No mention of All I Need is the Girl, a beautiful song and dance number from Gypsy, sung completely by a minor character whom Louise (Gypsy) has a crush on, but later breaks her heart by running away with Louise's younger sister, June.

I always wondered about this song and number and how it fits in the show and movies..it stops the storytelling, and takes about 10 minutes to explore.. And I never realized it was this character that Louise runs off with.. It's pleasant enough, it just goes on forever.. I always go for a snack when it comes on..Seen it so many times..Just recently with Bette Midler.. That version is so underrated..

Louise isn't the one that Tulsa runs away with, he runs away with her sister June.. I've seen the version you mentioned, it's my favorite version of the musical also. It might seem out of place in the movie because he's telling Louise about an audition that he went for behind Rose's (Bette Midler) back, but it's the dance that he and Louise perform tells another story.. It tells us that she has a secret crush on him, especially when they come together towards the end of the number. That's what links it to the story.

@@brianlipensky1722 🤣.. I think I skipped that scene so many times, I never got its point.. It just goes on forever, and in the Natalie Wood version, you never really get the nuance of the crush.. But you do in the Midler Version..

I know, the Natalie Woods version is altered and little bit more than the Bette Midler version. She was once one of my celebrity clients, and I asked her about it.. She said that the director of the film was also the director of the late 1980s revival of the Broadway version, and he insisted on making it similar to his vision of the musical.

I watched Chicago at the Starlight Theater, an outside, open air venue. It was raining and we were wet and miserable. There was lighting and thunder when the lawyer made his appeal to the jury. Then he sang the line “as god is my witness, if my client is not innocent may god strike me dead.” With perfect stage timing there cam a clap of lightning nearby which made everything look like a photo negative. There was a lengthy pause, the actor laughed nervously, and the show went on.

I think Phyllis in "Follies" is overall underappeciated because "The Story of Lucy and Jessie" is a showstopper that is overlooked followed by "Loosing My Mind" in the script. Both her solos are powerful both in music and meaning.

Fiddler on the Roof is perfect musical story telling from start to finish, but Do You Love Me? has always been one of my favorites, as it is the realization between a middle aged couple that they have loved each other for years without realizing it. It is beautiful.

"To Each His Dulcinea" from Man of La Mancha and "Love is Only Love" which was written for Mame but cut, but did show up in the movie version of Hello, Dolly!

No mention of Dulcinea from Man of LaMancha? Impossible Dream may get the lions share of the attention, but the soulful Dulcinea deserves more attention.

While Dulcinea is lovely, my favorite underappreciated song from a classic show is "To Each His Dulcinea", also from Man of La Mancha. There are so many lovely melodies from that show, but "To Each..." is heartbreaking, forgiving and hopeful all at the same time.

"Kismet" is my favorite musical and it's absolutely forgotten. "And This Is my Beloved" (among many others) is amazing!

Curious why there are no Jerry Herman songs are listed here? Pretty sure the only songs that are known (barely) from this composer are "I Am What I Am", "Hello Dolly", "Put On Your Sunday Clothes" and "Mame". He has a lot of beautiful songs that are underappreciated by even the Broadway aficionados.

How is, perhaps, the most familiar song from the musical an "underappreciated" song? (I realize an argument can be made that "Home" is more familiar but when you've got the powerhouse dynamic duo of Diana Ross and Michael Jackson performing "Ease" in the film version, leading to a Top 20 R&B hit--and just missing the Top 40 on the pop chart--it may be rightly considered the more familiar of the two.) I think the purpose of this video was to feature songs that get overshadowed by other songs in the same musical rather than songs from musicals which may be, as a whole, underappreciated.

@@josephwest124 I know it's the most familiar, but honestly I feel like as far as Wizard of Oz broadways go The Wiz in general has been largely overshadowed by Wicked, and I **hate** Wicked! I never saw either show in person, but my Mom and my little sister used to play the soundtrack in the car a lot when I was growing up, and I instantly loathed it. To me, its signature song Defying Gravity was the Let It Go of 2000's broadway, an overplayed, overrated mess that only gets worse with every repeat. The Wiz meanwhile has much better music IMO, and I wish it got more love now than Wicked.

Ease On Down The Road from The Wiz, Hopelessly Devoted To You(Grease), Somewhere(West Side Story), Old Deuteronomy(Cats), Electricity(Billy Elliot: The Music), You're In The Band(School Of Rock(musical), Endless Night(The Lion King musical), Who I'D Be(Shrek: The Musical), Sunrise Sunset(Fiddler On The Roof), The Music and The Mirror(A Chorus Line), and other underrated Broadway songs should've been on the list. 🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎟️🎟️🎙️🎭📽️🎥🎥🎬🗽

We both reached for the gun is my favorite song from Chicago. Second one is All I care about. Yeah I love songs which are Billy's part. It's not because of him. It's just a coincidence.
