She is definitely street smart which has saved the gang hundreds of times throughout the seasons.

I love how Penny calls each of the gang “sweetie” or “honey” She gives off a motherly/older sister vibe

Penny becoming a pharmaceuticals rep was the best part of her arc. Despite how she got the job and her mixed feelings for it, she was shown to be shockingly competent at it, takes it completely seriously, most importantly it turned out to be her true calling.

Sheldon and Penny's BFF relationship is one of the best things of the whole show. Always brought a smile to my face.

I love how Penny slowly becomes more familiar with geeky pop culture topics. Even though she's not traditionally book smart, she still demonstrates great people skills and emotional intelligence, similar to Sheldon's twin, Missy.

Penny got Leonard out of his shell, Leonard got Penny out of her misery of being a failure at her profession. They both look after Sheldon, Sheldon saved their relationship and marriage. Penny got Howard her wife leading to Bernadette being a part of their circle and getting Penny a job later. Penny cures Raj, Raj helps Howard and Bernie with their marriage and kids. Being friends with Penny helps Amy get closer to Sheldon and they win a Nobel. All the characters complement each other and Penny was the start of the Bing Bang in their lives.

Penny is a lot smarter than she's letting on and that's why we love her. Also, I think that Missy said it best about Sheldon. "He's both really smart and really dumb at the same time!"

Penny really brought the guys out of their shells, and they brought out her intelligence.

Watching Your video, I remembered one VERY overlooked moment: When *PENNY MADE SHELDON APOLOGIZE, BY BRINGING IN MS COOPER!* 🙌 😂

For me, one of Penny's best "smart moments" was when she was Sheldon's teammate during the scavenger hunt! She figured out the puzzle long before he did and in the geology lab, where the blue was "leave no stone unturned" she found the next four under a Rolling Stones posted hanging on the door 💔💖💖

I always thought that Howard's card trick was a conspiracy between the others to frustrate Sheldon. i. e. There was no trick, everyone just agreed that Howard got it right everytime and Penny's ah ha moment of how the trick was done and Howard's agreement was the topping on the prank cake, and no one was ever going to tell Sheldon.

I don't know if this is an example of Penny being smart but she showed how important she was going to become to the group in season 1 when she got back Sheldon's stuff. But... she was able to get back Sheldon's stuff after the guys failed.

It was visible from the first episodes that Penny is intelligent. She's not cultured and educated, but she's definitely smart. I always thought that this series was the meeting of several types of intelligence, those who had the chance to cultivate this intelligence and those who did not have this possibility. Each being, at the start, except Sheldon, of course, of equivalent intelligence.

This is the first time ever that I’ve understood what Penny said Leonard and Amy as she’s walking away doing that giggling thing. I always heard cheese not sheets.😂

My sister and I are like them. I’m all smart and academic and she has the street smarts of a Tom Cat. We survived homelessness and many other tragedies due to her street smarts. My book smarts helped in the long run being able to get a really good job, but her smarts are something I have mad respect for and I think are much more important in life. I’m an introvert and she can make friends with a fence post! She has beauty, wit, personality, and resilience. Sounds like Penny to me. I never once thought penny was stupid. I saw exactly what she was going to be bringing to the table.

I actually think Penny's friendship with them and her version of intelligence is the whole point of the show. Big Bang Theory is primarily evolution. They start off with the stereotypical nerds/geeks who learns to shed the socially awkwardness - with Sheldon's biggest character development - simply by befriending a very street smart, social, and beautiful woman, the stereotpical of woman all stereotypical nerds wanted. Penny rounds them out by showing the importance of emotional intelligence and street smarts and in turn, they introduce her into a world she never thought she'd be interested in. Everyone evolves in this show.

Penny was never stupid. Her Intelligence is probably average… But her Wisdom is probably a 16 or better. Contrast that to the guys whose Intelligence is probably between a 16 (Howard) and 20 (Sheldon), but whose Wisdom scores are probably all below 10.

There is also this one scene when Raj is in risk of getting deported because his job met a dead end and Penny simply states "Why doesn't he just get another job?" Practical, smart, fast thinking and no one else came up with that idea

How about when Penny taught Howard how to fish because neither Leonard or Raj knew how?

Penny is a friend that I never had. Helpful, caring and fun loving personal and ubiquity of her influence has ingrained in everyone's around her.

I love the part where they all thought during the scavenger hunt she would be a liability but instead proceeded to solve more than half of the puzzles before everyone. The worst part is they never mentioned it and kept saying she was a liability.

Penny and Leonard are my favorite characters and my favorite couple in this show.

The world overvalues mental intelligence, when the world was built on emotional intelligence. Penny isn't brain smart (like the guys), but she is heart smart, which the boys ALWAYS undermine and dismiss because they're clearly so much more brilliant. She's also amazing at her pharm job which is not easy, knowing every single drug, when to take it, how to take it, what's better, what's worse, symptoms, doses, and all that?? That's literally part of a pharmacists' job! But because she's not a doctor she is view as the pretty dumb one. They don't hide it either. They give Howard a hard time for it all the time. I never understood the Penny hate train when Priya repeatedly cheated on him, Joyce used him for government information, Stephanie was obsessed and stalkerish, and Leslie just wanted him to have a baby. Penny at least was honest with her emotions and her feelings towards Leonard. She never hid things and when she did it didn't take her long to confess. Penny is probably the strongest characters and is the reason for EVERY DEVELOPMENT in the show. Bernie and Howard? Penny. Sheldon adopting more human-like characteristics? Penny. Amy's character development? Penny. Loenard's leaps and bounds of development? Penny! Hating pretty women who love having sex and being a young 20-something, who transform into a happily married woman is not the edgy take you think it is. (I clearly have a lot of emotions about this lol)

I think in some cases the issue with being highly intelligent is often these people overthink and ignore simple solutions to their embarrassment..... The two that I remember are Leonard and Sheldon standing outside that security door trying to figure out how to get in when the cookie sellers walked up and pushed every button.,,,,And the second one was the ER receptionist when Howard has the robotic arm on his d*ck....and she pushes the reset on the computer. Of course, intelligent people would probably think of these things in real life. However, these skits do highlight that sometimes intelligent people can be too clever for their own good. Penny's role in the series is that knowing her turned all the other people in the group into better adjusted people....maybe not Bernadette.....Penny learned to stop hanging around with dropkicks.....her new friends were decent, genuine people who showed her the path to more rewarding relationships in her personal life.... and a better / more rewarding career.
