerstyle pieces are Classical Guitar pieces. And oh, the Classical Guitar is not “a starting guitar”. It is true that many start on a classical to avoid fingertip discomfort, but some start on an electric for similar reasons ... that doesn’t make the Electric Guitar a starter instrument. It kind of belittles the instrument when you put it that way. Perhaps you should try and play a couple of Bach fugues on the Classical Guitar and discover that it is actually not a starter instrument 😎 And the ukulele piece ... I had to laugh at that. I love the ukulele and I play the ukulele, but strumming some chords on a uke does not qualify that music as Classical Guitar music, just because the instrument is fitted with four nylon strings. I do enjoy watching your channel. I just think this video is a miss, unless you change the title and the thumbnail. Personal opinion. All the best to you and yours.

How long have you been playing classical? We are the only group of guitar is to get that damn anal about the subject. Lol. It is that same anal characteristic we exhibit so often and for which we are so famous that compels me to correct you. Owed to joy is also a classical piece. It may not have been written for the instrument originally but, then again, neither was the Bach piece so, it counts. Anyway, I actually like the video. It’s nice to see my favorite version of the instrument showcased this way by a player of pop music. It’s nice to use my guitar for things other than Barrios, Tarrega, Brouwer and Rodrigo sometimes. Then again, I grew up with Spanish language music. This instrument features very heavily in all it’s nylon strung forms in those styles of music.
